Tim Minchin doesn't disappoint with his musical and comedic abilities. In this song "Lullaby" he does a perfect job at encapsulating how I feel sometimes as a parent.
It's hard and I love my babies, but this song hit different for me! Let me know what you thought below and let's share some parenting stories!

Tim does a comedy piece on stage where he talks about his wife's dark humour, and how he wants to go check on the baby one night and she says no, coz if she's dead we might as well at least enjoy the end of the movie before we find out. 😂

For context the dingo reference originated from a event that happened here in Australia in the 80s. A family while camping had their baby disappear and they claimed a dingo came and took their baby. They faced scrutiny by the Australian public for years with many believing they murdered their own child and I believe they were even convicted, until many years later evidence was shown to indicate that yes, a dingo likely DID take/kill their child. The mother's name was Lindy chamberlain if you would like to look up more info on the story.

Lindy Chamberlain spent 3 years in jail and that was one of our worst examples of "Trial by media" with the case creating more dingo "Experts" than could ever be produced from all the universities of the world combined!

_They faced scrutiny by the Australian public for years_ Not just the Australian public, it became a global media circus, and Lindy Chamberlain was ridiculed and denigrated around the world to the point where "a dingo ate my baby!" became a universal punchline to jokes about trying to avoid responsibility. After she was pardoned and released from prison there was a pretty good movie about the whole thing in 1988, A Cry In The Dark, that got Meryl Streep a Best Actress award at Cannes for playing Lindy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5e4q4WpbKyMnK8
@xymonau2468

That terrible line made into mockery must stab at Lindy's heart. She was set up by police, unqualified forensic people were brought in. Even a Scotsman who had never seen a dingo in his life claimed a dingo couldn't possibly take a baby by the head - which, of course, it can do easily, and DID. Every person in the campground that night knew she was innocent, and said so. The "evidence" in her trial was so obviously ridiculous that I was completely shocked when they convicted her. One of the jurors apologised to her after and said they were influenced by the media. She forgave them. She was never allowed to grieve her six week old daughter's horrific death, and then she was pregnant when imprisoned, and the baby had to go to her husband, and her church members helped him with the kids. When she got out, she had to regain the family. In the meantime her husband had slept with another woman, and they divorced. Not only did they suffer, their children had to go through it all.

Antihistamines are commonly given to babies to help them sleep! You’ve just learned that some of Tim’s stuff is simply pure comedic!! Everyone has their favourites! Confession and Dark side are my favourites by far along with Thank you God and Storm! Mainly because most of these have “deep” meanings and are more intellectually challenging/thought provoking. Lullaby is a good laugh though especially for us parents! Thanks for another great reaction mate.

I have been suggesting this far and wide as it is my favourite Tim Minchin song. The lyrics and the brilliant piano that escalates exactly as a parent’s anxiety escalates to the frenzy of frustration where we start to have wicked thoughts we know we won’t action then suddenly dissipates when they finally settle. It’s a brilliant song from a brilliant performer.

This man is a fucking gift! And yeah, he's still working, he's actually just recently-ish had a song come out called Lonely Tonight (which is just beautiful) and a little while ago had a hella funny (maybe just from an Aussie perspective, though) track come out called House Fyre as a collab with Briggs. He's a bit more active in musical theatre, though at the moment I think? A few that I'd highly suggest you check out would be You Grew On Me, If I Didn't Have You, Thank You God, The Pope Song, Cont (if you can find it), White Wine In The Sun, Not Perfect, and the aforementioned Lonely Tonight and House Fyre. Fun fact: apparently Bo Burnham has cited Tim as one of his major influences.

It might be worth listening again, and concentrating on the accompanying musical composition. A musically literate friend has described it as like a 3 Stooges skit, with the parts of the orchestra moving at apparent cross purposes, but never truly chaotic and discordant, more and more rapidly reaching the coordinated end. An auditory rule-breaking, like the filmic rule-breaking of tilted camera angles and warped perspectives, to indicate someone's insanity. Minchin's music has as many references and playful twists on tradition as does his poetry. The depth of his talent in some ways shows more in his lighter pieces than serious pieces, because our analytic skills are not so hobbled by our emotions. This piece dances the knife edge between light and dark, so might have distracted viewers from the composition.

Thank you for being honest. There is no shame in vulnerability, we're flawed creatures, constantly trying to balance base instinct with the understanding evolution grants us.

Have you heard of Dan Bull? If not, I would love to see you react to him. He's a British rapper, doing mostly video game raps. I would recommend his Civilization epic rap or South Park Stick of Truth rap.

I don't know if you have seen this, really ties in to the whole tired parents thing. And Catherine Tate is a legend, especially Nan. Enjoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4CTh6muib2gr7M

I'm really surprised that nobody has questioned the line about singing "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da in the exact voice of Ringo", a reference to an old Beatles song from 1967.

I found this video because I was looking for reactions to Tim Minchin. I would really like to see you react to a music group called Jinjer. They have a song called Pisces I HIGHLY recommend. Anyway, interesting reaction. Not subscribed yet, we will see how you react to Jinjer.

Yup, hilarious, but pretty straight forward (apart from the epic music). Every parent knows. I guess there might be a twist on the final line... we love our kids more as they grow, which is also closer to looking dead via old age. Y'know, in case you have to flip the explanation to avoid sounding like a psycho dad to an 8 yr old. Also, I'm hoping you figured out how to blur your playback so you can do some Bo Burnham.

Didn't realize I'd need to blur his videos. I just finished editing one, I'll have to go back and adjust the playback
