This type of video helped me a lot. I was struggling with guilt due to not finishing my army project for this year. But seeing as even THE Painting Coach sometimes can't finish every project, maybe I also don't have to. In the hobby, we shouldn't HAVE to do anything. Otherwise it won't be a hobby. So thank you for making this video!

Absolutely, pressure to paint in a joy killer. Problem with mini painting is it's very easy to find loads of cool stuff to buy, and very time consuming to put it together and do justice to the sculpts with our paints. We have to pressure ourselves so we can get on the the next cool mini, but we have to keep it fun as well and not like a labour. I do hate times painting challenges in general. Let the minis take as long as they need to be painted. If you want the challenge part, just time it and have a final time at the end.

God choice. I got a Tyranid army, when Leviathan was released. I added units to it, for something close to 3000 points +/- depending on point updates. I have been painting since summer 2023, and now i only have a few models left. I enjoy all of 40K, but for me the painting have become the main enjoyment. So i never hurry to get paint on models. I paint a unit to a high standars before moving on to the next. For me its my get away from the stress and just sit in my own bubble for a few hours a week. Enjoy the painting, take your time. I have 4 more armies, so i always have an army ready to play a few games to break away from painting.

Fair play man. The amount of projects I have started and not finished is ridiculous 😂. We will meet on the battlefield soon brother.

It's really a tactical ploy to wait until the new dex comes out 🤣

The best way to interact with New Year New Army is not to buy anything at all. It's a marketing hype train that pushes buying a bunch of stuff to motivate oneself. Don't do it! Paint what you got! Take your time. Enjoy the process. Buy new kits when you know you've got the time to enjoy it!

Love this video. The pressure to finish models can be huge and the enjoyment goes down hill fast! Great to see a channel be open and honest about that. 👍

It takes me days to complete one mini, and sometimes I but my brushes down for weeks at a time. Haven’t done any hobby since the new cod came out for example. Slow and steady wins the race 👍

I got into Warhammer when I was 20. The twilight days of 7th edition. Originally because a mate in college loved the setting, sent me the link to If The Emperor Had a Text-To-Speech Device and loaned me his copy of the Night Lords trilogy. Suffice to say: I was hooked! Got into the game when 8th edition got into gear. Chaos Marines were my jam after underestimating just how hard painting Imperial Fists was gonna be. Chaos Marines are still my jam. Now as much as I love playing. (It's a great excuse to get together with the mates and have laugh.) Painting is my favourite part. It's wonderfully therapeutic. Just zone out for a few hours and hyperfocus on getting paints on plastic. Helped me deal with a lot of stuff as I could take my mind of things and just paint.

I originally got into Warhammer as a kid then left the hobby until covid hit and found painting to be great for calm mental stability as you said. You were one of my first online "painting coaches" and I still watch all your videos. I highly respect your ability and quality work you put into your videos and saying thank you for how you have shaped me as a miniature painter is an understatement. Thank you for all your hard work and good luck finishing up that army in 2026... ahem 2025 ;)

Wait, you aren't going to the models away because you didn't paint them in time? This is a game changer🤣. Seriously though, nice paint job on the Rogal Dorn.👍

Good idea for a tag video, new year new army.... it's not a 5 day challenge though, you had an entire year?🤔🤔

Always refreshing to hear the reality of the hobby for most of us folks. I am really trying to work on upping my 'painting to play' game as I have struggled with my mojo the last several months (hence no content). Great video, Lloyd. Love the colour scheme.

Life in the guard is though. If you're talking about waiting for the Codex to get a better list I can tell you one universal truth from getting my poor Cadians destroyed too many times to count... You need more infantry for screening. You'll need some of those super tough deathkorps boys to protect your tanks. My current guard list has 120 infantry bodies and that's not unusual. If you want to go mechanised you can substitute infantry for Chimaeras which is super strong at the moment. When I started my guard army in eighth edition I made my own custom grey camo scheme. It looked really cool but took ages to paint, when I realised just how many miniatures I would need for a good army, I switched to the classic Cadian under dry brush, quick and dirty Sonic sledgehammer paint recipe. Because on top of everything else, all the different weapon options are crazy, I've got mortars, auto cannons, heavy bolters, lascannons, and loads of the special weapons all in reserve. It's crazy how every different loadout has been really viable at some stage in the past seven years. At the moment you want flamers which is crazy! Having the Catachan profile has been clutch with the index for forward deployment. I run six chimeras so that's been an extra 12 flamer infantryman I painted up for 10th. My personal technique for hobby motivation is to just make sure I have some primed models on my desk with all the gear out, so I do a little every day. But it's apples and oranges because I don't paint to your standard.
@ThePaintingCoachАй бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I'm thinking it definitely needs more bodies! Also hoping that I can run an all tank list and a combined arms force in the new dex
@dannyhalas9408Ай бұрын
@@ThePaintingCoach You can now... But it's not great. You need more Objective control.. Maybe they'll be something for tread heads in the book. A steel legion combined force they do every edtion, it's a staple like green horde. You only need 50 to 60 guardsmen for something like that. The classic rule was ignoring -1 Ap on all vehicles. I wonder what they'll do this tome.
