Lol! I’m surprised their mark-up was ONLY 100% Upgrades and finishes are where builders make their profit. I loved building my house, but when I did, I paid the builder for linoleum floors and laminate counter tops. I put the upgrade money into extra outlets, fixture boxes, exterior garage doors, sound insulation, etc; all things inside the walls. The expensive finishes I did after moving in, like you. Had so many more options, spent way less money and I enjoyed the process so much more. Not to bash builders, ‘cause mine was great, but we both knew what they were charging for certain upgrades was hugely overpriced and I was not biting.

The backsplash looks great! For your hood and the look you are considering maybe consider a tambour finish on the hood either in full or just as a band around the bottom of the hood. In the white oak you are considering it would add some interesting texture to the space with out competing with your slab.

a tambour/fluted/slat design was actually on my list of options originally! but it seemed like it might be a nightmare to clean if the gaps are too small lol

Your video was in my feed tonight. When we had our house built 25 years ago, we went mostly builder basic, intending to replace counters and other items when our children were grown. Now that they are grown, we don't want to spend the money. But watching your video is changing my mind. Love where your kitchen is heading. I wanted to have a waterfall island too. Yours looks great.

Can you use a black filler or very black grout to hide or fade the seem in the backsplash?
