Out of all the photographer youtubers I watch, you are the best at making these editing videos. You really know how to describe why and how you are using your editing techniques on a photo. Just curious though since you seem so educated, how did you come to learn all these techniques?
@juliatrotti5 жыл бұрын
Miss Jalapeno Oh my gosh that’s such a massive compliment, thank you so much! I have always been interested in Photoshop so I started playing around with it about 11 years ago now when I was in school. I would read a lot of books and my dad used to take me to seminars & photography talks, where the photographer would also talk about their editing workflow. Unfortunately there wasn’t any KZbin tutorials back when I learnt which would have been really handy 😂 then my first job was as a retoucher in a photography studio which really helped me hone my skills and learn how to do things more professionally!

sorry if its a dumb question but do all photographers edit their pictures? like what is the point of having really expensive setups if pictures will still be modified in Lightroom
@lorenson5 жыл бұрын
Taking the photo is only half of the process. Having a good setup is giving you a good starting point and the retouching makes a good photo a great on. You'll never find any professional photo that isn't retouched. Even in the pre-digital times photos were retouched.

Hello Julia. I love your ease with Lightroom. You just know what to bring up in a photo! How did you learn Lightroom? On your own or did you attend classes? If it was classes, were they helpful or did you have to rely on yourself, growing and practicing your skills, to reach this level of comprehension? Finally, it might be obvious to some, but I am wondering if I can use another Photographer's LR presets on photos of mine, considering they have been shot with probably ISO settings, (sun)light etc. Does it make sense? Does someone need to have used the same settings on DSLR with that photographer's, to be able to apply a preset on their own photos?
@hey.steven5 жыл бұрын
Hayley Rose Winters nope! You can use any preset on any photo. When you use a lightroom preset, you’re basically copy/pasting the colors and the tone curve. Like you mentioned, every photo is shot differently with varying settings so when you use a preset, it may not look perfect right away. you would have to adjust the white balance so that your photo is balanced. Check out Julia’s video “how to fix lightroom presets that don’t work” video. She’s also got many videos on lightroom tips and editing tips!
@johannraath81685 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess I would say that it is just years of working with Lightroom. Even if you attend a class. The only way to get better at something is repetition. Doing it a thousand times over and over and learning from your mistakes. On the preset question. You can apply any preset to any photo. But you are right in that the preset will look different depending on ISO, white balance, time of day etc. But even the people who created that preset still have to play around with it when they use it on any of their other images. There is no one click solution :) Happy editing!
