Alpha Centauri lol a swing and a miss. You almost had a good comment until you compared a General to a Scientist. If you think studying a particular molecule or form of aquatic life is more intense, takes greater skill, or is just generally on a higher level than leading countless men and women in defense of their country or in the pursuit of an equally massive enemy force, then your perspective isn’t as large or open as it should be to compare the two roles. Both useful and necessary roles, but not equal nor even close to being equal by any standard.
@drowningdaydreamspoolservi60605 жыл бұрын
Kyle Weber Swing and a miss ( because we’re not playing baseball anymore) you almost made a good comment until you compared the United States with a nation, by the very definition a nation its required to consist of a stable community of people, formed on the basis of a common language, territory, history, ethnicity, or psychological make-up manifested in a common culture. as a homogeneous people with a shared culture and shared values and social mores under one governmental structure that does not seek to exist in competition from any other group. You have almost none of those things.... what’s your ethical sense of honor rooted in except blind allegiance to a system and nation that may or may not have been around and working somewhat as intended to the benefit of your grandfathers (arguably more likely your great grandfather) interests? Certainly not yours on any meaningful level.
@LawGremlin5 жыл бұрын
@I Karate Kick Amongst You I’m confused. I don’t think any of your comments were replies to mine. Either that, or you must be having the other half of the conversation with yourself?

General Mook had a sister company to the one I was assigned , both of them part of Colonel Hackworths' 4th battalion of the 39th infantry regiment, 9th Infantry Division. Hack and Mook were / are wonderful leaders and eventually trusted and beloved friends. I was badly hurt by the passing of Hack back in '05 and we almost lost Mook a few years ago. I was devastated when I arrived at the 9th Div HQ as the 4/39 was a WRECK! I was RA, airborne infantry, and fouled paperwork kept me out of Benning and Bragg, and I was as far from my dream as was possible! BUT men like Hack and Mook changed all that and I could not be more satisfied and proud of my service in the presence and under the command of these and other good men and remarkable warriors!! The process of constructing Hacks' "Steel My Soldiers Hearts" was simply off the charts emotionally and that buzz has yet to totally subside. Great to see Mook on the podcast!!!

What an amazing man!! I recall calling Mook while he was in the midst of his acute medical conditions, and all told he dodged several large caliber rounds when his heart stopped working thereby causing his kidneys to fail etc etc.. The human body does not like those conditions as a cascade of very serious events can easily bring on a terminal event. Now, to see him back standing tall, looking great and as in command as ever, it is apparent that the Good Lord has plans for him!! Thanks for all you do Mook, and blessings all around you! Moral Courage … MG Mukoyama lived it. He learned it from a legend, Col. D Hackworth. I’ve got a hand written card Hack sent me after I read About Face as a 19 year old ROTC cadet in ‘89. He helped to shape my leadership style. Great interview. I know this is a few years old but would love to hear some more interviews with people who had served with Hack and are discussed in his book.

Mukoyama an assignment shows they cared more about their own agenda than they did for our guys that were fighting on the front lines, in other words, the grunts and that is what happened in Vietnam! this man was and is a great asset to our military and to our country and it is a real shame he was treated the way he was but as Jocko just said he is still helping our soldiers both active an inactive! thank you Gen. Jockos art of the conversation is beautiful. He controls the tempo, lends credibility and relates in a way to help these men really open up, in a way only vets can. In June or July of 2001, I flew into BWI and took a train to Union Station to visit family. One objective was to see the United States Postal Museum and a collection of artifacts from the detention camps. When I left the shock of what I saw before the train stopped to when I emerged into the Gleaming facade Of DC there was the USPS museum. What an amazing exhibition it was heart wrenching. Plus the rest of the history of USPS especially air mail just crazy. I am so grateful I was a able to see the detention exhibit....
