Took me long enough but I finally made a redemption video making a fluke mold :D Any color scheme ideas?

Can we use air dry clay if we cant find plasticene?

Hi! How a wonderful fluke idea. Can I know how much silicone have you used? Thank you

hi again Angelika, I’ve just tried to put resin onto my mould (plaster of paris) but it just keeps soaking it up! Should I do a couple of layers?
@Passionfruitdiy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, plaster is porous so it will drink it up! I used layers of UV resin so that way I was able to cure it before it got soaked up - I still did multiple layers. If using epoxy you can try doing a few layers but it might take way more product before the mould becomes shiny. On a plus side it should strengthen it quite a bit.

How much silicone did you use? Did you get the two big gallons and was that enough for the tail and fin?
@Passionfruitdiy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Abby, I have different tails made with different kinds of silicone and using different techniques. I'm going to assume you're asking bout the most popular technique - dragonskin silicone, 2scale sheets and a fluke - for this 2gallons should be fine (unless your fluke is going to be massive or you're really tall etc.)

Did you use a mold release to take the clay out of the plaster like vaseline/petroleum jelly or baby oil.
@Passionfruitdiy2 жыл бұрын
No, the clay is oil based so mold release wasn't needed ☺️

hi angelika! will acrylic paint and eyeshadow work to colour aquarium silicone?
@beazknees3 жыл бұрын
oh and another question! how maybe tubes of the silicone did you use for this mold?
@Passionfruitdiy3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, I used to use eyeshadow for silicone before getting my mica powders. If you can find eyeshadow pigments or loose eyeshadow (powder form) that'll work best but it's usually less pigmented than mica or other powder pigments. Acrylic paint will help the silicone cure and stick to the mould less so I use it mostly for this reason but it's great for adding colour too. Make sure it's not a watery kind of acrylic (like for acrylic pour) and do some samples before going in for the big pieces 😊 I believe I used about 4-6 tubes per cast so about 12total

I don‘t know why, maybe it‘s the Squid 🦑 but I see burnt orange and pastel peach or rosé. And for some reason Ursula from the little mermaid came to my mine (maybe because I had Octopus for dinner yesterday ...) but I could also see something like dark blues and purples.
@Passionfruitdiy4 жыл бұрын
Ooh, fun! I was thinking about Ursula but I thought that was too obvious 😅 and she needs a special tail inspired by her - imagine a full on octopus tail 😲 I like the pastel peach idea! Will have to make some color samples ☺️

How much newplast did you need at the end?

6packs I think 🤗 you can always use some kitchen foil as a base to make the basic shape for bigger projects like this and then cover it with plasticine.

So you use mold release at all?
@Passionfruitdiy4 жыл бұрын
I did for the proper casting (another video with pink silicone). This was just a sample and since I Glazed it with resin it wasn't too bad. I tend to use a mixture of water and dish soap as mould release for this type of silicone, let it dry and then cast the silicone 😊
