I personally think the only issue was that your approach was in a bouncy sj canter, instead of a nice forward rhythm for cc, maybe take her on the farm ride for schooling in forward rhythm until you both build up your confidence again! She's got plenty of scope and impulsion, just needs to channel it all xx

You rode her so well considering how she was acting. I had a mare like that and it's so difficult to ride. 😁 Cody os such a beautiful and talented girl and you two have come so far. I'm excited for your future together. Great job and stay brave! 🤣😍

You’re very collected 😅 maybe with a bit more of a forward rhythm the jumping would be less explosive but that’s just how I ride Xc I find if I over collect I always get deep. Lovely facilities.

My pony has done XC before but NOTHING like this 😮 Wonderful riding!

I think you handled both of your nerves well. Times of more and less shitty riding is what we do, figuratively and metaphorically. Being self critical is also good in the sense that we always stride to become better riders and horsepeople even if we sometimes lose our confidence when we need it the least lol. I tend to fall in the same pitfall of collecting too much and then picking around with my strides like a crazy person when I can't find *THE* stride or lose my seat in the process, at least I have funny videos to watch back in my better moments haha! It's scary to let lgo forward when you got so much power and scope underneath you even when that's exactly what you gotta do. It's always a safe bet when you're doubting yourself to step back and make it fun and undemanding for a little bit, especially if it's something you know you can do when the confidence comes back. Gives both you and the pon a bit of a reset and foundation to work from the next time you hit a roadblock.

Your horse is well is well trained. It stopped straight away when you came off.

Never mind, perhaps aiming too high too soon, maybe a xc lesson to get the basics and confidence back may be a good idea x

Completely feel the same sometimes with my boy! It is hard to train them yourselves whilst at the same time learning. Especially when they throw shapes! They don’t always give easy rides and I know exactly what you mean as I’m also very hard on myself regarding my riding sometimes. But these young/green horses don’t always make it easy. You’re doing amazing though ❤

She is epic and so scopey. This horse needs all you can give her. Open her up, allow her to sort things. And who is your coach? Ok you’ve asked honest appraisal. That horse is over bent in the canter due to trying to contain her. That created very very rigid hands. She hates being contained and I’m not sure she’s totally happy in that bit but I’d like to see her go in it in a xc canter. So I personally think your your take on it is spot on. We all have days like this we learn from this. If I’d had her that day I’d have gone round and round the outside in xc canter turned in and taken a fence however, gone on again before turning in to pop. It seems we all get a bits control freaky instead of allowing our horses to sort it out as we just sit with them. Best of luck. She really is rather stunning and still very young.

In my experience, some horses do just enjoy jumping much more when its fast and chaotic 😂 you rode amazingly though, much better than I would have for sure!

You rode really well considering everything that's going on! As you said in the video sometimes you just have to take things back, always listen to your horse and if on a particular day that's what they need there is no shame in doing that at all. Well done x

I had the same mistake at a comp, I saw a different stride than my horse. Nice to see I’m not the only one. You rode well, we always have things to fix ..

you rode so well! i find it so hard to properly fold and like give w my hands when i feel like the horse is gonna bolt off with me after and even if i know what im doing its so hard to fix because like my subcontious just tells me to pull so maybe thats why you were struggling

I’ve been there - first xc practice of the season & I was hoping to step up to 100 (therefore put unnecessary pressure on myself) & I didn’t ride nearly as well as I usually do …. 2/3 years on I’ve since learnt that the 1st xc practice of the year is just to have abit of fun & a play 🤷🏼‍♀️ Think you rode well considering she had quite a jump on her 👍🏼

Although it may be hard, I think you have to let her go slightly more over the fences, I think you can see in the video it doesn't look as bad as it probably felt which is almost always the way when I look back at stuff as well. You have a lovely seat and gentle nature.

Typical mare, feisty and sassy😄, but what a beautiful talented mare you have. Scope to burn! Hard to get a more open, forward, balanced canter when they are in that frame of mind. Sure she will settle with a few more xc outings. So jealous, wish I had a venue this fab near by.

Oh my - we seriously need to learn to let go of the reins when we fall off. I do the same for some reason. If we did not do it, we would smash our head to the ground i bet...

She would find it a lot easier to jump them with a more forward canter, rather than a collected sj canter

You are a very accomplished rider and did a great job...considering how things were going. Maybe a long gallop to tire her out ?

You rode great considering everything but I think you should maybe try to stop holding her back and just let her go before the jumps.
