Thanks for always watching! Things are starting to free up a bit, so hopefully can get them out a little more regular!

I know these are a lot of work and I enjoy them. I'm looking forward to the remainder of your trans Atlantic series.

I appreciate you watching! This particular one was difficult because of the audio difficulties. But I think it came out decent. Hopefully we can get the next one out quickly!

Always a pleasure to fly with you, Wally. Nothing to find fault with... good job of hand flying the approach. Interesting 'rise' on the approach to the runway. It seems like your sink rate suddenly increased, then I figured out what the terrain/runway was doing.

I appreciate you! Yes, it was a weird optical illusion that I actually commented on, and you'll see it again on our way back when Jeff was in the left seat.

@@AccidentalAviator Wally, if you ever landed on Catalina Island Airport, that airport (about 3,000 feet or so) has a bluff approach on each end, and a distinct Hump in the middle. Knowing there's a dropoff on the departure end, and not being able to see over the hump, a LOT of pilots lock the brakes, trying to get stopped, when they still have half a runway left. I always laughed, and thought... "I wish I had the airplane tire concession here, to replace the mains on the planes that locked'em up...."

@@carlmclelland7624 I've always wanted to land there. Maybe at some point I'll get my Arrow out there! I've landed at Mountain Air out north of Ashville. That' a 2900 foot runway up in the mountains and kind of the same situation.

If I’m not mistaken in order for it to switch from magenta to green needles you have to have selected APR on the AFCS. Question: do you have nexrad over there and if so I assume you have to add something to your subscription. Enjoyed the ride along and education. Maybe some day I’ll go across the pond!
@AccidentalAviator2 күн бұрын
Welcome back Pete! Yes, you are correct. you need to be in APR mode (which had hit a long way out when they cleared is direct to MIKVU and cleared us for the approach). You also have to intercept the localizer at one fix prior to the FAF either on one of the transition/feeder routes or on a 30 degree (or less) angle to the inbound course. I think there might be other stipulations too, but I'd have to look those up. You just always need to be ready to either just activate vectors to final or flip the source in the PFD.

Also, no for NEXRAD. Once we got out of the United States and into Canada, we lost NEXRAD after a while. We did have CONNEXT weather over in Europe though, so that was a nice Bonus. I think I do wind up showing what that is on one of my flights.
@AccidentalAviator2 күн бұрын
The CONNEXT gave us NEXRAD type radar everywhere in Europe except Iceland and Greenland (I believe). It did give us METARs and TAFs everywhere though, cause you can see us grab the METAR at Reykjavik in the video.

@ is that a Garmin paid service? I think I had a trial if that’s what I’m thinking it is.
@AccidentalAviator2 күн бұрын
@@ProPilotPete Yes. I believe it's pretty cheap and comes with the ability to text from the cockpit. I think it's part of the Satellite phone service. I'll have to look it up to see what we pay. Well worth the money. I use it a lot outside of the USA (Caribbean / Canada). It gives you Satellite / cloud coverage in most places too, which you can usually tell what's good and bad by the color of the painted clouds.
