At the end of your life all that will matter is how well you loved and how kind you were to others. No one thinks about cleaning on their death bed.

I've been doing house and home since I was 12 years old. I'm 66 now, and I'm tired of it. As long as it's clean enough to be healthy and good enough to be happy. Good enough is good enough. You're too hard on yourself. I've learned you can dust today and tomorrow you can write your name in it again. It's never ending. Life's too short. I love to scrapbook but find I can't if my house is dirty. UGH!!! I'm still a work in progress. Love you and your channel. 😘

The disadvantage of living in a "sterilized" home is that you don't get to build up as many immunities. There are videos on YT showing how people live in other countries - very healthy people despite our Western ideas on cleanliness. "Good Enough" as someone mentioned, IS good enough! 😍

i decided a few months ago to take two coffee breaks and an hr. lunch break. I am retired but decided I needed this as if I had a full time job. I cook three meals per day from scratch almost everyday. Some days like today, just got back from doing some groceries, tired me out. So I will take all breaks at the same time and watch a movie. I might even nap a bit. I will be refreshed and have more energy to keep on going. and I only work until after dinner and my day is done. The evenings are mine and mine alone. no one would ever disturb my me time.. After dinner mom is off duty. Everyone can email me things they need for the next day. I might not read them until tomorrow. unless it is an emergency everything can be done later or tomorrow.

I can't do nearly as much as I used to, not just because of aging but also because of health issues. Most days, I'm lucky if i get the bare minimum done inside. Over the 34 years I've lived in my home, expanding the gardens constantly, I never once considered that someday, I would not be able to upkeep all of it. Between the house, the yard & the dogs, it's a juggling act with my limited energy & mobility. I need to prioritize like a diet or budget & use my little resources wisely. Obviously, moving is not an option right now. I also have a LOT of decluttering to do. It's depressing some days. I do feel bad when I need to rest & don't feel like I've even scratched the surface of what needs to be done.

Omgosh! My husband and I just talked about this. My husband and I are hard workers. We are retired now and I like it a lot when my husband is gone because then I don't feel "observed.". And I still work all the time but I don't feel judgment. My husband said he often feels guilty when he kicks back because I'm still working. This is all self-inflicted.

It’s not good to compare yourself to other people in general. There will always be someone with more money, more beauty, thinner, a nicer car, a nicer house, a bigger house, nicer things, a cleaner house. But when we look at what we do have, we need to realize that there is someone out there wishing they had what we have. There are enough things in this world that can make us feel lesser than. And with the way things can be manipulated on social media, we should understand that not everything or everyone we see on social media is exactly the way it is. A lot of it is fake. So take what we think, or what we see, or what we view, and realize how easily we can all be influenced by others. This is where critical thinking comes into play. Be happy to be living, for having a roof over our heads, for food on the table. To be able to pay our bills, and perhaps save some money. And stop comparing ourselves to others that seem to be more or have more than we do. Because it may not be real, it may not be true.

Grace! The word I'm using for myself and others. I can't do it all, and some of the things I do will be just good enough. I think we steal joy when we're too critical of ourselves. I try to be proud of the accomplishment, even if it could be better. I remember being praised for a job and then reminded of what would make it better. It ruined the moment. Allow the effort to be enough sometimes. Rest is important. I'm glad you're allowing yourself grace. Love to all, Linda 💕

I don’t work outside the home anymore due to injuries but when I worked 50-60 hours a week and had 3 boys and a husband … my secret to being successful at work AND at home was one word … DELEGATE. 😊 We can’t do it all. Kids at home should be learning how to cook and clean, and how to budget. As a kid, I was in charge of dusting and folding clothes and took turns with my brother doing the dishes. I helped my mom in the summer with gardening and my brother mowed the lawn. We didn’t have a lot of down time. I feel like people are taking too much down time now. Rest a little in the evening before bed. Enjoy a day on the weekend. We live among a big Amish community. You don’t seem them laying around. But they’re not running around either. Everyone in the family has a chore/jobs to do for the betterment of the family. We should be no different. I’m folding clothes while watching this video. 😊

I had a similar problem. It's really hard to let go of perfection. You mentioned a to do list in a different video and how you try to keep it small. You might want to double it. Got 3 maintenance tasks on it? Add 3 things that are for you. Schedule the time to learn a language or whatever interests you. These things are just as important to your well being as a freshly scrubbed stove. Utilize audio books and podcasts. There are free and low cost ones. They set your mind free while you do less satisfying tasks. When I die, I want my family to remember the things that were truly important about me, like my skills in the kitchen (one of my hobbies) and the fun board game nights not the state of the floorboards. I shoot for a clean house. Deffinitly not immaculate, we have 5 dogs, but clean enough to not feel embarrassment if someone dropped in unexpectedly. My husband calls it a jackass test. If someone notices the tufts of dog hair under the sofa they came to judge not to visit.

No one is perfect, so stop comparing yourself to ithers. You don't know where their shortcomings are and we all have them. After dinner is downtime. Enjoy your shows, movies, reading taking a walk. Whatever brings you joy. Life is too short, live it!! "The dishes will wait on the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait on the dishes." We are more than only work then die. You have my permission to "punch out" after dinner. ❤

My mom worked full time and would clean on the weekend the best she could. When she was done, she would say, "I gave it a lick and a promise." She knew it wasn't perfect, but it was good enough for a mom who worked full time. I still clean this way, and I'm thankful and satisfied when it's done. Sometimes, we let ambition be our god. It's good to rest and be thankful that we can.

the pressure that is put on women to do it all, work, maintain a house, budget, cook, shop, clean, YOU NEED TO BE SUPERWOMAN, we have to allow ourselves to BE HUMAN, we're not machines. Learning to enjoy some "me" time or down time is so important to our well being. Our moms didn't have many distractions, pulling at them in all directions. Dawn allow yourself to unwind, not to feel regret or guilt for reading a book, enjoying a chat with friends, youtube etc., you go non stop 24/7,

A teacher I had years ago said that women are stuffers. We tend to think that we can stuff that little activity in while we are on our way to the door to do something else, put the laundry away, wipe the counter, thaw the supper ingredients, check the mail. She's right. People in general have the idea that being productive is the be all and end all. Even God rested on the seventh day. The Bible doesn't tell us what He did on that day. Doesn't say that he picked up the week's accumulation of stuff to be put away, or planned the next week's activity schedule, or .................... Take a page out of His book and learn to give ourselves the much needed time to regroup and recuperate. Will likely be one of the most difficult tasks we ever take on. :)

I live on a little acreage (we call it our little farm) and this time of year, the work really is never done. I tell myself often (and remind my husband) that we do what we can and we do our best because it doesn't matter how much we push ourselves, there will always be more work outside. We just take the breaks as we can. I'm in my early 40's now but I decided years ago (probably in my late 20's) that I didn't want to spend all my entire life only working. Don't get me wrong, I work hard. But I also take time to be with my family, visit with friends, and do some of the hobbies I enjoy.

As we age we realize that "good" is good enough! You are right, our mother's focus was solely on the home and children. Unless we are living in a real pig sty, good enough cleaning is just fine. No one should be coming over running their white gloves over the tops of your doorways. I remember hearing that saying as a child. Everything had to be perfect. And, for whom? As long as your have a comfortable, cozy home, your family will be happy. Let that be your goal.

With my family, i was the youngest of 4 kids. And the only girl. I definitely was not spoiled. My oldest brother was 12 years old when i was born. And 6 years between me and the youngest boy. Ny mom sheltered me badly. She gad to pick cotton, haul water. Many other things. She was afraid of me using a stinking butter knife. She was always afraid that I would get hurt. I wanted to do things, you inow? She wouldn't let me go to my friends house or anything. They have all passed away. Im the only one left. It really feels weird. 😢 My marriage is so so. Since I'm disabled, things have gotten even more difficult. My house is full of clutter. My mind is full of clutter. Ive recently lost 60 pounds. Im trying to help wherever I can. I do surveys to make a little extra money. You dont get rich from those. But it adds up. Of course i make the yarn puppies. IMO I would call it “comparison mentality”. I think it’s the reason so many women have given themselves anxiety because they think they have to do it all and the fact is WE CANT. I have fallen prey to this a little. I can’t keep my house as clean as I want it since unfortunately I have to go to a J-O-B on top of life chores on my days off. Being a housewife would have been fulfilling to me.

I will be specific- the dust will be removed by someone it bothers. Life has taught me, harshly, recently, you MUST add recreation and relaxation to each day or your body will tell you. Then you are forced to recover by doing the things you wouldn’t allow yourself right now. Rest, relax and repair. It’s not easy at this end of it.

As I am listening to you right now I can say that I am a stay home wife . So I do not work outside the home so the home , paying bills , laundry , taking care of animals etc is my job. So that is why I honestly do not want to work outside the home unless it is volunteering. If I worked outside the house I know I would get annoyed that I can not keep the house as I want. So it is good to hear you say you are realizing you can not do it all. You can't. I understand feeling like your half doing everything but do not be so hard on yourself. I mean you have a choice. If you can stay home and want to then do that but if you need to work to bring in part of the income do not be so hard on yourself about not getting it all done. If you and your family can work a system at helping each other and certain things each of you does then it can help you not feel so guilty . I like to take care of our home and clean it and do laundry etc. Some woman do not want to be stay home wives. They would rather work outside the home. So then they get annoyed when things are not getting done. Just realize that if you prefer to work outside the home you can only do so much between that and your house. So do not be so hard on yourself.

I know a slightly above low middle income middle-aged couple (no children) who spoke to a church financial advisor for better investing. After much good advice, he ask what is your biggest issues/complaints as a couple? They both said house chores!!!! He said "Hire a housecleaner for a deep cleaning then once a week for a few hours!" He showed them in the budget where to find the money, and they said it's best money they'd ever spent.

I always make a list and if I don’t do it all that day, I just go back to it the next day. My list for today is: Clean out my car, clean out the litter box and clean out my tub. Have done 2 of the 3. Going to tackle the car, next.😫. As for cleaning the house, I do the bare basics, and have a girl come in once a month to deep clean.

You need to pick your top priorities and let the rest go. Your number one priority should be making memories with your family and friends. I don't remember most of the gifts but I remember the times at the park. I remember sitting with my mom watching clouds when she had dementia, walking the dogs at the park with my dad and husband, now ex. :)

That evening wind down is something that's commonly lacking nowadays. This has been a struggle for me as well but anxiety kinda forced me to make some changes for my own good. You have got to prioritize the bare bones stuff and be thankful if you accomplish that. The rest will still be there tomorrow and it may even be something you don't need to do or can simplify in some way.

Honestly housework never gets done. There is always something to do..always. I thought that as my children grew older my housework would be less...NoNo! I started focusing on decluttering, which has been a lot of work but highly satisfying. I always try to come back to my main focus and thats my health. Im 59 and i dont have any pre exsisting conditions...thank God but diabetes and high blood pressure run in my family...so its very important to keep my priorities in check. If im not well i wont be able to do housework among ither things that are important to me. Good day!

Dawn, you deserve to be coming home to a clean house and home cooked meal if there is someone at home who doesn’t have a job or is retired. Unless they are disabled to the point where they can’t even modify to help them cook and clean. Otherwise you will wear yourself out and become resentful .

I've given up! No matter how much I do, there's always something that can be done. We recently moved into a new home. I still haven't put all the stuff away and our garage is all boxes because I'm sentimental. Hopefully this summer when I'm not working I can concentrate on that area. My husband will help but he just doesn't know what I want to get rid of. 🤦🏼‍♀️

One thing that I have learned is to quit before becoming exhausted. If I do too much hard work on a Monday, I will lose most of Tuesday to recuperate. The days of working long hours and going to parties afterwards are over for me.

What I do is write out my work schedule then add tasks I need to fit into my day like laundry, bank deposit etc. Then I add one extra thing like call to make appointment, get car maintenance done, get a card to send etc. I clean up after myself. When my place needs a major cleaning I allot a weekend day for it. Works out pretty well. I tend to be very present minded so need this kind of system.

Oh man I'm right there with ya but lately I'm finding that I have zero energy after I get home after work but I am now taking an hour nap that helps tremendously. I get done what I get done when I get it done. Im taking a break from canning and gardening this year because I just can't. I've got neighbors that have well maintained yards because their retired and that's their " thing" but my yard is the sore thumb of the neighborhood lol and I'm ok with it cuz it will get done but on my schedule

To put it in it's short version...my mind is always going, on ideas for a room or what I want to do next because I'm board, I have older cook books I like to look through but there's a youtube video I have to watch and pintrest has captured my attention, my daughter sent me a video on face book now where has my hour gone. But it's if my house chores are done, so I don't feel bad. I just want all the ideas to come out and happen.
