Hey Dog, I just stumbled across this on another music search and was surprised to see your name in the comments. I think this was a really great demo; but Bryan did the unplugged section that Darrell didn't. This will be the third guitar I've bought without testing it first, and my second PRS bought blind. Pretty sure I'm two for two and thanks to reports like this, yours and a couple of the other guys on the forum. But I have my white uniform on and not the Custom 24 in my avatar with google. See you again in the other pages buddy. I'm down to counting days for mine to arrive. Daryl

@@daryljones3195 Great, Daryl! I played big band for 16 years, and still have an old fashioned non cutaway archtop just in case. I had for many years been the proud owner of a Guild X170 for my small band jazz work. After I got my SE, I realized that the PRS did it even better so it got sold. If you work the tone control, you can get almost any archtop sound, except the sound of a non cutaway deep body acoustic. I still have one of those. Play well, stay well - Paul

I'm just about to take delivery on one of these Hollowbody's and have followed all the chat with great interest. I for years have been a "USA only" will do type of guitarist & have owned many PRS USA version over my years. I do not know if people actually realise, but China is far from the cheapest production location these days and the quality of workmanship is regarded very highly (take Eastman guitars for example). I think it is about time we all gave guitars, other than USA versions, a real chance. Why can we not simply judge a guitar on its ability, quality, build features & rank it accordingly. When I bought my first high end acoustic guitar I asked my dealer to blindfold me & present various brand options. I chose my guitar in the end on its suitability for me, its feel & its sound quality. I for one am prepared to give this SE the benefit of the doubt......

I have a PRS Tremonti SE. The text on the back of the headstock never bothered me, in fact, I think it's a fantastic idea! The company (World Music Instruments Co. LTD in my case) who built and assembled the guitar - while following PRS's specifications - deserves credit for producing such fantastic guitars. Larger companies like PRS throwing relatively unknown companies a bone is always a good thing. This elitism regarding country of origin is just baffling; a good guitar is a good guitar regardless of where it came from. Focus on the quality of the instrument rather than what it says on the back of the headstock.

That closet racism is all that keeps Gibson in business, as their build quality has been crap for years.
@Ilicet Жыл бұрын
@@cybertrophic it's not racism... It's a deserved stigma from years of very poor quality, and quality control coming from those factories... People who pay attention know Gibson is just a brand name now, and a majority of their guitars are inferior to the years of excellence which is the basis for their brand loyalty. Part of the stigma of those foreign factories is a direct result of companies like Gibson wanting their "lower tier brands" to be noticeably worse than their American made guitars. But to say it's racism is absolutely absurd. I am asian btw, and just like the guitars which used to come from China, most of the electronic components coming from their are known to fail, have bad soldering, etc. It's not racist to call out obvious flaws 你他妈的.

Darrell, based in part on your review and a few others, I picked one of these up last week. (one local mom and pop store had a brown burst on hand.) I could not be more pleased with this guitar. Honestly I have had two other SE models and didn't keep either. I am not a big PRS fan in general. I play rhythm in a cover band and I am constantly switching from acoustic to electric. I have tried a Godin A6 (now up for sale), and a Nashville deluxe power tele with piezo bridge, and a few other hybrids and was not happy with any of them. I ran this PRS thru my pedal board ...an acoustic Fly rig and an electric Fly rig and straight out to a good quality powered 12" speaker. The dual outs work great with my wireless buds and it's very simple twist of the wrist to go from acoustic back to electric, or to blend. This guitar sits perfectly in our band mix, whether I am on the piezo or the mags. Very very pleased. Thanks for the video.
@tomedwards813 жыл бұрын
Do you mind going into a little bit of detail about what you prefer about the PRS over the Godin? I've considered an A6 Ultra and am now considering the Piezo. Both roughly the same price here in Australia. I'd appreciate you sharing your insights if it isn't too much trouble. Thanks!
@BugTussleStudio3 жыл бұрын
@@tomedwards81 Sorry for slow reply. I am moving across the country and have been slammed. What I can say is that while I did like the Godin (felt more comfortable in my hands), I was not entirely pleased with the acoustic sounds and frankly the HB wasn't all that great either (at least thru my amps). But both tones were "passable". The PRS covered both bases far better. Keeping in mind that tone is subjective :) I found that the PRS sounded far better than the Godin thru a double rig (two amps one HRD and one Fender Acoustic) and even thru my HRD alone the piezo sounded at least as good as the Godin. Hope this helps.
@tomedwards813 жыл бұрын
@@BugTussleStudio that’s a very helpful reply and no worries about the delay time. Moving across a country (I’ve done it myself several times) is a challenge at the best of times, let alone during a pandemic! The reason I’m so interested in your experience is that I also play through a Flyrig. In my case the 5 V2. For acoustic I use a Trace Acoustic Transit A because I got one second hand in mint condition for very little money. It’s great but I’d like to get the Acoustic Flyrig at some point. I’m going out of their balanced outputs straight to a mixer and have been happy with the results. It’s good to know how the PRS performs in a setup similar to my own. My hesitation is that I’m a very energetic performer and I need my guitars to be tough. That’s why I play a Telecaster at the moment. I worry about how the Hollowbody would cope with being thrown around a bit....it’s hardly cheap here in Australia. Guess I’d have to be careful, but when things get going with the band I tend to get carried away 😂

@@ricklewis5804 It's obviously not a freaking Taylor or Martin lol. I'd be thrilled to have such a good-sounding piezo on my go-to hollowbody. Seriously, why do people go into demos of piezo-equipped electrics expecting them to sound EXACTLY like a nice, real acoustic? You already know it's not going to; stop raining on everyone else's parade lol. The question is always how close does it get, and the only better piezo sound I've heard from an electric is the USA version of this guitar.
@frmcf4 жыл бұрын
Sounds to me like you could conceivably get a passable acoustic tone from it. It depends on what you need. It would be interesting to hear it through a good acoustic preamp pedal and EQd to get rid of the quack. A piezo is always going to sound like a piezo, but sometimes you can sculpt it a little and get something “good enough”. It’s partly a matter of reining in your expectations! :)

Great review as always. I actually liked the piezo quite a lot, soloed or blended, and more so through the Mesa than the acoustic amp where the blunted transients were more obvious. The piezo would be the motivating factor for me to buy this guitar if I were in the market. I didn't so much like the humbuckers themselves -- sound sort of cold or characterless to me -- but I'm more vintage oriented, so maybe lowering them would help. Beautiful guitar for sure. For as low as $1,200 USD new and $800 used, it's a sweet deal for a modern sounding hollow body.
