It varies by dog and breed, but Dramamine could help if your vet approves it. One of our dogs always got carsick, our vet recommended Dramamine and told us what dosage to use, and life seriously improved on road trips!

Oo, okay definitely gonna ask our vet about that next time. He's a little stinker about ingesting anything suspicious, but maybe we could sneak it into some peanut butter.

Fresh ginger helps dogs with nausea. Add a tsp with dinner the night prior, then with breakfast a few hours before the trip begins.

30 years ago (omg I'm so old!) I (a Canadian) went road tripping with my (Californian) aunt through Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. Her car didn't have a CD player, only a radio, and back then there were hours and hours of travel with nothing but static. So I sang the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack to keep us awake. I think there might have been some Aladdin thrown in there too, not to mention Christmas carols lol. Anything I could remember the words to, really. No puke was involved but my voice is so terrible I'm sure it was pretty close a few times for my aunt.

❤ lots of commitment to taking care of your pup! And having done the drive from CA to AZ SEVERAL times, I definitely recognized some of those stops just by the partial neon letters in the background 😂 And you have zero obligation to talk about when you were pregnant. It surprised me since I hadn't heard that mentioned in any other video. I hope that whatever happened, everyone is happy and healthy. ❤❤❤

As a fellow introvert I 💯 percent sympathize with not knowing anyone to care for a pet long term. Also as an introvert it does not actually bother me to say no I can't go because petz! 🙃 Also, as someone who suffers from motion sickness (not as driver, fortunately), I sympathize with the pupper. Such a trooper!

The Duchess Jacket Pattern by Ellie and Mac has an amazing swoosh factor AND pockets. Also has a step by step tutorial as well as pictures. My eight year old daughter and I are currently making scaled down versions of it (for her dolls) and it’s going pretty well. Might be an idea as it’s not a ‘boring’ coat/jacket and seems to be able to suit warmer fabrics as well as cooler fabrics (as I live in Queensland Australia, we don’t deal with snow and have only been dealing with 18ish degree Celsius temperatures during the day).

Oo see, you've reminded me that jackets can also have swoosh - something I frequently forget. Dramatic coats for the win!!

@@gettheetothestitcheryAlso, check out some swagger patterns. They’re really simple, like one back (on the fold), two fronts and two raglan sleeves, with a whole lot of swoosh! They work for both lighter and heavier fabrics (like thick wool for winter). Investors made a raincoat in this style, in two layers of wind poplin. Sadly it doesn’t keep the rain out anymore, but is still functional and comfy after at least ten years of nearly daily wear.

Thanks I just finished over there now $27 poorer but 4 new patterns to be printed and filed for later the jacket looks yummy and I like the wide neck space on it maybe this jacket will fit better on the back of me neck it’s the one area all coats and jackets press on the back of me neck because I have scoliosis.

As a european, the longest drive I ever did was middle of Poland to Croatia (as a passenger) which is like 1000 kilometers across two days (and then the same back) and I nearly went mad. I cannot comprehehend the american road trips and a willingness to drive for hours on end

Silly question, but why not fly him over to Dallas? I could see if you lived somewhere crazy, like we do, where is 6 hours to a Southwest airport. 😅 But since you're in the greater LA area, there should be at least a few places for cheap flights to DAL or DFW? It'd be easier on the pupper as well as you. ❤

Unfortunately, he's right over the weight limit for being allowed inside the plane, and I've heard too many horror stories to crate him in the lower part!

Our dog was from a dog shelter and roughly 6 to 9 month old. His previois owners left him at a gas station. He had severe anxiety when driving and my assumption was, that he feared to be left behind again. He was such a sneaky, happy and stubborn little dog and kept with us till the end ❤ All other dogs love driving in the car and were early introduced to it. They know some fun activities will lay behind that car trip 😊

2 thoughts. First is flying. Done in a day round trip.Way easier on both of you and saves wear and tear on the car, too. How often do pets fly? One of mine came from the Netherlands and has his own E.U. passport. Has been to Rome, Sofia, Kiev, Moscow etc. Has the stamps to prove it. Trained to travel for shows. Second, the breeders have people who transport pets across a state or the country. Since these are high value pets, the people who do this are pro's at it. Breeders do this for each other, too. Some vets can even handle the exams and paperwork so you can go out of the country. On dramamine or not.

Have you tried Calms Forte for your dog? My Vet recommended it for my very carsick prone cat. It worked and later we got a dog who was scared of thunder and fireworks. I crushed the tablet and mixed it with a T. Of plain yogurt.worked like a charm.

I've never had dogs, but always heard from dog owners that for road trips, you don't feed the dog before the road trip. Feed them after you reach the destination, so in your case you'd feed doggy when you're done driving for the day, instead of in the morning.

It is not his nerves most likely. It could be a inner ear issue. It could be he keeps looking around so rapidly trying to follow things he sees interesting to fast. He could be sensitive to movement that isn't done my him moving himself. Talk to your vet to see if there is anything that can make roadtrips easier for him. By your description of what he does it is the sensitivity to movement and possibly an inner ear issue. I once drove from the coast of Virginia to the coast of Califonia with a detour to Houston, Texas. I did it in 2.75 days. Yes, I was the sole driver. That was when I was in my mid 40s and that was bad enough. Cannot imagine doing a round trip vack then.

My daughter has the same breed dog. What happened to his tail? You're lucky they let dogs inside accommodation there. Lots of places won't even let you stay if the dog sleeps in the car overnight, even at campgrounds.
