My Montana roots go back to 1874. My great grandmother was born in the Three Forks area before Three Forks was a town. She lived to be 107 years old and was (maybe still is the oldest native born Montanan ever.

I think it’s got a much more Midwest vibe than I had anticipated. Moved here in 2011 to get out of Illinois. What noticed back in 2011 was that the men seemed very tired all the time. And people make everything a laughing matter - which is good most of the time ! They don’t like it that I grew up in Calif - I was told that I was one of” them” - so I basically stick to myself . It’s definitely overly portrayed as a healthy place but the food has to be trucked in and is soooo expensive - hard to eat if one has any allergies - most folks have their group of friends already . It’s not recommended for older singles ! 😂😂

Montana is the greatest. I live in very rural Utah in a mountain cabin; in my life before I lived in the cities (and worldwide in the military); until you have lived in the woods you won't appreciate what it is like, but once you have done so, you will never want to go back. Rural folk (like the entire state of Montana) cringe like I do when they visit a monstrocity like Salt Lake City. We count the seconds until we are out of there.

Another epic report from Nick, the man well travelled. I was lucky to have visited Montana back in 2000, as a Brit, brought up in rural Devon, Montana was like a saviour (after spending three months living and working in LA) I took a road trip to Missoula, and just WOW, I’ll forever remember the landscapes I witnessed. I remember hiking a snowy trail to Garnet, a ghost town out of season…. I was the only one there. Those bars all across Montana are super kewl but if they don't have ANYONE in them what's the point??? I mean people mostly go to bars to socialize. If the bars are all empty or only have 90 year old men, i would go stir crazy out there. I mean when you asked that bar manager what there is to do in Broadview, he was like dumbfounded. Things outside i think he said. Don't get me wrong i love these small town rural areas but if they are soo rural that there isn't anything fun to do, what the hell are you going to do for most of your time????

What do you want a night club? Its not the city. People hunt, fish, or drink. Thats what everyone does in most small towns. That or get lost in a dirt road driving until you get bored.

I live north of montana by a couple hrs and the farm land is the same. The season is long enough to get a crop off. Yea lots of “hay” indicates lots of livestock. Hay is NOT the only thing that can be grown 😂. Popular crops up here in my parts is wheat, barley, oats, peas, lentils, canola, flax, mustard. You could also be doing corn etc…

As a lifelong Montanan that has been to all these places, I would say the biggest disgrace that didn't exist before this century was the line of campers in Bozeman. Montana may be simple, but basically, everyone's just trying to make a living and survive. Then the pandemic made it the most popular destination to live and the housing prices are causing a lot of problems. And you're right. A lot of people's trucks cost more than their houses did.

I'm from TX and the hubby and I drove across the country to get to a huge paying job in Alaska. We ended up having to travel west bc the ferry from Canada was broken down. Anyway, bf it got that bad, our alternator died. Right when everything seemed lost, in the blistering winter, after MILES we landed at the Cozy Corner. It was a God send to contact anyone for help. The bar called the local tow truck gal. We were there for awhile drinking whiskey, talking to the locals like you do. She came back, and we became friends instantly. We played pool, drank and it curbed the nerves. I had a few Jim beams and cokes. Tipped these guys huge. Drunk, I told the owner, do you realize how handsome you are? His friends nearly spit on themselves. He was bright red and so adorable! Anyhoo, that town saved our ass. Lavina? The tow truck girl said, think of vagina and you'll remember our name. I loved being there and soooooo grateful they helped us 🥰. It's a whole different breed of culture but everyone was so chill and kind. We were out in nowhere and freaked out. This bar was open and we're like, seriously? Wtf! Looked like a ghost town and all white on roads and Everything. God sends angels to help and there they were.
