Again, you had me at The Beatles. You often talk about how young they look. When they recorded their first album in March of 1963 ("Please Please Me"), Ringo (the oldest) and John were 22, Paul was 20 (3 months shy of his 21st birthday) and George had just turned 20. When they recorded their final album in 1969, "Abbey Road," none of them had yet turned 30 years old. What they accomplished in those 7-1/2 years ... simply amazing. Thank you for this reaction.

Your talking about Ringo getting no respect is reminding me of an old skit from SNL (1980s, I think). They were auctioning off Beatles memorabilia (Paul toothbrish selling for $1M, etc). Then they offer Ringo for auction, making special note that he comes with rings so there's additional value. But bidders were not interersted. It was literally Ringo in the flesh, and it was hilarious. He's such a good sport.

As a child of the 60's, it should come as no surprise that we couldn't wait for the next Beatles single or album to come out. More so than any other group of the day. The great part was that they cranked out a lot of music to keep us very satisfied and kept us ever anticipating what was to come. All we knew was, whatever it would be, it would be great.

I do not remember The Beatles videos in America from the first few years. I’m sure Ed Sullivan must have played them when they were not live. When this came out, I was 7, 2 of my 3 sisters were totally obsessed by The Beatles, got every teen magazine they were on the cover, every 45 and album, saw at Shea Stadium Notice no mics or cords for the guitars ( pre wireless by almost 15 years. Ringo is such an underrated drummer. Partly because he liked to clown around, from the books, he was like that with no camera’s on him. And still like that. Ringo was the perfect drummer for the Beatles, the biggest rock/pop group ever.

As a drummer, the thing I've noticed about Ringo -- other than his incredible ability to serve the song rather than his ego -- is that he RARELY repeated his approach to a song. Listen to an album and from one song to the next, he's doing something different, something sometimes subtle, sometimes bold, but always just right to make the sound a little more interesting.

This song shows the brilliance of the Beatles style of making sunless things interesting. The lyric just says, "Baby's good to me. She's happy as can be." Not very interesting. But make it: Baby's good to me, you know, She's happy as can be, you know, She said so!" Much more interesting!

Even these earlier Beatles songs are like perfect jigsaw puzzles. Ringo is just incredible with this and it interplays so well with Paul's bass guitar line, but then again that guitar riff is counterpoint to even all of that, and it's what gives the song even more energy, and then of course you've got the vocals doing their dominant thing on top as well, including judicious but wonderful bursts of reinforcing harmony here and there.

When this came out in England on a Friday I went into to town to buy it when the music shop opened at 9 am. There was a queue, I was about twentieth in the queue. The record store had a stack of I Feel Fine on the counter and every body who went in bought the new Beatles single, like me. No other records were sold whilst I was there and by Sunday, two days later, it was Number One on the British charts, which were announced on the BBC on a programme called Pick of The Pops. I took it to a Christmas party the next day and boy was I popular...

So they just infiltrated the fabric of my being. And of course by early grade school, you have pretty good recall of lots of things and then the Beatles were even more prevalent. And that just continued. And then they stopped. And it was a huge deal across the world. But then we enjoyed their solo stuff. And then when I was a senior in high John got murdered. It was such a crazy roller coaster ride for a band, but their music is still so available today, and regardless, it's always in my head and in my heart. ❤

They filmed this video a year after they recorded the song - you can tell by their appearances. This would have been just before Rubber Soul was released. The TV show Top of the Pops was reviewing the best songs of the year and they did it for that show. I Feel Fine released in Nov. 1964 by The Beatles, is generally cited as the first use of feedback in a pop song; in this case, as an intro. In May 1965, The Who release Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere, another song using guitar feedback this time as part of the actual song embedded within the guitar solo. A gigantic step forward in artistic use and control over electronic sounds in pop. By the end of 1966, you get Jimi Hendrix in London re-imagining what guitar work in a pop song can mean.
