The ergonomics is kind of a non issue, even for small hands. The back paddles are on the fly assignable, so there is literally never a point where you can't have every button in reach without a struggle. The battery isn't as bad as anyone says that it is. I would love to meet these unicorns that have over 2 (or over 4) hours of solid playtime to just sit around and play a handheld untethered with no responsibilities whatsoever. You can easily get more than 4 hours on a single charge by limiting the tdp if you're playing indies and sprite games (and let's face it most people are playing vampire survivors on breaks). With that said these complaints are valid from the perspective of someone coming over from pure console play. Once you get used to being in control of the small details and power consumption, you won't want to give those options up.

I think your criticisms are valid. I got my steam deck and wanted to play emulators. This does work pretty well, but sometimes it got into a state where I had to reboot it. At that point, I realized it really is a PC with an app and some nice optimizations for playing games. The switch "just works". The Retroid Pocket 3 that I picked up recently for the most part just works. I think the steam deck definitely has a place, but for me at the moment, I'm reserving it for playing steam games portably (and not retro games).

for its price you can buy the device that you snap your switch into that makes the screen bigger and comes with a built in power bank to increase battery life. also if you wanted a unit with more power its still cheaper to buy a full sized laptop that has the same specs as the steam deck which has a bigger screen and can play way more games because its not limited to what you can install and you can UPGRADE many of the hardware. the steam deck is just not worth it because there are always better options.

@crowneproductions9908 Жыл бұрын
But if we can't have 3+ hours of battery on high settings, then what is the difference between that and an OLED (better screen) Switch and the Steam Deck? The Steam Deck's big marketing promise is that it's better than Nintendo Switch because MAX SETTINGS! Welp, no, not really. Unless you wanna play for 40min or with it plugged in. The system can't beat switch in battery life, which is arguably the most important aspect of a handheld and like he mentions it's also a hulking mess of a brick compared to the sleek look and feel of the OLED switch. I honestly think that Steam Deck has not lived up to it's promise because to fulfill it's marketing promise you kill the battery in no time flat and that's not acceptable. Glad there is serious competition for Switch but I don't think the Steam Deck is a better portable console.
@kvasir119 Жыл бұрын
@@crowneproductions9908 Some points, but I never said it's better than the Switch. I have both and love both. I never thought the battery could be better because 1) the games aren't optimized for the steam deck (they're just PC games) and 2) the SteamDeck is just a PC in a small form factor handheld case (and gaming laptops eat up energy pretty fast). I got the SteamDeck primarily for portability and for having access to most of my library of games (I don't have to rebuy them). Added benefit that I didn't know of is I can broadcast my screen to the TV wirelessly. So, I can game on my TV or use it as if I had a PC hooked up to the TV since it has Linux (and I'm used to Linux as most of the freeware I use on Windows has a Linux equivalent).

@Eric42000 Жыл бұрын
@@jaydenphilbertmunipals9089 Well there was no other handhelds on the market the last couple of years to compete with the Switch that’s why it was successful. I basically only play my Switch when a new first party title comes out then after awhile it just gets put to the side collecting dust. Being able to play games like Fallout, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil Village, Spider-Man PS4 beats the Switch and their first party games imo. I hope Nintendo fixes their online service and makes their next console(hopefully Switch 2) powerful enough to get ports of all the upcoming triple a games coming out this gen.

Battery life is totally customizable, with spiderman you can achive 3h of battery if you configure it properly, and the same goes for the other demanding games, you can achive between 2.30 at minium, to 3.30, and that is just for the more demanding triple A games, but with all the other triple A less demanding you can achive from 4 to 5 hours of battery, and even more for indies or emulation, up until even 7 hours. But as i have said, you have to know how to configure it, using the fsr, capping the fps, asjustinf the tdp etc... its a portable pc, you can cuatomize the experince, obviusly if you play a demanding game in its default config, its going to last less than 2 hours, but you have the tools to increase that , even to double that time, so do it if you want more battery life.

I’ve had my deck for about 2 months now, I love it! But I also still love my oled switch, I carry both around with me, thanks to the decks massive size I barely fit both in my messenger backpack but they both fit lol. Only gripe I got with the deck is the less vibrant colors compared to the oled switch and the battery life when playing AAA games, if u thought the switch has bad battery life think again the steam deck when playing AAA games is horrid u basically got to be tethered to a beefy power bank or to the power outlet. So portability when playing AAA games for long periods of times is limited if u don’t have a beefy power bank. Hoping they really improve battery life with the deck 2.

The switch is much lighter and more compact 3)no man's sky and Mario Rabids 2 will be with me.

The steam deck fits great in my giant hands it’s so much more comfortable then the switch imo. Battery life wise I can get 3 hours out of horizon dawn and I usually don’t have brightness up that high always below 50%. Imo it’s around the same battery life as the oh switch so it’s good enough for me especially with all the power it has. I’m loving mine rn and love the sales steam has or the other sites you can get keys at that are legit. Like I got deathloop from humble bundle for the monthly thing for 12$ that’s awesome. Switch I’m just using for exclusives now.
