Throwing out the Quentin Miller situation, Drake has made songs that are on albums that have been streamed billions of times which makes it mainstream while Kendrick has taken his time to release cohesive albums about various topics that are sonically pleasing, lyrically great, and it tells a story that stays in line with the greater plot of the album. If I’m overgeneralizing, the difference between a Drake and Kendrick is one has more catchy songs that we love to play over and over again and the other has songs that tell us stories that cause of to think and truly appreciate the art of rapping.

As a music reviewer, it’s Fantano’s responsibility to compare previous projects for artists in order to see if the are evolving their craft. If the artist isn’t evolving their craft then they are either A) regressing or B) being stagnant. Both options will coerce the score of the album in negative manner

But every album since more life and some songs on albums before that, he does seem like he’s comfortable. He knows what he needs to do to get to the end of the song and make a check.
