This is my reaction to Lullaby by Tim Minchin. A video that was highly requested on my previous Tim Minchin reactions. This is hugely relatable, being the father of a 3 year old with another one on the way in January. I think any parent will be able to relate to the words in this performance haha. As always, Tim put it across in a very funny with some great lines. Thanks again for the recommendations and tell me what you would like to see me react to next. Thanks!!

I love how the orchestra starts off sweet and lilting and discreetly begins to descend into madness.

Yes that is correct. I thought it was getting more intense. I have definitely mentally felt how that orchestra played on days with my son.

My sister-in-law reckons the best bit of advice she got from a paediatrician was "It is perfectly normal to want to throw your child out a window at least once a day. It is not normal to do so!". Pretty much what Tim is saying in his lullaby 🙂

With my first child, the lack of sleep made me feel like I wasn't sure what was real anymore. It really can be tough. Love my kids to bits though. And yes, I was told to eat all the food on my plate because people were starving in Afrika

Mr. Minchin is a fantastic pianist and even better lyricist. Extremely clever man. Check out his address to a graduating class of the university of western Australia. Funny but sound advice. Great reaction!

This is what comedians do take real situations to the extreme and make us laugh when we know we shouldn’t! Parents going through this must think “Oh well maybe I’m not that bad after all” Tim is hilarious and an incredible pianist! I loved all your reactions 😂

Yesss mate this is exactly it. I remember someone said he had two songs for his kids and that either one or two of them were serious so I just thought this was one of those. And with the way it started that's what I thought but not for the first time I was thrown by the switch in the middle of the song haha

Very relatable I remember times thinking if this kid doesn’t shut up I’ll throw her across the room !! Not that I ever did or would, but when you’re sleep deprived and hormonal it’s easy to let your emotions take over and this is why it’s important to surround ourselves with support people- partners, parents or friends.

I loved this the minute I heard it years ago. Was hoping you'd do a reaction to it. I have 3 grown up kids, 2 of whom have kids of their own now and, yes, we can all have a laugh and relate. Maybe our thoughts weren't quite as extreme as this but he always writes songs to make you think and that have the impact to make people think.

Great reaction, again. I think this song is a wonderful relief, for the typical parent who has gone through a time like this, and might have experienced thoughts... By Tim exaggerating them so brilliantly and almost poetically, hopefully they can look back and laugh and say "it's not just me..." My next suggestion is a serious one that is almost the direct opposite in style... "Drowned". It's short, depressing, simple yet strangely beautiful, and I think everyone has either had a love like that, or knows someone..
@MertAus
@MertAus Жыл бұрын
Yes for sure, you make a great point. It is actually comforting to hear someone else describe those emotions. I can really relate to them. Ok nice, will check out Drowned soon thanks
@BillTheScribe
@BillTheScribe Жыл бұрын
You need to follow this up with the long version of "If Didn't Have You." The song doesn't really relate to this, but there's a little monologue at the end that ties in perfectly. His more serious songs are like the start of this one, but they keep that tone all the way through. The transition is "Not Perfect," "White Wine in the Sun" (save that one for Christmas), and "Beauty"

Surprised it hasnt already been pointed out yet, but this is the song he wrote for his second child. His first was apparently a darling and a great sleeper, and he wrote White Wine in the Sun for her. The second screamed constantly, he went a little mad and wrote this.

What makes me laugh is that this went straight to air in Australia, and the fact that he sang “in a hope a dingo will rip off your fat b*tching head” is actually a true story about the “dingo stole my baby” line that foreigners like to repeat in an Aussie accent. If that doesn’t show how much you can get away with on Aussie television, I don’t know what does 😂

This is what really great comedy can do, cut right through. Now there very probably will be dozens of keyboard warriors screaming vile! crass! and who knows what else but at the same time there will be millions upon millions of parents across the globe who’ll be screaming YES! YES!, he gets it! For them Tim has just perfectly illustrated the countless times their children have driven them to despair. For these short few minutes this will be like a release valve has just blown!! That is what great comedy can do and should be doing, it shouldn’t be handcuffed and smothered by the PC police, truth shouldn’t be sacrificed on the altar of NICE, we all at some point need that release valve! 😊

You didn't need to pause it every few seconds to explain what the song was about. It's blatantly obvious what the song's about. I understand that you're going to pause but such frequent pausing just kills the flow of a song, both for you and for anyone new to it. Try pausing a little less and save most of your analysis for the end. Especially when you're essentially repeating the same thing at each pause. Rewinding a couple of seconds, after a pause, helps too, by ensuring that you and your viewers don't miss anything. That way both you and your viewers are likely to appreciate and enjoy songs a lot more... Apart from that, great reaction! That last was genuine btw, not sarcasm. :)
