Today I found a fish and chip shop, i'm not too sure what the name of it is, i think it's called Yum Thai Kiwi Roast? Anyway, they had a deal for some fish and chips so I thought i'd give them a go to see if they are the best fish and chips!

The last time I bought a battered sav it was $4.50 but that was at a festival and I think they were prepackaged/frozen. Scallops are $1.50 ea at my local fish shop. So yeah, as long as it was all edible, $9 is pretty good value for a takeaway meal. The sav shoulda come with some dead 'orse though.

95 per cent of the fish and chips places just seem to buy the ingredients in for their own convenience and the lowest cost. Only a couple of shops seemed to have gone the extra step of chips made in shop and decent fish. My local greek shop does an awesome, old fashioned style serving for the same price.

If you want real kiwi fish n chips (will beat any Aussie shop) go to NZ. Thames is famous for their fish. Or anywhere in Northland. You know, because we are surrounded in the ocean, obviously the fish is better. 😁

Potato Scallops and Potato Cakes are not the same thing, a potato scallop is a slice of potato, battered and deep fried, a potato cake is processed or grated potato formed into a pattie, battered or crumbed and deep or shallow fried.

The batter on that hot dog looked like it would insulate my house! If you're ever over here in NZ on a road trip or whatever, need to try our fish and chips. Also, go to the shops that ONLY do fish and chips, I find the ones that do kebabs, pizza, chinese etc as well aren't that good. If you're ever down in the South Island, go to Twizel there is a place called Razza Bar, has the best fish you'll ever eat and chips won't disappoint. Also just down the road from Lake Pukaki so take your feed down to the lake front and tuck on in!

Greig, so what I do, NEVER buy battered or crumbed fish if it's been pre cooked. Even if it was just precooked at the shop earlier that day. Twice cooked fish is NEVER a good thing. Fish, into flour, into batter, into the fryer, into my package and into my belly. Only way to have it.

Greggo, There is no way that is a Kiwi cod. Crikey, you could use that as a credit card in the ATM over here in New Zealand. Real cod is an inch thick without batter or crumbs, before it's cooked.
