My question is “Why?”. Why make a game about Japan and the Samurai and then go out of the way to find the least likely way to honor that history? But this happens over and over and over again with these companies. Nobody would car about the characters of it was traditional Samurai and then it would all be about gameplay. But by making the characters as far out there as possible draws extra attention that is not needed.

I'm actually quite glad this is happening with Ubisoft. Not as some nasty cynical attitude, but more for the greater good. I've grown increasingly frustrated with the triple A gaming space, as for deacdes anyone with an ounce of common sense could see how continual ballooning costs that were unnecessary have painted them into a corner, and they've never learned from the multitude of signs. Back when they started to pursue certain trends like MMOs or mobile gaming and HAD to shoe horn every bloody game into those things, it was patently obvious they were slicing the pie up so thinly they would hinder each other. But again they never learned. But a massive catastrophe like Ubisoft happening, where they've stuck to the same script of this greedy, single minded pursuit of bland samey risk averse gaming and nickel and diming everything, maybe SOME other companies might be shocked into realising how it can go pear shaped. I don't expect it of course because these fucktards are blinded by greed but there might be some people who take the caution.

I have been saying this almost a decade now, MTX and "live service" are a corporate honey trap. You see on ledger lines 4 income streams; 1. day 1 2. Monthly 3. MTX 4. DLC But the fact is all 4 are drilling into a previously untapped monetary stream, not an infinite one, but a rapidly deflating one, as you lose non-whales your game requires more effort to float, and whales lose interest. Because Consoles have at least 3 tiers to entry, your inflated game prices cut into system sales, as your system cost increases your games demand more perfection, as your streaming costs increase your online integration becomes less acceptable or desired. MTX tricks consumers into financial mistakes, when you eventually remove the game and it cost the same as a console or 2 investment people are unlikely to afford another console, instead opting for cheaper mobile slop or a skipped generation. It simply cannot be budgeted Live service without goodwill, which is what MMO's of the past had, but AAA does not.
@crunchyfrog5554 ай бұрын
@@michaellane5381 Very true. Tehy are all part of the same root though, which is the point I was making about MMOs and mobile games as well. They were all the same greedy trend chasing that is so similar to today. They simply do not grasp at all that whenever you chase a trend and copy others that the customer are simply going to play the BEST ONE and not your copy. But you are correct about the bloated MTX and more. It's the fact they're offering us less and less but adding more and more nickel and diming at the same time that is so patently insulting.

Be careful with your words as you might summon sufferers of the woke mind virus, who will then tell you that you're parroting the far-right (aka pre-Obama era moderates) and not forming your own opinion because of the 1/1,000 woke projects made money while the others lost 50% of their stock value or did, indeed, go broke.

Try saying that about Larian.

@@Javierm0n0 They too would have fallen a lot easier than UBI.. But Larian gives you choice BC the nature of RPG's and how many Dialogue and action tress they have ... NO one has a problem with choice..what people have a problem with is forced ideologies and values ..we want to play games not get beat over the head with political sermons
@Javierm0n04 ай бұрын
@@Sinn3r1337 see there's the problem, you people dont know how to articulate what you're actually mad at then use racist dog whistles because you heard someone else use it. You're not mad at DEI, you're mad at bad writing, bad business management, and sloppy game development. Bad business management is what leads to check-box development, not DEI. Diversity Equity and Inclusion, which is a political term was instated in government entities then the business world because of the history of bad governmental policies, which prop up racist and classist frameworks. Woke started as a term by black americans to talk about learning about our history and overcoming generational trauma. It quickly was co-opted by actual racists to talk about black people without seeming racist. So when people use DEI and woke derisively, you're saying to many people you're racist. However, clearly what you are actually mad at bad business that fleeces consumers. It's the same thing as saying socialism is bad then pointing to a dictatorship as the reason why. Know what these things mean before you parrot them.

@@Javierm0n0Having the CHOICE to be gay, female etc in games is not woke. Having it forced down your throat is. Larian gives people the choice to be what they want to be. Ubisoft doesn't.

One thing that everyone is overlooking is the fact that Vivendi tried taking over Ubisoft. So what if this was all a ploy to intentionally drop the share price enough to enable Yves to buy more stock to solidify his status as majority shareholder to prevent anyone from taking over, ever again?

Sega fell hard, yeah, but a few years later they've created Yakuza, their best franchise IMO. Then they added some brilliant games such as Bayonetta, Valkyria Chronicles, and all of Atlus. Who knows, maybe Ubisoft can do that as well.

Honestly the beats don't bother me because the character was already put in there by Ubisoft in bad faith and not to tell a good story. It also doesn't help that their source for the character is some white guy who made all of it up in books he wrote and edits he made on Wikipedia using his own books as the source lol
@OmniFluxX4 ай бұрын
@@jimmyv3170 I agree with the bad faith thing. Ubisoft was trying really hard to justify his being there as opposed to wow the consumers with the supposed top notch gameplay features they had. Any company that spends their time fighting about anything other than what their product offers will always be in bad faith imo

it makes me sad to see ubisoft fall so far because i had a lot fun playing ac 2 odyssey, rayman and other games but they brought this on themselves. i get annoyed with developers and publishers accusing the fans of sexism and racism card when they criticize something. people don't have a problem with characters being black or trans, or whatever as long as they are well written, what people get annoyed with is game developers trying to push a social agenda and political bullshit instead of trying to deliver a fun experience. i could care less if a video game character is gay, black or whatever as long as they are well written and the game play is fun and it makes sense for the game. its like just focus on making a fun experience and game play and people will support the game but when you try to force an agenda and the game isn't fun to play and overpriced no one is going to buy it. attacking the customer for not liking something will never end well for the buisness as ubisoft is finding out the hardway.
