Yes but now porsche sells cars aimed at fleet buyers. The Panamera, The Macan, and the Cayenne are all bought as company cars. You probably didn't have people walk in back then and say "I need 20 Panamera for the board members, 15 Cayenne for the upper managment, and 25 macan for the upper middle management thanks" Thats what everyone is forgetting, these guys buying 5 porsche cars for a million and expecting to be up the list, yeah maybe 25 year ago, but now? Do you know what happens if you refuse the guy putting the fleet order through a gtr? he puts his order through with mercedes the next year and phones them up looking for an amg gt coupe and gets it.. Even Lexus did it, a cherry to dangle at the fleet buyers. Watch makers do it. You have to get to car brands that only do sports before having 4 or 5 will get you any sort of way up a list.

One of the salesmen there saw me crying in my car on lunch break and found out from the boss what happened. This person had been hazing me from hour 1 of working there. He taunted me about my brother. Telling me his sole mission was to make me cry as much as possible -and I won’t repeat any if the things he said to me but think of the worst things possible. Everyone there was an asshole but nowhere near this level of pure evil. Fast forward some years and I’m the AGM of a gourmet market-basically a mini Whole Foods but over-the-top customer service and quality-and guess who walks in the door? My boss, the GM, knew my story and I took her aside and told her this idiot was in our store. She gave me permission to kick him out. I didn’t do it. Hey Mark, I just watched your video and couldn't agree more, especially given my recent experience here in the US. I'm an expat residing in San Francisco and have a story that echoes your points, but perhaps even more frustrating. During the Covid pandemic, I set out to purchase a Porsche GT3. Despite my efforts, I couldn't secure it from a Porsche dealership, so I ended up buying it from a local non-Porsche dealer. Keen to establish a relationship with the official service department, I visited the Porsche dealer, letting them know about my GT3 acquisition and expressing interest in a GT3 RS. The response was a bit disheartening, as the representative hinted at the difficulty due to my lack of a "Porsche history" with their dealership. I explained that this GT3 was my seventh 911, though my previous purchases were in the UK. Their insistence on a history with their specific dealership felt somewhat narrow-minded, but I understood their perspective. In a bid to strengthen this nascent relationship, I even purchased a Taycan from them - a fantastic car, by the way. Confident that this might put me in good stead, I asked to be put on the waiting list for the GT3 RS. I had low expectations but was willing to be patient. However, what came next was truly shocking. The representative mentioned that as a new customer, if I were lucky enough to get an allocation for a new car, I'd be required to pay an outrageous premium of $150,000 over the list price. This revelation was astounding and deeply disappointing. The notion of an authorized dealer demanding such a significant markup on a new vehicle was beyond belief. Needless to say, I was livid and expressed my displeasure quite vocally to both the representative and the dealership. Mark, your video didn't touch on this, but another crucial point to consider is the reason behind the limited supply of high-performance models like the GT3 RS. It's not just what Carl mentioned. A significant factor is the stringent emissions targets that manufacturers like Porsche must adhere to. These high-performance models are produced in limited numbers to maintain a balance with their overall vehicle emissions as a manufacturer. This experience and understanding the broader context of car manufacturing has left me deeply disillusioned. It's not just about the scarcity of these models; it's also about the tactics employed by dealerships. Porsche, as a brand, risks being tarnished by such practices. Their dealerships’ approach, especially in demanding unwarranted premiums, not only damages customer relationships but also undermines the brand's integrity. I'm sharing this in hopes that it brings more awareness to these issues and perhaps encourages a change in how these prestigious vehicles are distributed and sold. Thanks for shedding light on this topic, Mark. It's crucial for potential buyers to be aware of these challenges and for manufacturers to recognize the impact of dealership practices on their reputation.

@@AJayZy honestly the difference between BMW and Porsche is nowhere as big as you make it sound. You ain't comparing Dacia to Mercedes here. While they have a similar 'drivers cars' ethos, Porsche has a more sporty focus which often means they don't achieve the sophistication that a luxury car needs (see the new 7-series vs Panamera). In fact with many competitive BMW/Porsche models, going to Porsche is often a tradeoff instead of a direct upgrade, especially if you're looking to spend about the same money. Perfect example: I own a Z4 M40i and plan to own a Boxster next. The Boxster GTS is the only model which is an actual upgrade, and it costs significantly more. On top of that, you gotta spend about 10k EUR on top on the leather interior to get a similar interior quality to the Z4, plus the options which are hella expensive with Porsche. Or you could get a Boxster T if you want to stay in the same price area, which honestly is a downgrade in practically every area aside from the raw feel. Oh, and the CPO car is marked up almost $10k over it's original sticker - and higher priced than the new car - but is lower spec than the new one. I told them I'd shop elsewhere.

I don't see what's fraudulent about it. Surely it's up to them to decide who they sell to. If you don't like it, go and buy a different car from somewhere else. I presume it's to try and weed out the people who want to come in and buy the car and just immediately flip it for profit whereas Porsche would rather sell to loyal customers who want to actually keep and enjoy the car, or as mentioned in the video, be ambassadors for the brand. I can't really blame Porsche for that. But also similarly just let people with too much money, spunk it away giving it to Porsche for the 'cachet' of owning one of these halo cars.. it's their money, let them throw it away. Scarcity is a powerful dynamic. Many high end watch brands are doing the same thing. MSRP doesn’t mean anything. An item is worth what people are willing to spend on it regardless of what its MSRP is. If a Porsche is going for $350k on the secondary market-it’s a $350k car. Are you going to insure it for $250k if replacement value is $350k? Dealers have found out that it’s better to offer these rare items to their best customers at a discount to what the secondary market is commanding instead of just charging anybody and everybody the full market value. I don’t like it as it seems wrong and greedy-but everybody interviewed in this video (the Porsche salespeople a well as that luxury car dealer) was brutally honest about the situation.

Apparently, Porsche is now following Ferrari's footsteps.
@Brian.Jones.3105 ай бұрын
Jay Leno only has problems with Ferrari. He was vocal against Ferrari and their business model but somehow praised Ford when they used the same business model to select the customers for the 2017 Ford GT. Also, Lamborghini dealers did this back in 1988, they only sold the 25th anniversary Countach to those who bought a LM002 from them. They did this because the LM002 wasn't selling well as nobody wanted that car. McLaren also followed the same business model as they asked prospective customers of the Senna to buy the 720S.

I stopped buying from Hatfield after falling out with them, (I think I bought 6 from them), but despite having also bought 1 car from Mayfair, 2 from Reading and my 2 most recent cars from Guildford (so well into double figures with PRG dealerships), I can't get a place for any GT cars as brand loyalty doesn't count, it's only loyalty to an individual dealership that potentially gives one a place on the elite list. I've also bought 3 cars from Dick Lovett, 1 from `Sytner and a couple from Ashgood. I wouldn't buy to sell, but having one of the rare cars would be a real treat! The shadiest trick wasn’t mentioned. Here in the US when Porsche dealerships get an allocation that hasn’t been sold yet they will contact one of their big customers to come down and buy the car outright. Then the customer sells it directly back to them for what they paid but now since the title has switched hands they can now list it as a CPO with a massive markup. I’ve seen that twice within the last couple months at my local Porsche dealership and they are a smaller one. They had a CPO Dakar with 10 miles for 430k and a GT3 with 22 miles for 300k.

With the scam those dealers are pulling can you explain what's in it for that 'customer' that they are getting to buy it and immediately sell it back? Do they slip them part of the profit or does it enhance their rating/score on the list? Cheers.

I had the exact same issue with Porsche Nottingham two years ago…. Walked in spoke to the receptionist & said I’d like to purchase a new car, what car she asked…a 911.2 GT3 RS with Weissach package, I’ll get a sales mane for you. Then this jumped up little 🔔 end comes over in his mother care tight fitting suit & asks straight away have you had a Porsche before… No I’m treating myself as it’s my 50th. That’s ya problem he replied, then he went on about I should have bought Porka’s before then sold them back to the dealer etc etc…. After about 5 mins of him telling me what I should have done I tore the little C**T a new one in the showroom about the way in which he was talking to me, next thing I know is two 🐷 rock up & ask me to leave as I’m causing a scene!! After I’d explained what had happened one of the 🐷 I walked off in disbelief!! Wanting to spend that amount of money & not on finance either I thought fcuk the lot, so 3 weeks later I purchased 5 acres of land & built 6 stunning 5 bed homes. If enough porsche customers started making videos and instagram posts saying they've been denied buying GT3s and GT3RSs coz they refuse to buy other cars, porsche would fix this over night. @Legend57.10 ай бұрын
@@russell6075 1. This is a very ideal situation for them. Instead of selling one car they sell 5-10 cars. GT products are just marketing tools inorder to sell the other products. It's like subaru and the WRX STI and BRZ. 2. Everyone is either quiet or only talking about it amongst themselves and or in forums so there's no media traction. This means they can afford to sit back and let things go on as they are. 3. When it comes to track focused and sportscars in general, no one does it better than porsche. They're light, reliable both on and off the track, rock solid so you can beat on them all day, get up the next day and continue beating on them. They look good and last but not least, they hold their value really well. I don't think there's any sports or supercar that can do this. Most of them only look good and do really well as street cars. They are mediocre on track coz, fall apart the second you start beating on them, some fall apart while parked and some weigh more than most mountains s/o to clarkson.

Carl is right, ultimately it’s cheaper to just pay overs for a car than to play the game with a dealership for the chance that you might get the chance to buy one.
@CoolHand27310 ай бұрын
Yes but if you want it customized to your spec that is going to be a problem. The "overs" always has to cover the sellers sales tax at least here in the US and whatever premium the market insists upon. With Rolex it is worse the models you are forced to buy literally have no resale value. Its just better to buy the piece you want at a markup if you absolutely need it now. I do see prices of secondhand rolex going down probably due to money problems in China and to some extent here. I guess I am not rich enough to really bother. I cannot figure out what the fuss is about the Porsche GT cars. I have owned my 911 GTS for many years now but I don't really know what is special about them. It is nice to have a car that doesn't depreciate as much as a BMW or MBZ but still. They just seem to be cars that mid tier doctors, dentists, and lawyers drive.
