I filled my paraglider with HELIUM and flew it!

My wing is quite skinny; there's probably enough volume inside a regular paraglider to fill it and float it ... but then you'd have trouble choosing your moment to launch!

Use the left over helium to cool down an electric paramotor motor so that it goes superconducting. Tricky to liquify it beforehand though.

That was fun! It got me back to thinking about wing momentum, which I believe exists because air weighs about 1kg/m3, thus a 3 cubic meter enclosure would weigh around 3kg (not including the weight of the actual wing). Now the wing moving over you has momentum from that 3kg which must be countered to stop the motion! Just think of a 3kg weight swinging on the end of a string and how would you stop it? Change the pivot position of course. Food for thought next time you're kiting :)

As a side note, the result of your calculation that the volume inside of your glider is 3 square meters shows the danger of landing in water. If the glider fills up, you are now strapped to 3 tons of water. Other than that, fun video! :)

I mean it's quite clear that it won't lift you off when standing. But when flying with an airfoil that is designed to create lift when flying I asked myself how helium would change the glide ratio in neutral conditions (no lifting, no sinking air mass). If the wing would be completely sealed so helium couldn't get out you could also pump the helium inside of the wing when above you, and since it's lighter than air it wouldn't get out of the wing tips (as long as you don't pitch or roll too much xD) But on the other hand because of the wing shape the helium would probably deform the wing by so much so the benefit of the helium would be null or even worse :D So in the end it might be easier to just get more lift by not filling your drinking bladder and flying naked.

I tried this with a small toy wing (about a meter wide) I used condoms as the gas balloons. I needed smaller ones for the rips so I went to sex shop and asked for 6 extra small condoms. When I went to pay with my CC, they told me they need cash for transactions under $10. So I was hunting around in my wallet, and the bloke behind the counter looked at me with pity and gave them for free. It was pretty funny
