Bharathiraja,balumahendra were trend setters..bharathiraja gave 9 silver jubilees continuously without any big starcast...they broke lengthy dialogues and made impact by silent shots...Maniratnam is run out of ideas because he copies most english movies...Nayagan was inspired from english movie godfather ...Mario puso's novel...thalapathy ulta of epic karnan..Though youngsters are fond of maniratnam they should also watch bharathiraja and balu mahendra movies..They have much more to learn from their movies..

YES you should be ashamed Bharathiraja. Look at movies you took and Mani Rathnam took he wrote good stories and made box office hits not like you Balachandar, Bhaghiyaraj all picked "women subject" showing them as they have filthy mind, exposing their body making them wear inappropriate clothes and so on ..... your mom is women, your sister is women, your daughter is women -- still you guys show women as "item" and sold movies and made money --- no wonder most producers go in poverty -- "pen pavam summa vidathu" -- you guys spoil entire generation for 20 years or more -- because of watching your movies every Tamil Nadu men thought all 100% women fall under that category of your characterization of women in movies and the respect for women was gone ... can't go by bus, alone in train, or do anything .... Nayagan was not from Varatha Raja Muthaliar Story. The actual story came from "Al Capone" which became the "God father" .That film won many awards for Marlon Brando. During Nayagan came media was not wide enough for people to realize the real story came from Hollywood. I can prove Nayagan's every single scene was copied from that Hollywood movie. Many mani Ratnam's stories came from different older movies or English stories. Pagal nilavu and Idhaya kovil and Alai Paayudhe Agni Natchathiram were the exceptions and they were his own stories. He didn't have good screen play in any of his movies.. That's the reason he couldn't continue his success. If anyone challenge my statement I can give examples. Mani Ratnam wasn't a good director he was a businessman. He can never succeed.
