I just bought 6 new au gratin bowls through amazon. I also have a number of one or two person bakers that I got at thrift sites lover the years. I used them mostly to store and reheat remaining portions of casseroles for work lunch. Now I am cooking just for myself so small au gratins or casseroles are just perfect. This week I cooked a two one person shepherd’s pies, two one person potato gratins, and two one person portions of lemon baked cod. Adapting to widowhood.

Ooo! One more comment as I’m watching the video….about the separation between your hutch and living room area. Ok so you could buy an upper cabinet section with 2 glass doors from Lowe’s (not a base cabinet bc it would be too deep). Place it at a 90 degree angle past the hutch, add casters if too short, add a too, finish the back side of it by framing it with your board and batten wood. THEN at the end of it , put up a reclaimed beam for a post. If the glass doors can’t ooen bc it’s too close to the hutch,p and you don’t have room to push it further toward your couch, maybe put them on the other side for display in your living room. Storage, another surface to decorate, separation, and a pretty old post…win win!

I almost feel if you bring that board n batten wall down behind your hutch, it will look too busy. Your hutch is such a Beautiful focal point and I love how you decorate it and change decor for the seasons, and I almost think it would be in competition with a decorative wall behind it. I personally like how you have the board and batten in the hall because it defines that space nicely. I also LOVE your thrifting 😊

Oh I'm sick I didn't take mom's old crock. We used it as an umbrella stand in the 70s. Mom loved it. Evidently it was old then. My little brother passed away 2 years ago and I saw that crock in his storage unit. It's HUGE. Didn't know the exact size but it obviously stood on the floor and could probably hold 30 umbrellas! I lost my father 2 days before my brother died. I had so much sentimental items I kept, I ended up selling the entire storage unit to a stranger for the $26 she had in her wallet. She actually did me a favor because she wanted a lot of the items, including a new bed, TV, etc. But hindsight is 20/20. I was so mentally and physically worn down I didn't even think that I needed that new bed myself. Plus it was an hours drive with no truck. Wow, quite a long story about a crock. Hope the new owner treasures it like mom and my brother did.

I like the idea of the butcher block but, the legs are good for supper but may make the island look to big for space. Maybe just put some boards there to get the feel. I have a 12 gallon crock , got for 50.00 15 years ago. I have a wooden round top from Lowes on top and use it as an end table. On your island, instead of legs to the floor, have them screwed in under the edge, to the back of the island on an angle. Gives support, and easier to sweep and mop around.

Stephanie, you really scored on the crock! Way to go girl!! An idea came to mind about continuing the board and batten wall. Go just past the hutch and add a vertical beam to the ceiling. Perhaps a joining beam across the ceiling. I'll bet either your brother or dad could help you with that. Beam doesn't have to be thick and could be made with 2x4s and distressed and stained. You can even buy faux ones, light weight made from foam and look real. It would give the allusion of separation. Just a thought. 😊

Hi Debi! I'm so glad you enjoyed my video. Thanks for watching! Grace and Mercy is a non-profit thrift store to raise money for women in need, so grace and mercy is indeed a very fitting name. I hadn't really thought about until now. I did get a great deal on that crock. I hope you find one too. I put my rolling pins in mine. What would you do with yours? I like hearing the different ways that people use them. It's too bad thrift stores don't have those electric scooters for people who have mobility challenges. That would be helpful to many people, I'm sure. Thanks again for visiting with us. Have a good night!

I think 2 chunky corbels would look great on the ends of your island! They would help make the top more steady also! Check thrift stores for them! 😊
