I've invested a ridiculous amount of money in building my ramp truck, preparing my 1971 Dodge Demon 340, and full tanker loads of diesel fuel just to get here. But here I am - so on today's episode, let's line up these two classic styled drag racers and see what's what.
No matter what happens, I got a "free" timing light out of the deal...

Too bad it broke, but dumping like that with slicks will do that. I like to work that clutch like a "high stall"... keep the rpm's high and ride the clutch a little. You guys had a blast, congrats on making the trip!!!
@DeadDodgeGarage

I know it. I completely intended to ride the clutch out of the hole. I’m finding it really hard to focus on all of these things at once. I was primarily focused on light timing as that’s what I’ve had the biggest problem with. Well, I’ve gotten better on light timing… now I’ll focus on not breaking things 🤣

Welcome to 4loor slifting . LEAD THE SHIFTER GENTLY IN GEARS WITH YOUR FINGER TIPS, WHERE IT'S SUPOSED TO GO FOLLOWING THE "H" BUT THE FASTEST TIME YOU CAN. #1-When you pull from 1st to 2nd, using the "Slaping tiger paw fingers", not the "pulling the rope fist". Stiff arms are slower than a slaping fingers, ask Bruce Lee. Well, you can't ask him but you know what I mean. The pulling rope fist will not only be slower in Tousands of sec., it will break the top shifter plate and the linkage. 2-When you cross the 2nd and 3rd, it's a no brainer-fork bender when you push straight in V shape instead of H pathway. "200" prior to Pre-determine shifting RPM. Lets say 5300 from 5500 shifting, start pulling out the shifter from the gear so it's already ready to insert into the next gear at 5500 as planed. It wont pull out from the gear since the release bearing is still engaged at 5300 and in full rotation. But the shifter will already be in course for it. Were talking Tousands of miliseconds but it what it takes to win or loose sometime. Practice this technic as much as you can and doing it the Having fun way using the "foot on rock slipping". You will be able to run against the best. Shift-her faster! Not stronger. Your already very good as shown on the videos. Maybe the stress took over. You know when you feel you right foot shaking on the gas pedal. Lol Best content of the month for me, because you were having fun. 😊

Back in the 70s my buddies and I all raced 340 Dusters and Demons. Three of us had automatics. One had a stick. We were running high to mid 11 seconds running Super Stock, so yes, they were built up. My friend with the stick blew up his 8-3/4" after a dozen runs or so. Our automatics never broke anything. Not even one 727. He immediately installed a Dana 60 and never broke it. He would eventually be running 10.50's. He even had the original W2 heads. This was around 1973. Bottom line your slicks are working great. Try about a 6,000 rpm hole shot so you have a little slippage with the slicks. Less strain on your drivetrain. Good luck in the future.

Epic adventure Jamie. You are a winner accomplishing what was a large effort on your part under time constraints. You getting to hang with fellow you-tubers was the icing on the cake ,so to say.🙂🐏

was awesome getting to meet you at Mopars in the Park, sorry your Demon rejected the driveline in a similar fashion to what I did in Jezebel, I think the trick is not leave with a ton of RPM in a stick car. Great video as always man, even though the car broke, you still had fun and that is what matters.

That poor rear end took a major beat down I am surprised nothing broke on the first or second run you got to remember that your on a prepped track with slicks the only thing that will have any give is the drive line and you found your weak link. That's racing for you if you not breaking stuff your not trying hard enough.
