Also worth mentioning that the spring needs its ends sanded to metal (as you can see on mikes spring) or the trem will not ground.

And my clicking issue was resolved by rotating the spring, one of the winds on it was clicking against the edge of the spring cup but having it turned in a new position fixed the issue immediately.

Fender’s such a garbage company it’s not even funny. Mustang bass reissues have an issue with the intonation screws where they strip particularly easily and don’t have any replacements. Fender outright refused to sell me a replacement or even send me specs. I literally had to hit a cnc shop to have a batch of replacements made. The things we put up with for tone

After watching Rick Beato and friends test out lighter guage strings, I decided to install 8's on my new Am Pro II JM and love them! I did try the 7's but they were too slinky for me. The Panorama system works great with the the 8's. Absolutely love the Am Pro 11 Jazzmaster. The only thing I might change on it is the upper slide switch to a toggle switch. I like to switch lead tones in the middle of songs and find the slide switch a little too hard to find while playing live.

Hi Mike, thanks for the update! Bought an AM Pro II back in late February and have been following all the Panorama related stuff since. I for one really like my 10 gauge strings, so the stock spring is not a huge issue, but some extra range sure wouldn't hurt. I did get the yellow spring a few weeks back, however when I took the unit off the guitar, I was surprised to see that Fender used a completely different spindle on mine. Not sure how widespread this is and it might just be a singular or very limited particularity due to supply chain issues (my guitar also came with an entire set of full height tuners - no staggered ones, likely for the same reason). The spindle on it is way more bulbous, so the yellow spring does not fit over it at all - not even partially like it did in your video with Ryan. I for one don't feel like it's worth the hassle to modify the original part, but would definitely love to find either a slimmer spindle that fits the spring, or an original sized spring with correct tension. Until then, I fear that my dive bombs will only be partially sick :(

Hey Mike! I’ve just done the drill chuck/lathe hack method for filing down the spindle and it worked brilliantly, though worth noting that it’s super helpful for your drill to be able to go backwards to prevent the screw coming away from the spindle. I tried drilling out the centre of the replacement spring but ended up warping it considerably and would say that I’ve definitely weakened it to the point that the stock spring is actually a little stronger, I’ll be ordering another one and hopefully a fresh spring with the filed spindle should work a treat! Just thought I’d share here so people don’t ruin their springs by drilling them (albeit badly on my part), spindle filing is 100% the way to go!

For those that don’t have access to a metal lathe, my coworker gave me the idea to chuck it up in a drill press and I can report that after about 5 minutes with an 8 inch Nicholson file you can successfully modify your existing collet to work with the spring. It's a shame but yup the panorama is not for for purpose. The pickups and the looks are amazing but a big attraction for me was the tremelo. But I couldn't test it because like I say. The shops were closed. So I couldn't raise any issues. I hole I can get s hold of 1 of these screws. On a happier note. Wow I love those modifications you have made the scratcholate is amazing. Ya thats almost as bad as him playing a Gibson instead. Pretty frustrating that we all shelled out this $ for pro 2 and they can't just shoot a 5 dollar spring and an apology to their customers. They got their $$ and I guess that's all they care about.
@michaelw6277
@michaelw6277 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but if it works at the manufacturer prescribed string gauge is it actually a problem? If you install higher gauge strings on a Strat you have to adjust the springs unless you *want* the tremolo to float. I don’t understand why it’s such a big surprise that a Jazzmaster would need more spring to control bigger strings. Like yeah maybe Fender could install a stiffer spring, or maybe the amount of tension in the tremolo bar with the factory gauge springs is exactly what they want. Changing string gauge *is* a modification, and frequently other modifications need to be made to facilitate other modifications.
@ZacharyWThomas
@ZacharyWThomas 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelw6277 I get where you’re coming from here, but I don’t necessarily agree with your logic. Adjusting tremolo springs can be done with just a Phillips head screw driver, and doesn’t require any replacement parts - it’s effectively a setting, not a modification. While I agree that technically changing string gauge is a modification, I think it’s one that a player expects to be possible (with some setup required of course). I think your points are valid about the manufacturer designing the guitar to be used with a specific gauge strings, but I also think it’s not unreasonable for people to assume they should be able to change that to their taste without having to fully replace hardware.
@michaelw6277
@michaelw6277 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZacharyWThomas well yeah, but a Jazzmaster trem plate comes off with a Phillips head screwdriver as well, right? I'm guessing that spring can be swapped out just as fast or faster than changing the strings. . I guess I just don't see Fender at fault here. They provided a massively improved, completely functional product when used as intended. Maybe they could have issued some guidance regarding how to deal with the spring with higher string gauges, but if the warranty says "if you break this guitar by installing higher gauge strings we're not fixing it" and then they go on record telling you how to modify the guitar then what happens? People go with the beefiest springs because that's just what you do with Jazzmasters then get mad at Fender because they won't warranty the twisted neck even though it was Fender who told them how to upgrade the guitar outside of factory specifications. I really enjoy this channel and I've learned a lot watching it, and he knows WAAAAY more than I'll ever know about these guitars, but... he really slipped up here. The pitchforks should not have come out over this.
@michaelw6277
@michaelw6277 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZacharyWThomas oh, and I don’t mean to dismiss people’s frustrations, I get it. But I would say that this is just how it goes when a manufacturer updates a system which has gone on more or less unchanged for literal decades. Fender designed and manufactured a *massively* improved trem system here and they really didn’t have to. It was going to take some time before the aftermarket caught on and filled the need.

Probably will just take it to local guitar workshop here unless would try to do it myself with soldering iron, connectivity check thingy and good energy by following the videos here.

@@deshawn4077 It plays great and it looks stunning. You don't have to change the pickups, they could work fine for your purpose. I always swap pickups on all my guitars anyway. Now I played with it more I think I'll keep the panorama tremolo though. But yeah, I also figured along the way that I might be better off with a Japanese Fender. Then I can change whatever I like and would still not be paying US Fender prices. I've done that with a CIJ Jaguar and it's great.

I checked the the JM 90 and it says it is a P-90 replacement for the Jazzmaster. In your video you said the JM 90 and 180 sound vintage. Do you mean vintage P-90 and not Jazzmaster?

Hello, if I bought that spring, can I just pop in to the Jazzmaster stock as is or do I have to drill a Spring Out in Center?

Curious if the vibrato plate will warp over time..?

Modern plates, I don't expect they will. This is definitely something to look out for with mid-'60s trems, though. It's one big reason why Woody made the Mastery vibrato plate so thick. I actually had to reshape the body plate of the '63 vibrato on my CFM Jag because it was collapsing in the middle, but nothing a little work with a rubber mallet couldn't fix

At the price you pay that guitar, one would have thought that such a fault would not happen.
