I remember that when I was a young, british primary schooler [year 5 out of 6] I wrote a story based off 'The crayons quit' where I wrote all about how the crayons met GRUESOME ENDS. One, was MELTED INTO CANDLE WAX, another A WAX BLOB ON THE FLOOR, ONE WAS CRUSHED BY BRICKS, and another was COOKED IN THE OVEN, YET ANOTHER WAS CHOPPED LIKE CARROTS, and finally, my all time favourite was the EXPERIMENT ONE. He was left out [on purpose] in the backyard overnight, so it's owner could see what the rats did to the crayon [they had an infestation]. The next morning, however, the rats had DIED of food poisoning, and the only bitts of the crayon in the visible area were a couple scraps of it's paper casing. Story time is fun for sadists.
