This is the most dangerous part of the whole state of Oklahoma!
In this video, I drove through the worst neighborhoods in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The consensus among crime report data, poverty data and word of mouth is that the worst parts of the Tulsa metro area are in North Tulsa, in a particular set of neighborhoods along Martin Luther King Dr Blvd. So that was the direction I would head. It was a miserable day - an overcast sky and highs in the low 40s. The day was Saturday, November 28, 2020 at about 2 pm.
As a whole, Tulsa has a crime rate that’s far above the national average. But the north side of Tulsa is responsible for more than its fair share of crime. In addition, the poverty levels in North Tulsa are the worst of this city’s regions - in many areas we’ll see, half of the households live in poverty.
North Tulsa is home to high crime rates, poverty, large amounts of drug use and gang activity. However, because it was mid afternoon, most of the criminal element was still indoors. Murders, robberies and sex crimes happen here more frequently than in other parts of this city of 400,000. It is truly one of the most economically depressed areas in the region. Besides the massive number of vacant and rundown homes, this part of Tulsa also has a majority of this city’s public housing projects.
North Tulsa became geographically separated from the rest of the city with the construction of I-244, isolating the poorer members of the community from the heart of Tulsa. With the construction of the housing projects in North Tulsa, many working class folks fled due to fear of criminal activity. This led to an even further decline of North Tulsa. Homes in this part of Tulsa average around $100,000. As you’ll see, many are rundown, abandoned, boarded up or just poorly maintained.
We’ll now enter the worst neighborhoods in Tulsa, in an area called Valley View, an area with an undisputed reputation throughout the state of Oklahoma. Homes in this part of Tulsa average around $100,000. Many were rundown, abandoned, boarded up or just poorly maintained.

@@LeveyHere For centuries, Brazil has had a big inequality problem. At it's founding, it had more slaves than free people, and slavery ended many years after the U.S. abolished it. 20 years ago, it started looking like Brazil was entering an era of more equality, progress and safety. But, more recently, the well-to-do sided with a Trump-like yahoo to protect their position of luxury. Class distinction is huge in Brazil. About 20% of the population lives well, maybe another 20% have modest apartments with appliances, but nearly half are in poverty. The sad thing is that Brazil has vast resources and opportunities, but not everyone has access to its potential. Lord knows that there is great beauty and potential there. I've even thought of trying to move there (Santa Catarina or Rio Grande do Sul).

I am curious about all the vehicles, plus boats on a property, but the house itself is looking run down. Maybe you can answer, does that mean people are just renting there and not ultimately responsible for that upkeep or it's a thing to have numerous vehicles, recreational etc...as the priority ? I noticed that in several blocks shown in this video, so wondering if that is the culture of the neighbourhood showing ? One or two people out but not a lot of activity, otherwise. Nice enough streets to me. I live just behind Jane St. at Jane/Lawrence in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and EVERYONE says that neighbourhood is the worst...tons of families here, and they are all out during the summer. I get to know a lot of my neighbours giving treats out at Halloween, I make the kids tell me a joke for a treat, loads of fun, they really open up and compete with each other to tell their jokes!!

I disagree with your view. I am the Fire Marshal for this part of Tulsa and I drive around near "The Kitchen" where you videoed almost every day. Most people are friendly and try to do good. There are many churches, daycares and outreach services. In fact, if you go just south of where you were, around Reservoir Hill you will see beautiful homes and historic bungalows. There is a very beautiful old church and pastor house on the corner of Victoria St. and Boston Ave. that is just screaming out to be renovated and I am sure will be successful when it is done..... The fire protection in this area is the best in town. There are many bus routes and freeways here, even a casino. Businesses are coming back after a long absence. Public housing is just as good here as other parts of town. The schools are excellent. I have live within 5 miles of this area and couldn't be happier. With regards to I-244, you say it is a dividing barrier to the rest of the city....that is silly. What I-244 DID do is almost completely wipe out the Black Wall Street district around Greenwood Ave which had worked very hard to come back after the race riots of 1921. If you want to see poverty and neglect, you should take a stroll downtown near the jail and homeless shelters. It is as bad there as I saw it in L.A. back in the 80's. People living on the streets, under bridges and along the tracks...and this stretches far into ares of midtown and East Tulsa also. The Tulsa Fire Dept. is working tirelessly to help these folks and keep them safe with our C.A.R.E.S. Program and we have much work still to do.

They say “Thank you!” They are polite and appreciative. I have never felt in danger doing home health in this area. I recognized my clients homes as you drive through my coverage area... I think your review is biased. I once saw an old car stalled in an intersection you passed through on MLK Blvd. People of more than one race jumped out of their vehicles to help push the car out of the intersection. It was uphill so it didn’t work. Then I saw a guy with a lawn cutting business grab his gas can and run to the car and give him his gas to get it out of the intersection. If you send me your email, I will send you the picture I took. Awesome people. Poor in finances, rich in community. Bad review!

I’ve lived in Southern Oklahoma for most of my life, you know, not too far away from Red River. I’m telling you right now, the amount of shady stuff happening outside of town GREATLY outnumbers that of the stuff going on in town. If this is what Impoverished, Crime ridden life looks like, then I don’t know what I’m getting wrong here. This looks the exact same as any normal neighborhood I’ve seen in the state, in fact, it looks much better than plenty of the streets I’ve seen in Oklahoma before. Born and raised in "T-Town". When my family moved to North Tulsa in the early 1970's, the housing area was safe, beautiful, clean and more racially integrated. In the 1980's, drug pushers took over the area and we moved to another city in the suburbs. I've moved of state, but recently went to see my childhood home and area...OH MY GOODNESS! Trash everywhere, huge street potholes, crappy or no sidewalks...some areas look like a third-world country. It's the city's fault for neglecting the area and not making positive changes there! Tulsa's suburbs are nice and safe...that's only if you can afford it.

Its really not as bad as people make it. Numbers and statistics can always be skewed, especially data that is reported to the fbi by local law enforcement. I'm sure the reporting in that area is race based reporting. Tulsa is the home of the largest race riot in US history, the birthplace of David Duke (former KKK grand wizard) so there's no denying Tulsa has racial history. It's really like anywhere else tho. Most of the country is in a lower than average temps and weather. The jet stream that keeps the cold air in the arctic has weakened because of the warming air. It got released and is effecting half of the globe. They call that a "polar vortex". Don't worry, it will be hotter than ever with HARRP in a few yrs but we will keep having the jet stream broken as it get warmer. Soon, polar bears will be a thing of the past.

Out North if you mind your business and stay out if trouble it won't find you. Most of the crime out there is personal. Instead of just driving through a neighborhood how about you pull up in a camper and stay for a week in each area and see how it really is.

Plenty of dying, isolated towns that look bad in Canada. Or some areas in Winnipeg and mid-sized towns in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Some of SW Ontario's industry-dense towns have all the same problems of the Midwest and NE US. Farther north towns be they in Alaska or Canada suffer high crime. I find North Tulsa fairly mild. The types of US areas I haven't seen in Canada are the super-dead large inner cities like St. Louis, Detroit, and Baltimore. Canada's best neighborhoods though tend to be more impressive than American ones just for the cleanliness and use of modest landscaping. Americans seem to prefer big houses over elegant neighborhoods, if that makes sense.

@@peregrination3643 Two observations about Canada, from the US side of the river: The cost of housing in Southern Ontario and SW Ontario is incredibly high - even after one is considering the USD/CAD exchange rate. So, in fleeing in fear they created the very thing they feared. If people would not run in fear maybe it would have never been so bad. I know, I lived it years ago to know it’s true. The one thing people did back years ago that now is totally absent and even considered taboo and criminal in today’s society is to fight back. That’s why what is happening now in this sad country is happening. The perpetrators know we do not fight back, we only make excuses for their criminal behavior. Till that changes, nothing will.
