That's because it's a creepypasta. Not a /r/nosleep story. A kind of reformed version of creepypasta. CreepyPastas can be terrifying but at the same time... That fear can be rationalized away as fake because of the story telling. Especially if the story is told from the first person perspective and the main character dies. It would be impossible to get a story from someone who died. The NoSleep subreddit has a specific rule (2) about the stories posted there. 2. Stories must be plausible. This means that the narrator must be physically and mentally capable of posting and that the events of the story cannot be proven to be false on a large scale. Stories posted in 2nd person or third person omniscient must have a clearly stated believable reason for being written as such. So due to the nature of the realistic story telling, most horror narrators on KZbin pull from NoSleep. Because the best way to scare an audience is to give them something that could possibly be real. That's why a majority of their stories told are told by people that survive their encounter

No invaders, no dragons, no trolls, no giants, no heights and now no underground caves has been added to my list of things that aren’t allowed in my life. I’m the biggest Barnaby’s fan to date and I’m an overall fan of your narration voice. So descriptive and full of emotion and character. Exactly what you need to convey any story especially horror. Antagonist or protagonist, creole walking dead and their zombie flunky you hit the mark each time. I’m an avid reader and I’ve never listened to anything or watched a movie that didn’t leave anything me needing to read the book for confirmation. You wrap it all up in a neat bow and you leave the listeners wanting more when you are doing a sequel. Great Job 💜👏🏾

Why is his headlamp dying? He literally just started exploring. It should last for hours, and he should really have backup batteries on his person. And he should really have a weapon on him, like a hunting knife, a pistol, and tools, and climbing gear. You never know what kind of animals might be in an abandoned mineshaft, not to mention all the other hazards. This could be titled "Final moments of an unprepared adventurer." Edit: Ok, so they also started in the evening.

Yeah… this one was above and beyond creepy! And thoughtful - not just a bunch of predictable gore; the developments were well-spaced and suspenseful, with just enough left unexplained. Like, what exactly happened to Jim - and who exactly is Sliver, especially to the landowner? Sliver was just as much of a smart a$$ as the protagonists, sending down Jim’s backpack followed by the rope itself. Every moment of hope was cut off immediately until the very end. Well done. 🎉

This gives me close to the same level of unease I had when a friend of mine was facetiming me. She'd just parked her van to camp in the woods somewhere for the night. A few minutes into talking while she's taking a look around, we both (me through her camera) see there were lots animal bones on the ground. Like mounds of them. I was like, "You should probably get out of there." She of course agreed, quickly turned around and then kicked a pile of previously unseen beer cans. She sprinted to her van and got the hell out of there. Nothing happened/she didn't hear or see anything but still, really tense few minutes there. I was about that uneasy for the entire narration, fantastic work!

The characters of my stories are often killed or left in debilitating madness at the end. I feel that in this age of internet horror stories, there is a constant push to stick to nosleep or creepy pasta rules (i.e., the narrator can't die, and if he/she/they do, the story has to be told through a journal or something). The idea is that it enhances immersion and believability, which it does, but sometimes people just want a story that can do anything and go anywhere - nobody's safe.

The moment the necklace was founds, FUCKIN LEAVE. Bring it into town, get ahold of local authorities, give them the necklace and the info. Then wash your hands of it. If she's down there, the authorities will find her. Touching the body will only destroy evidence. But let's be real. This is not likely the work of a human, and the townsfolk already know. That's how these stories go 🤷‍♀️

My biggest fear is heights my legs go weak and I’m useless after a certain point. My sons and husband talked me into climbing up a look out tower I forgot which one but it looks out over the tree tops idk how I got up as far as I did but the wind started to blow and the look out tower swayed and I’m was like nope I’m going back down and I turn around to go down my legs turned to jello! My husband and eldest son had to carry me down 😩😔🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤣✌🏻

March 31, 2023 Hey all! This is around my 6th or 7th time listening to this brilliant tale. I have ONE question… Why would the MC go down the shoot WITHOUT a powerful flashlight?! You never know all the different things that could happen on the way down… I don’t think anyone who goes into mines for exploration, (INCLUDING A PERSON DOING SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR THE VERY 1ST TIME…) would ever go even 20 feet into a mine, let alone slide down a 900+ ft. mine shoot WITHOUT a GOOD source of light!!! I don’t care if the person coming down after you is your very best friend, sibling, parent or spouse, etc… there’s no way to 100% know that they would be able to slide your pack down to you with flashlights, batteries and water. People fall over dead from aneurysms, heart attacks and other unfortunate issues all the time without ANY warning. That is why you HAVE to make sure that you are not totally dependent on another person for something you MUST HAVE to continue on living… like AN EXCELLENT LIGHT, while going VERY DEEP into a mine! Anyway, that’s my two cents! I really loved this story and Stephen, you did such a marvelous job narrating it, AS ALWAYS! I pray that everyone reading this and their loved ones are staying happy and healthy! Love from Texas ♥️🤠🌴 EDIT: I guess the MC did wear a headlamp. Why didn’t he check that it was actually working well? I think most people would have thrown a few new batteries for it into their pocket(s) before heading deep down into a mine through a 900 ft. shoot! I KNOW I would have!

I used to work in a cave(a summer gig at a national park). Turning out the lights for the night alone was nerve wracking. We had one part of a tour where we'd turn off the lights. Always liked to joke that someone was missing when we turned em back on.
