I finally play the PRS SE Hollowbody Standard

I've been interested in the Paul Reed Smith SE Hollowbody Standard for a couple of years so I finally bought one for review.
Here I briefly go over the guitar's construction and features, as well as demonstrating the different pickup positions and showing how it sounds in a mix.
Tones are straight into my Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb with no pedals, for an honest sound demo.

I have alot of guitars, USA PRS', and other expensive guitars. But my 2020 PRS SE HOLLOWBODY II IN CHARCOAL BURST is my favorite! It sounds and plays perfect. I usually dont like big necks but I do like this neck alot. Plays like a smooth milkshake. I too immediately thought of how perfect an SE Hollowbody in a 594 McCarty configuration would be my perfect guitar. I hope they make them, SOON! Keep those same 58/15 LT S pickups. They are magic...

That mahogany standard stood out to me for it's tones much more than the more expensive non standard models (maple ply tops?). It's a guitar that I can't imagine selling, it just sounds so good. Nice review BTW 👌

I agree. As far as I've been able to tell, the Standard has a "woodier" sound than the upmarket models with the maple top, and being a blues player, the piezo option really didn't interest me at all. So when I decided to feature one of them, the Standard was the obvious choice. Thanks so much for watching.

I had this model for about 2 years and it played and sounded nice! However, I also have two 335 style guitars with upgraded electronics and pickups (P90's in one and Humbuckers in the other) and can dial in excellent tones because of the point you made regarding individual pickup volume and tone controls. So I ended up selling my SE Hollowbody Standard only for that reason. Otherwise, it would have been a keeper. I'm okay with the larger body 335 but definitely the PRS was more comfortable to play. Your demo and review was spot on!

Nice guitar, but would have preferred four pots (volume and tone for each pickup). Also would have preferred a tailpiece to extend the string length behind the saddles for a slinkier feel. Would also have preferred P-90 pups..

Hi Leonard, thanks for the videos. I've a question for you: this guitar and the SE Mccarty solid body have the same pickups, what are differences in terms of sound? The guitars have differences in terms of costrunctions and Fretboard...thanks in advance, best regards

They do sound different, in the ways you’d expect, but it’s not easy to describe. The Hollowbody seems to have that woody, airy, almost acoustic quality to the sound. Especially clean. That said, I don’t know how much difference you’d hear on a recording. What you might do is go back and listen to my review of the SE 594 and the HB back to back. They were recorded identically so it’s a perfect place to hear any difference. Thanks for following my channel.

How would you compare the prs to the epiphone inspired by Gibson custom es355

The PRS build quality is probably a touch tighter, but tiny details, not in any way that matters. Otherwise, they’re both very nice but very different guitars. The PRS is fully hollow and sounds it. They feel very different to play. The 355 has better pickups and for that reason it may be a better value, but it’d be hard to choose without getting both in your hands.
