For years I've wanted to do a series exploring Nuclear Power. IT'S TIME. I recorded this video about a year ago in the wilderness of Idaho at Idaho National Labs. I'm VERY EXCITED about this series, and I hope you are as well. For the first video, my goal was to understand the fundamentals of how a nuclear power plant works. I believe EBR-1 (Experimental Breeder Reactor - 1) is an amazing place to start. If you'd like to get an old-school email when I upload the next videos (I won't spam you) in the series here's a link to receive email updates: www.smartereveryday.com/email Thanks to everyone who supports on Patreon! If you'd like to consider supporting, here's the link: www.patreon.com/smartereveryday Thank you! I'm grateful for your time and that you're willing to learn this stuff with me! Here's a link to the main channel video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIe1gKauqc-iedk

I Love your content and appreciate everything you do for your community but I must ask if the email list is something you keep secured or something you share with third parties? I wish to sign up but do not want my info being sold to other parties

Andrew is a rock star! His love of history mixed with the way that history tickles his inner nerd is very entertaining. You can tell that he loves his job and does his very best to educate himself as much as possible to improve the visitors experience!

I love hearing about design mistakes that make it past hundreds of people. My local hospital was built 15 years ago without a morgue, they only realized it in the final few months of construction when some senior staff got a walk through. They also had to move the sinks because they put them on the exterior walls instead of right inside the doors making it difficult and disrupt the natural work flow of washing your hands entering or exiting patients rooms.

My guess would be at that "mystery part" at the diesel generator, is a boiler to keep the NAK liquid during longer off times, or maybe just to heat the Bulding.

Destin, can I ask you to investigate if a camera stabilizer is something you can use on the walk around shoots? These videos are super interesting, but I kind of can’t watch very much of it at the time without getting motion sickness with these wide lenses.

I worked at the first privately owned nuclear power plant, Dresden, in northern IL for 16 years. I saw and experienced some very interesting and weird stuff in those years. Thanks for sharing this video.

My vote is that the "rotary burner" is a rotary kiln burner that is used for ore processing and in the production of cement. They can have multiple fuel sources, gas, liquid or solid. Just my guess after some googling tho.

Read Richard Feynman biography. Nuclear aircraft was his suggestion. Once had a plastic aircraft model of one. Just not practical. Electricity and nuclear powered ships seem to be most logical choices for peaceful uses of nuclear energy. There must be more I don't know about.

So if the reactor was used to add heat to the jet engine does that mean it still needed jet fuel to combust and produce thrust? Instead of spark plugs it had a nuclear reactor? What am I missing?
