What a beautiful place to go for you anniversary❤ I wouldn't go in that bunker either, definitely wouldn't be to get back out😂 I agree its worth looking round places at quieter times even if shops aren't open, I went to Whitby in January this year so i could actually have a proper look round

Helooooo Lucy - WOW, what a fascinating video - obviously ! Firstly, Happy wedding Anniversary and secondly, what a beautiful little Castle - Broadway Tower is. It's lovely to see it in such good condition, and that view from the top - breath taking ! The Nuclear Bunker looked interesting too, but being almost 70, I too could not have got down and then back up that ladder ! I havn't been to the Cotswolds for maybe 60 years - my parents took my sisters and I to Bourton on the water once, and all I really remember of that is the river running through the middle of the town. Anyway, happy days, and thank you so much yet again, for taking us on your special adventure and showing us such beautiful places. Take special care 🙂 X X

You are so welcome Michael, we did actually drive down to Bourton on the water as I wanted to film the river but OMG it was SO BUSY - I have never seen anything like it, no way I could have filmed without getting a hundred faces in. It's certainly a special area of family days off and memories and I am glad I could capture that :)

Thanks for this Lucy. My brother's first home in Leeds was a back to back, built as rows of terraced homes not as a court. Imagining how whole populations lived cheek by jowl, with so few facilities is sobering. No wonder public health and infant mortality were major issues for social change. I've spent part of my life working with current public health issues, but most are nothing compared to this. A great reminder of the need for access to decent housing in todays world. I totally agree about looking out of the window and wondering....it is the human connection that is so powerful. Great job!❤

Thank you! I absolutely love to hear from people who have experienced these as a home. They are such an important part of our heritage and to me more valuable than a stately home. I can't imagine for a minute what it felt like to live there and I count my blessings every day. My Mom spent her first 5 years in one and hasn't been able to face visiting the museum yet such was the impact on her that cheek by jowl living had on her. X

How about taking the no 11 bus ( outer circle route around Birmingham ) and getting off at stops to explore what might be there to no doubt interest you ? I used the no 11 bus daily to go from Harborne to Winston Green , where I was a Health Visitor in the 1960’s . The News of the World newspaper ( long gone!) used to advertise itself on hoardings then saying ‘ All human Life is there’ …..it certainly was in Winston Green! Happy Anniversary! ♥️ What a fab video - just unlocked whole load of childhood memories 😊 I lived in Wickhamford the next village up the road, and my Aunty and grandparents lived in Broadway. My Aunty helped run "The Cotswold Cafe" which was a bit of an institution back in the day (sadly not there now, but it was where the shops are now by the Broadway Hotel) and she met loads of celebrities over the years. My uncle was a carpenter/decorator and he worked on the tower in the 80's - and you're right, I def don't remember it looking anywhere near as beautiful inside when I was a kid as it is now! I did my school work experience in the kitchens at the Lygon Arms - and it definitely was an experience! 🤣 I'm really shocked the National Trust didn't want the tower, and like you said I bet they really regret that now! lol, there is no way my knees would be getting me up and down that bunker ladder either! Thanks Lucy, watching this has been the loveliest start to my day! 😊

I hadn’t thought about those smaller olde worldy tootsies on the stairs :) I think that bunker opening would have put quite a lot of people off cos it looks a bit scary!! I find the idea of them Spooky. I watched ‘Threads’ as a young adult and it scared the crap out of me, so when I think of nuclear bunkers it reminds me of the utter pandemonium and terror in the bunker scene in that film.

Interestingly the volunteer said they had only had 2 people go down all day, that's quite shocking compared to the hundreds that were up at the tower, I think you are right, it is quite scary, lots of people don't like enclosed spaces and the ladder is a challenge for more people than you would expect ... and yes, something about the thought of being stuck in one - my imagination is far too ripe for that!

@throughlucyslens unfortunately not, same vertical ladder access, blast wall at the bottom, my partners son, 12 at the time, was to nervous to go in, so I had to photograph everything to share with them on my exit As you say, necessary in its construction, to make it accessible would lose the atmosphere, as well as add huge costs to the trust I have visited properties where inclusive access just isn't practical, however, they've set up a video room, so a filmed guided tour is played, so it's not missed by visitors unable to gain access. Would be nice to see similar with the bunker sites Take care Geoff

@@throughlucyslens No worries Lucy. I thoroughly enjoy your show regardless. My wife was born in Birmingham. I fell in love with her accent first. I am not in any way attacking you, your accent, or the way you annunciate. If you want to say Corpse and New Killer, that's fine by me. No-one will mind. I know that North Americans struggle with the word Nuclear and that it is sometimes tempting to pronounce a written word literally as spelled. Please promise me just one thing: Never mispronounce the word; Schedule. Lots of Love. Tom x

Wouldn’t you just love to live here. Books and William Morris, what could be better than that. I’m sure I’ve been there too when it was neglected. Fancy The Trust refusing this wonderful dwelling. It is enchanting. Some love token, I got a new toilet seat for my anniversary. It isn’t the same is it?

Oh that's so funny!!! I got a coffee table this year .. I mean it's lovely but not a castle! Yes I believe the tower used to be free to enter and was a museum inside but it's been made fancy these days with an entry fee to match!

My ex was in the ROC, I had to feed my baby daughter down there on an open day at his area command, scary thought we could have been down there for real if the cold war had literally blown up .!

Gosh!! I think I would have been scared even in your circumstances! I sort of wish I had been down there but also was kind of glad my knees were misbehaving! haha

Can't you just see the kids running up and down those stairs?
