She’s a runner young man, go work on the truck and turn it into a Triple Nickel runner, that would be sweet. Give Clint a call at C&C, he is setting on a boat load of Ford body parts, he might actually have something to work with there. Enjoyed this and I am looking forward to this series, it gonna be interesting and fun, thanks youngster.

Oh, yeah. Great thing to have on the homestead, lots of options and opportunities. Both for using it, and for making it useable. Since I have a dump trailer, (sometimes you do good on "farm auctions") I can tell you that I often wish we'd bought an old single axle dump truck instead, even though I don't have need to make "content." Whatever you do, I bet we'll enjoy the content. Thanks and take care!

I'd sure look for a donor cab. That thing will be great haul truck for the farm with a bit of work! On a serious note, if that engine seems doggy at some point, check that dang EGR valve. Had a farm truck of the same era with that exact motor. It sat a lot and the EGR valve would stick, making it run poorly.

I have a small farm. I have often wanted a dump truck of any size. I am in the process of building a dump trailer with whatever stuff I have laying around. If I had that equipment, I would take all this scrap I have and it would be an excellent truck. In fact, I have the old '97 F-150 4x4 farm truck that I could move that dump bed and rear frame to. It wouldn't be road worthy, but it would sure be farm worthy.

Hi Mike. When you get what you want done to the truck, it is going to be exactly what you need to move the dirt you have planned to move. the best part is you won't need to rent a truck from you know who. If the truck is worth $300, then you made $25 per hour to pick it up,👍. Have good days!

I would jack up the back of the cab and install some wood blocks at the right height! Get the brakes functional and just patch the holes on the bed. Run it with minimal repairs and then get a list of repairs for the future. I have a dump trailer and wish that I had an older dump truck to get into tighter places. It's a beat-up truck, but.... I guarantee that you will prefer it over a dump trailer for property use. A friend of mine has an 89 F350 dump truck, and I wish I had bought it before he did, but his is 4wd

As someone who has owned and driven trucks far, far worse than that on the highway here in the Salt Capital of the Northeast (Northern New York State), I can tell you that you can jack the cab back up, weld in some old road signs for a floor and motor around the homestead in near luxury for decades. But as others have said, a different cab would probably be the smart move! Nice find, wish I had one.

Something to think about. When chaining or straping something down, itisbest to do the axles. Sometimes straping to frame your load can get to bouncing and break a weak strap or chain. Think this truck will make a good edition for you. Great find.

I'm sure you could find a good cab in a salvage yard somewhere, or Clint could hook you up. Definitely worth a cab swap. It would be nice if it was 4-wheel drive. That would definitely come in handy for those less-than-ideal conditions on the homestead! I'm sure you could do a 4x4 upgrade, it just depends on how many parts and if they are compatible with the current drivetrain. Another great addition to the homestead fleet!

great little homestead truck there. Like somebody else mentioned you might talk to Clint @ C&C & see about a Ford cab. We had a 89 f250 service truck . the ignition switch went bad. It wouldn't crank with the ignition switch but it would send power. So what we did we ran a push button start to like the old Autocars used to have. We also had a disconnect switch cat style master switch that would cut all power to the truck . Mack

I have two cabs that would fit your new Dump truck if wanted. Free of course but I live in northern MN which we both know isn't close. The rusted floor pans are common as are cab mounts, both can be fixed by a handyman like yourself.. I just rebuilt a 1994 Super Duty similar to yours. I'll send a few pics later not that there needed. Hope he gave you the title for it. Replace the fuel tank as most are bad at this age, condition, IMHO. Cheap and easy to replace as are the fuel pumps. Good luck Mike.. I love Ford's!

Well, there you go - everything you need to open an excavation business! Had a guy who did some work for me once. He had a fleet similar to DP but started out with a dump truck and a backhoe. He said he was happiest then. The headache of keeping everything running just wasn't worth it (he wasn't a trained mechanic like DP). Anyway, great score. Looking forward to it's evolution. I'd look at replacing the cab as the most cost effective route to a working dump truck.

70.8k subscribers, I would bet someone has an old Ford with a cab in better shape and an engine in worse shape. As many of those trucks are out there, finding a replacement cab shouldn't be too hard. I really like that the truck looks like it has the same vintage mildew and mold as the 555, as well as some of the body modifications. Those extra holes help with air flow and visibility. And if you were feeling adventurous, or maybe got conked in the head, you could take the Fubaru to the next level and make it a one ton. A fuba-dumper-ru.

Those are excellent trucks, you did well. Any body parts, 1/2-3/4-1 ton from 87-91 will fit and there’s literally thousands of those trucks. The 460 is an excellent engine, and those have a Borg-Warner cast iron 4 speed. For about half of what you have in the backhoe, you could have an excellent truck to pull it with. One less thing to have to rent. We all know you ain’t scared of doing the work. Too bad your so far away (I’m in Kansas), I know where there’s a beautiful rust free cab and chassis retired firetruck 4x4 for $800.

For the purposes of welding on the thumb, the stick welder will probably be much more capable vs an "inexpensive flux core welder". The flux core will be great for lite gauge jobs and you will love it but thicker metal your stick welder will have higher amp capabilities for those jobs.

Bit of advice based on my experience with a cheap-ish weld on thumb. Find a piece of pipe with an ID just slightly larger than the OD of the pin where actual thumb meets the weld on piece, and weld that between the 2 ears of the weld on base to reinforce those 2 ears. May also want to try to reinforce the ears where the thumb brace joins the base. Turns out those 2 places are, while not easy to bend, not impossible for someone who runs the equipment hard. They are more vulnerable to bending than the ears on the thumb or the brace, and frankly I'd rather the thumb or brace be the failure point than the base, as they're easier to fix or replace than the base. Don't get me wrong, something was going to give considering the situation I got myself into, but I'd have rather bent the thumb or brace than the baseplate. Though I guess your mileage may vary, depending on the exact model of thumb you have.

looking like a good project, more in line with what you need to accomplish around the property. Brought back memories listening to that carburetor sucking sound with the air cleaner off. Love the tetanus shot hood upgrade🙃

Spend a good day with some detailer and you should be good to go. And I appreciate your wardrobe coordination with the truck.

Mike whenever we moved a car or lorry ‘henceforth known as “the load” by trailer all we did was a twisted loop of rope/strap over all the tyres to the trailer and that was it, the rest of the load would follow them, that’s what they do on the road. If you attach any straps from the body of your load to your trailer then the car/trailer springs will bounce when you go over sleeping policemen (or live ones if you are lucky)(joke)and at best damage your load and at worst detach itself or cause it to snap, or is it different in the US of A?😮

I had a 73 F250 who lost its cab mounts. I jacked the cab up and shoved a piece of treated 5/4 decking between the cab and the frame to bring it back into alignment!!! Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!

Captain Kleeman, I know a guy who has a few of these trucks with good cab and frames. You could get a donor truck and make a great farm vehicle .😊😊

Nice score! She's a beauty. I had a 1987 F150 2WD some years back. It was the best truck I ever owned. Got me through one of the worst winters we had with a couple hundred pounds of weight in the back. It would be good to see this one saved. I think the 87 to 91 models had the best styling but maybe that's just me. Thanks for the video! -mike
