Also pro tip: The whole thing with turning left and right quickly to make it up hills is actually because of how KSP handles motor torque. If you set it up so that you have one side of the buggy "turning" one way and the other side "turning" the other (use action groups or something), then the tank steering neutralizes and you just get more power straight ahead. Kinda weird but that's KSP. I don't think it works if they wheels actually steer rather than using tank steering.
@mig01502 жыл бұрын
You should try actually take the truck off Duna and send it to the next planet rather than sending a new version of the truck to the next planet. Keep it going until it completely beaks down, then send a new one. I think that would make these truck journeys even more legendary.

Get Matt Lowne to do a Blunderbirds episode! Its not terrible getting back, your big thing is the rocket you need is quite large, but it is very possible (you could also do two rockets in and have a lander which then can go meet up a transport ship that takes people back. They are fun and complicated missions and they are my favorite to do. also not having to worry about bodies of water realy helped with the time. It still would of took a long time with Kerbin, but without the oceans in the way you could of probably got it done a lot faster.

You've officially inspired me and my friends, to attempt the grand trip of Space Engineers, where we attempt to make it all the way around every planet in the vanilla game, all with the same rover, which will be transported from one planet to the next after it's completed 1 full lap of the planet. We hope to achieve this all within Survival mode, and ultimately, since the planets are so much smaller, and the rovers are so much faster, it might not actually take that long to go around each planet, so we might add some mods to spice it up, give us some more areas of interest. All in all I love this idea, circumnavigation with rovers poses several rather interesting engineering challenges regardless of the game, so I'm gonna do it. Already started work on the rover too, it's going to essentially be a mobile base, as we will likely need to refine recourses for repairs, upgrades, and additional hydrogen and oxygen along the way, but it should be possible to do it all with one rover, with no assistance from a home base of sorts, besides serving as the start/finish line, so we're gonna take on the challenge.

Getting home really depends on how kerbal you want to do it. Duna is one of the easier ones. You can go more straight forward and have a rocket. I know a way you might be able to get them back. And yes, you guessed right, it does involve the carrier I gave you. You might be able to build a SSRT plane that can fit inside the cargo bay and can work in Duna's atmosphere. I haven't checked to see if you could put small planes in it yet. And also Gilly and the ore landers. I might be able to make it and send you the file. It might end up involving a Kraken drive with the plane. I hope you're ok with that. Might not even be a plane if we're going the Kraken drive route. Or if we do use a Kraken Drive, we probably won't need the mothership. Or you could join the Matt Lowne subreddit and request a Blunderbirds rescue mission. That is an option.

@@sidspooki Sid I just remembered something. There is a Delta V map you can get by googling "Delta V map ksp" and it tells you the delta v requirements to get to (and get to orbit from) the various celestial bodies around the Kerbol System. I think a Mk1 command pod and crew cabin atop a mk1 rocket fuel fuselage (I forget the in game name) with a terrier engine is enough to get to Duna orbit. Attach a docking port to the side of that, add some RCS, and put it in the cargo hold of the carrier cruiser and away you go.

here's some tips ive found sending rovers to low gravity planets: -you should turn the friction control up to max, so that your wheels actually get traction -you should also turn your drive limiter to about 20, so that you accelerate slower. this will significantly help with stability -for all rovers in general, i usually increase break power more the further back the wheel is, to prevent flipping over -similarly i turn steering way down to prevent rolling Also, whenever i use timewarp on a rover, it always ends up bouncing and then breaking the wheels. Do you not have that problem?

I did a KSP Duna video where I tried to get kerbals to Duna and back... and it did not go as planned Absolutely everything was performed by guesswork, and while I managed to rescue the kerbals, I did need a rescue team, and then a rescue team for the rescue team, and the rescue team for the rescue team nearly lost a kerbal to the void requiring a 3rd rescue team. I didn't play Kerbal for a while after that lol EDIT: I almost lost a kerbal to the void in a munar mission video which also required multiple rescue teams and played out very similarly to the duna disaster lol
