I've been thinking about getting into Warhammer for a while, but while I liked the world of the old Warhammer Fantasy, its rules seemed a bit too complicated for me. Then they came out with Age of Sigmar, which is supposed to have really streamlined rules, but I hate the setting. Way too over the top fantastical, so the world is not believable. I've watched a number of these Middle-Earth videos now, and it seems like this may be the best of the worlds, having both a good rule set and a nice, grounded fantasy world. On top of that, you and others have said this is the best version of any of their games, which makes me, a Lord of the Rings fan, even happier. Thank you for the great video!

Wahoo 50th like!!! The first game of Middle-Earth I played was the "Attack the Farm" scenario from the old Battle Games magazine, which is Rohan vs Orc/Uruk raiders. I can't wait for this box set, already got my order in with my local store and also can't wait for the new film on the 13th.

This looks really cool and my wife will go insane if she sees them so I will need to hide your video from her or my purse will suffer greatly :) Seriously though! I do love the sculpts and of course Rohan is a favourite. I must admit I was a bit perturbed to see so few mounted troops for the army but with new sculpts it completely makes sense and I guess most Rohan collectors already have many cavalry models in their collections. The buildings look great and although I wasn't a big fan of the Wild Men, you have sold me on the new sculpts. If my wife gets her way then they will most likely be who I will be playing :) Thank you for the awesome review

I’m definitely looking forward to your promised videos on the characters and units as well as your views on the game itself. The only starter set I bought for MESBG - or LotRBG as it was then - was the original Fellowship of the Ring box. I collected the Battle Games in Middle Earth magazine until it ceased publication but it’s about time I got up to date with the system, I think.

Never played mesbg before and i love Rohan but i think ill start with moria because i already have the balrog painted as an art project and the battle for balins tomb which came with a troll and 12 goblins. No doubt I'll end up convincing myself to buy this box set eventually PS love the lord of the rings content and watch every video plus the oldworld

Proberly would work out expensive to build edoras from the kits as its easy to build a great hall from foamboard and balsa,i made a lookalike one and wall stockade and gatehouse and a couple of houses when the two towers came out,have eomers full erod of 120 mounted riders and have 90 finished as well as 20 of the playtest riders that were done for the studio in metal,once iv watched the 3 extended films over christmas again (ritual) ill paint some more lotr figures for january,feb and march,look forward to your progress with this,great vid.

I intend to get this box after I paint a bunch more mesbg miniatures. Currently I have this "at least one not too detailed model a day" thing going, today is day 15 and I have 17 models finished plus the 18th has most of the colours on. Now I'm painting up the uruk-hai siege troops (they have recently disappeared from GW's store, but I don't see the info that they were removed from the game). I do have a looooot of minis from the magazine that was coming out many years ago, including a bunch of the old Rohirrim. I will paint them as well and then bulk out that force with the new models :D. I will certainly leave a like under each of the videos as I want to see more mesbg on the channel. Event if I don't follow the tutorials to the letter, they certainly are an inspiration :)

I agree with your comments with one exception. The state of the art in plastic modeling when this came out was expensive and used different technologies to produce the figures, thus the monopose limited sculpts. I still have and enjoy mine and would not trade or eBay them! GW must use the same sculptors now as when they produced the ice skating berserkers. I mean, c’mon, look at the rear legs on some of those Dunlendings! Who runs like that? I wait with bated breath for your future videos on this. I think there has been more angst about them dropping figures and options than the changes they have made to the rules so am interested in your playtesting/playthrough videos! Did you get the Armies book?

The War of the Rohirrim anime is adapting the story of Helm Hammerhand... and making it about his previously unnamed daughter

@MediocreHobbies So the original story from the appendices: Helm Hammerhand and his sons fight a war against the Dunlendings, who receive aid from the Easterlings and the Corsairs of Umbar. Helm and his younger son Hama follow the Dunlendings back to Isengard but are routed and forced back into Helm's Deep (which would be renamed after him), which comes under a protracted siege resulting in both Helm's and Hama's deaths. While this is happening, Wulf leads a force to take Edoras, where Helm's eldest son, Haleth, was left in charge. The Dunlendings successfully take Edoras, slaying Haleth, and the survivors are forced to flee. Frealaf, Helm's nephew would get aid from Gondor and retake Edoras, driving the Dunlendings out and back across the river Isen. Frealaf would ascend to the throne, ending the first line of kings, and beginning the second. The War of the Rohirrim: Helm's daughter girlbosses it up, finds a long lost tribe of warrior women, and saves the day. This isn't a Tolkien story, nor is it a LotR story.

The new models feel a lot more AoS than MESBG. I think its gone more heroic proportions instead of the more subdued, realistic proportions of the Perry Twins

The choice to only have mounted heroes with all the rohan troops being on foot seems off. The series will have to do very well to make the Wildmen to be cared for too. It seems to be a miss.

Dumbing down the new edition and nuking factions is bad and unnecessary. I feel they’re trying to streamline and simplify a la AOS and 40K. I think they do they for tournament play and trying to get new players but to me it’s fairly boring. We can always play second edition!

@ Then come to the US man. I travel a lot for work and go to FLGS’s across the country. They all have entire walls full of TOW and I always ask, is anyone buying it, and none of them have good things to say. Not here to shit on it, and what I say is anecdotal but I’ve been in about 7-8 stores scattered across several states and I don’t hear that TOW being in stock is any problem.
