I was raised by the "Greatest generation" by my biological mother's adopted parents raised me they were born in 1921 and 1924 .my biological parents were born in the baby boomers generation 1950 & 1955. I was born in the early 70's .I got raised different than people from my generation but i am glad that they raised me .I learned things that people my age never got to experience being raised by what was considered seniors back in the 70's and 80's .They were in there late 70's and early 80's when i was a teenager. They got to meet all of my children before they past.I miss them so very much. They were my parents in my book .

I've been following a low-carb diet for about 2 years. Cutting out the empty carbs-chips, pretzels, pasta, crackers, bread, etc.-has saved me a bunch of money. I haven't had beef for a long time. It's too expensive. I use mainly chicken, pork, and eggs for protein. I meal-plan and prep religiously. If I want a flavored drink, I brew my own tea. With bottled drinks, you're mostly paying for the packaging. A box of 24 family-size tea bags will make 6 gallons of tea. My store brand is $2.99/box, so that's $.50 per gallon. I've managed to cut my grocery budget from $125+ per week to about $75, despite inflation.

That's great Dawn, you can still keep within budget! I also stopped wasting money on food items that I know I will not enjoy and end up throwing out! Funny...cottage cheese is on my list too ! I stick to my $200 max a week-which includes all food & toiletries. As for bread, I buy 1 loaf a week-keep half out in a ziplock bag and freeze the rest. Keep up doing what works best for you!

Nothing is really going to happen unless you get your husband will work with you on this issue. How does he feel about it? Does he agree and just feels overwhelmed or has emotional attachment? Some people do find "stuff" around them comforting. If he agrees, I would start by bringing him a box or an item a day. I would start with the storage units currently in your home, closets, desks, cupboards etc. so you can clear them out to make room for things you actually use.A trick I use for nostalgic items is to take a picture of it so the memory is always there but not the item itself. Good luck.

From 2020 when it was 300€ a month to 400€ a month now. That’s for everything from the super: food, drink, toiletries, cleaning/laundry and bathroom products. We have no eating out budget so don’t. We have no more budget to raise it any further. I now shop very strategically.

Hubby does the grocery shopping and I almost feel I need to take that task over. He spent $214 this week on 2 people!! A lot was for my protein bars but I've got to learn how to make them from scratch.

I did not cook more than 2 meals in 17 years because my guy cooked everything for us.. In the last 3 years since he died things have changed a lot in my kitchen. I call myself a lazy cook. I batch cook and have meals in my freezer to just pull out and heat.. I do not have a microwave by choice.. I heat things up on my cook stove...no crockpot..

My "grocery" budget for just me also includes home goods and gasoline for my car .it's remained at $500/mo for 3 years. I learned to stock up on the items I use when on sale and I Learned to value and eat leftovers, and bring my lunch to work. I actually do like cottage cheese and spend the little extra to buy it in 4 ounce twin packs. It's my work breakfast after making my coffee at home. I haven't bought pop/soda in Years. I drink water in reusable containers throughout the workday.

I used to spend 200 dollars per month for just one person and the food would least the entire month. Now 200 dollars only covers 2 weeks still for only one person. I can't afford 400 dollars a month. It's very tough.

I enjoy cottage cheese, but I also don't eat it. I like it with just a little salt and pepper. I grew up eating it with Doritos.

My food budget is 3 to 400$. If we need Tp, washing detergent or dish soap that puts it up more. If I find good deals on meat I stock up so it can go to the 400 range. There are three adults living here.

Hi Dawn… you are blessing people by being honest with your situation. We all have struggles and many of us have way too much stuff it becomes overwhelming. This has encouraged me to start going through things and making an honest inventory of what I truly want and use.

I live alone so when buying produce I only buy 2-3 potatoes at at time or carrots, apples, etc. So very little waste. Also when I buy protein I immediately cut it to portion size so no waste and freeze the rest. I no longer buy any sweets from the grocery store - 99% of if has "HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP" that kills the liver and gave me Diabetes. I cleaned out my cupboards and lots 60 lbs in 4 months. I detoxed all that out of me. My Blood sugar dropped quickly to much better numbers. It is in Miracle Whip, Sausage, BBQ sauce, almost everything in a can or packaged. Now I make my own cookies or cake and regular sugar does not affect me.

I haven't spent more but I have a pantry filled with non perishable food and a freezer that is kept stocked. When I get bread I take out what I will use in two days and freeze the rest. Bagels are perfect for this. I keep them in the freezer. It takes 30 sec. in the microwave to defrost and then I toast it. My favorite since I was a child is braunshweiger on rye bread with a slice of red onion and mayonnaise. The cost is minimal at $2.50 for a 1 lb. hunk. My dad loved peanut butter and apple sandwiches. When I have extra apples I slice or dice and microwave them with cinnamon and brown sugar or make apple crisp. I make a lot of tuna and egg salad that goes on a bun or on a tomato. I don't drink or use much milk, so I bought a can of dry whole milk to use in recipes. The only way I like cottage cheese is with apple butter like the Amish. I also like it with a big spoonful of jam. I am not from the south but I like grits with eggs and cheese grits. I also make a lot of cornbread with buttermilk. The buttermilk lasts a long time past expiration and the same with yogurt. They only get more sour, but don't go bad.

The only way to stop this is to take the money out of the corps pockets by not buying or buying less until they get a clue outside of necessities. I refuse to pay some of the prices or at least I'll go for a few weeks before caving. It's my own protest. I just know 4 yrs ago food/gas/housing/meds/rates were far cheaper and no wars. I buy nothing I don't have to just to stand my ground of not being ripped off. But that's me.
