Speaking from experience 3D animation can be a nightmare. Especially if done from scratch. Now I use MMD rather than SFM but I tried doing it from scratch once and I gave up and just settled with using pre-made animations and crediting the original creators accordingly. Because they definitely deserve it.

yeah, thats helps in SFM as well. many creators post premade animations you can import from the workshop and other places like Deviantart. great help esp for tedious animations like walk cycles and stuff.

Level developer here. The "ent_fire" command has nothing to do with flames. Essentially, it fires an input on whatever entity you specify. In this case, he specifies every entity of type "env_lightglow", and gives it an input of "kill", which deletes it.
@TinyDeskEngineer2 жыл бұрын
*ent_fire* is a Source Engine console command which fires a certain input on a class of entities or a specific entity. *env_lightglow* is an entity class in all Source games that is responsible for the kind of round glow effect around stuff like lightbulbs. *kill* is an entity input available for most entities in the Source Engine, which removes the entity from the map. So basically, the whole command is "Go over all the glow effects in the map, and delete them"

Oh man. I've done some little SFM things in the past. WHEW! It's a thing. Yes. But it DID give me a great appreciation of animators. Both 3D and 2D. Though one small side effect is now I can NOT stop examining a character's walking animation when I'm watching something to see if the feet are sliding across the ground. Which they are 90% of the time. But I honestly can't blame animators for that. Trying to have a character walk without their feet having even a little slide, while still looking like they're moving across the scene naturally, is a NIGHTMARE! So I can forgive animators being a little "lazy" with it. Or even just setting the scene so that the feet are out of view. It also taught me just how important subtle movements are and how HARD it can be to make them. You can't just move and arm, you gotta have the upper body move slightly as well. But not too much, just a little. And when the upper body moves a little don't forget the lower body has to shift slightly as well. *Every* piece of the body has to move ever so slightly or it looks REALLY obvious when 1 piece is stock still in a scene. Slight breathing motions, gentle head movements. Eyes darting from subject to subject. Just SO MANY minor details you NEED to keep track of in order for the scene to not be jarring because your brain knows SOMETHING isn't moving. And again, it's supposed to be SUBTLE movements. You can't move it too much or it just looks comical. And finding just the right balance of subtle and natural looking can take so LONG just for a single few seconds GAAAAHH! And I too, know the pains of trying to do little effects or extra things in Sony Vegas or what ever program you use. Adding extra image layers, setting each thing frame by frame. Making sure the audio tracks are kept in alignment. Wondering why the audio for 1 single section is muted and where did I put the audio track oh God it was just herewherediditgoWHY?!!? But the hours of work IS worth it in the end as you know~

yeah, I found the subtle movement thing out during a few times i did frame for frame recreations of shots. my reference was animation, but even there in the shots i used there were tons of tiny movements that might only last a frame or two, so quick you might not even see them if you didn't look, but things seem off without them.

explanation on "spline curves". sfm has 2 modes you can use to edit stuff, the motion editor, and the graph editor. the graph editor uses "spline curves" to control things. literally just lines on a graph between 2 bookmarks. like, want to raise a hand? put the playhead at the time you want it to start, grab the hand and move it to the starting position. that creates a bookmark. move the playhead to WHEN you want it to end, then raise the hand to WHERE you want it to end. that makes a 2nd bookmark. and with the hand highlighted, you see a line going between the two marks (probably diagonally cause you raised the hand) in the graph. that line is the spline. straight line from one point to another showing the movement. BUT, it looks robotic. hand just starting and stopping dead. the trick is, you want to make the line "curve", kind of S shaped, to make it slowly start to move, then slow down as it comes to a stop. then have a slight overcorrect. a little bounce at the end as the hand goes slightly passed where you wanted it to stop before coming back and coming to a rest. all that makes it look more natural (raise your hand quickly and make it stop and notice how it goes passed a bit). the beauty is, SFM will do this automatically. hence why he said it can make animating easier. just add an additional bookmark before the starting point, and after the end point. suddenly, those straight lines have now magically become curved lines. IE "spline curved". ofcourse, SFM also overcorrects a bit TOO much by default, hence the back breaking you saw. but its easy enough to adjust the curve to reduce that. they become even bigger helps when you start chaining movements together. positions just flow from one to another.

SO up next should be Sniper, which is yet another great one. Also Earthbound(also known as Mother 2 in it's home country of Japan) is a Super Nintendo RPG game from the 90's that while didn't sell well at the time has gotten a full on cult fallowing of fans thanks to the internet in general as well as things like reviewers, animators and musicians. If you want to learn more about it and the series its from you should check out Did you Know Gaming's videos on them.

"ent_fire env_lightglow kill" I believe this means that a Source engine entity called "env_lightglow" (which I assume has something to do with environmental lighting) was causing the glitch. IIRC "ent_fire" is a console command to execute entity input commands such as "kill", which removes the entity from the map, so the command removes the env_lightglow completely. Edit: I looked it up on the valve developer wiki. Apparently typing "ent_fire !player kill" with server cheats on will straight up crash the game...

Hey Duck I was wondering, if you are playing HALO infinite, why don't you upload it to the gaming channel instead of this one? I mean, that way you can still bring some life to that channel while you are still collecting TF2 footage on your streams, in fact, I think it would be nice if you reupload your Lara Croft videos in that channel too. Not trying to be rude or obligating you to do anything, I don't know how much time you would need to do so, I was just thinking that it would be the best for both of your channels to focus the gaming content specifically to your gaming channel, like, to have all your content ordered in their specific libraries instead of them being sort of mixed, so the people that wants reaction content get only reactions content in this channel and the people that want only gaming content get their respective content in the respective place. Now that you have a third channel, having everything ordered in their respective channels is something that, I believe, will be even more important than it was before. I also know that having mixed content in one channel lowers the "relevance" that the youtube algorithm sees in that channel. It is that because the algorithm doesn't recognize what is the specific content that you make and therefore doesnt recognize to what type of specific public it needs to be recomended, lowering the max potential of views that your channel could get. That's all I wanted to say, hope that you can at least consider my advice :)
