Today I went to the Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane, I thought I'd try the most expensive steak on the menu to see what it's like, as well as a few beers. Let's check out this Brisbane icon and their meat selection :D

I was posted to Brisbane in 1983 when I was in the Army. Had more than a few beers at the Brekky Creek. And steaks. Back then it was $9.99 for a rump steak (medium rare for me) with a potatoe cooked in foil with a mince filling and sour cream. A lot of money even in those days.

The beer in the barrel on the bar is generally called a Firkin or a small cask. They usually serve them at room temp at the bar. The temperature varies depending on how long it’s been out.

I live in Brisbane too, but have only been to the Breaky creek hotel a few times, those prices did seem a bit exxy & I think you'll find most local taverns with a decent chef could do a similar meal for a better price, but part of the reason to go to Breaky Creek is to say you've been there. Also that steak looked more medium rare than medium, but maybe it was just the lighting as if you get a steak that is not what you asked for, word gets around, fast, & next time you go there is a new chef, but great video.

Outstanding work to the Brekky Creek for not slapping a magnificent steak on top of the chips as most restaurants seem to think this presentation is what the customer likes, (hey hands up who like soggy chips...... not me!!!). Serious any chef who puts a prime bbq cut on top of crispy chips needs to work for a fast-food chain. Keep these coming Greg I think you have found a new calling in restaurant reviews.

Been to that old boozer a few times over the last forty years. Sea food is great, the steak is good but to be fair it does not match a grass fed Aberdeen Angus I've had in the UK or indeed a Charolais at my friends place in Central France.
