someone did try it in the Mojave but you have to get clearance from the FAA Larry did not get clearance and he drifted up to 16,000 feet before an FAA spotter plane caught him and he went down in the power lines in San Pedro and landed up with a $5,000 fine for flying a balloon without a licence

the story happened but it didnt go exactly like that. The guy wanted to become a pilot but he had eye problems so he decided to build his own device. He didn't lose the gun but it broke. And he landed on an airport. It was lucky that his gun broke because he wanted to pop another baloon but if he did so he would of gun down to fast
