I participated in a test session of this game in late alpha. Of our group of 10 people, everyone complained that the controls were terrible. There was one woman who had to leave the paid testing sessions because she had so little control, she couldn't play the game let alone test it. All the testers agreed the game looked amazing, we all wanted to ride on dragons and breathe fire but we couldn't because no one could control their character. The game shipped in the same state we tested it in.

I'm noticing a pattern with them. They both have the protagonist start off with the "bad guys" and as soon as you joined the "good guys" the difficulty ramps up. The early 360 exclusives were also kind of weird but they aged a lot better in my opinion if you like weird games.

I still love this game besides the fact that it is very, very rough around the edges. I feel it did capture the chaos of a battle raging simultaneously in the air, land and water, as well as the visceral brutality and speed of the dragons fighting each other. I stuck with it and got quite good at the analog controls purely because I love dragons. I remember playing Dragon Rage on the PS2 and how unclear the objectives were in that game as well (and it just overall not being very good). I keep hoping that some developer will re-visit this idea but I don’t think it will happen sadly.
@theebigbam Жыл бұрын
I played it last year for the first time with analog controls on. Honestly it can be real good in its best moments, I particularly remember the assault on the big fortress at night at the 4-5th chapter being quite impressive. But the objectives can get weirdly obtuse later on and the frame rate issues just keeps getting worse, so I only got halfway through. Even with the analog controls there are still many actions that can be frustrating to do. Also, check out the game's soundtrack, it's very underrated IMO.

Find it funny and sad that Nintendo and Miyamoto themselves started this error a few years later with the controls. Reminds me of the Star Fox game for the WiiU, which I also own. The game also went through development hell and the studio was even changed or another one was brought in, believe Platinum Games so that a working game can come onto the market at all. Unfortunately, Miyamoto had the last word on development and he really wanted to use the Wiiu gamepad and show how great the Wiiu gamepad is and how it beats the competition and no other developer really understood the pad's functions. Therefore, the Star Fox game was not allowed to be played with the Pro Controller or normally with the gamepad. What came out of it was just terrible and ultimately killed the game and probably the franchise. to this day he says that no one has understood how good the gamepad and controls from star fox were for the wiiu. So much for the subject understand the customer and give the customer what you want as the customer is king

If you change the PS3's resolution to 720p you'll get a better fps. If it's at 1080p you'll get worse performance. Most PS3 games are 1080p upscaled. Only a few PS3 games were 1080p native. The game has some free dlc also on the PS3 store. Also switch the PS3's resolution to 720p you'll get a better experience from Lair as the fps will be more stable. Having your PS3 at 1080p doesn't benefit you for the vast majority of games, you'll only get a worse framerate. Only a few PS3 games were 1080p native. It's best to set the PS3 to 720p.

I completed this game with the Sixaxis (without the patch) and this is one of the games that I urgently wanted to succeed because I adored the whole game, concept, graphics, music etc. from the beginning on. The devs originally planned to do an open world game but Sony for some reason forced them to do a more linear style game. The controls felt great at the beginning, you really felt like flying a beast but it soon got annoying especially at the "Damm Mission" where you have to destroy 4 damms. The game didn't register my movements properly for some unknown reason, so I shook the controller like a psycho (I still felt the pain in my hands the next day, which hasn't happened to me in any game to date).

I remember playing Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Lair, Resistance 1 and Genji on my PS3 back in 2007/2008 The most depressing thing about Lair was the sixaxis pushed by Sony really messed up the game, update did help. What really sucked was watching Factor5 go bankrupt after this game when they had been one of the best third party devs in the industry, they made Rogue Squadron 1-3.
@IMAN7THRYLOS Жыл бұрын
Fun fact. The game was developed by Factor-5, the legendary Amiga developer team from Germany who was very known for the Turrican series of games and their innovative technology with sound mixing. Following the failure of Lair, they went defunct. If you want a good game that exclusively uses the SIXAXIS controls, play Flower.

Absolutely loving these videos, I left a comment on the Haze video just praising how it was made so again I will do the same, the quality of the video is always amazing but the concept of these videos where you finish the game and go through the story is just so good please make this a series!❤

I’d buy that for a dollar

I remember seeing a G4 review of the game. For some reason, a clip of your dragon flying pops up in my head from time to time. I would have thought it was a fever dream if I didn’t see this video.

Another observation on this game.. You have the guide book. I'm sure there is something in it that shows the moves you didn't know how you were doing them. I probably wouldn't have gotten thru it. Good for you to finish it.

If you pause it you can check the move options.

I remember loving this game so much when I was kid. Thanks for the nostalgia!

It really does look like a tech demo. Also I love how this and Haze both really want to be the original Deus Ex with the twist ending where it turns out you were the bad guys.

I really like these mini documentaries with some mixed in gameplay

I bought this game off ebay recently for $10, after seeing this I think it will remain on the shelf ;)

It's worth playing. Change the resolution of your PS3 to 720p though. 1080p gets you worse performance.

This is a great format! It's making me want to get my PS3 out again. Brothers in Arms anyone?
