I just finished The Farseer Trilogy last week. It’s a difficult series for me to recommend to others because of the pacing and the prose. I realize it’s not for everyone. There’s times throughout the series where it hits a bit of a “slog”. I hate to call it slog because it’s just slower pacing, but those slower moments are times when Hobb is really fleshing out characters and developing relationships. For me, these books were perfect. It truly felt like magic reading it. I found myself in awe many times after a reading session. The prose strikes the perfect balance between elegant and poetic, and easy to digest. It just feels great to read. The characters and the human element of this series are better than any I have read. The excerpt you read about a hand being calloused and tough, creating the feeling of safety, but also preventing escape is absolutely incredible. There were so many moments throughout the series that I went back and reread a section just to enjoy it again. I can’t remember too many times when my heart rate increased and I got that adrenaline dump like an Abercrombie or Pierce Brown book. Hobb’s sparing use of action, violence, and suspense is so effective though. When something happens, you can really feel it. While the first book was incredible, I found books 2 and 3 even better. I’m excited for you to have the chance to enjoy this amazing series and look forward to your updates as you go along.

@@Talking_Story Absolutely John. The 'in-world' time flows mean that taking a break doesn't impact the flow of the ongoing story. In particular, I genuinely *recommend* a break (especially for binge readers) after Fool's Fate, so you can head into the Rain Wilds Chronicles with an open mind and let it be what it is, not what you wish it was. There's a connected novella that isn't essential to the saga, 'The Willful Princess and The Piebald Prince', that I think works best either after you're finished (the ❤Hobb ❤hang-over is real, you'll need a little somethin' somethin'), or between the end of The Liveship Traders and beginning of Tawny Man. The *themes* in the novella will strongly inform the landscape of the Tawny Man story, and that's where I think the novella gives the most value to the reader. Other than that, John, I'll be in touch 😉

Its fine but so far my favourite parts have been the tie-ins and cameos from the previous trilogies. As for what I'm currently reading: *Fantasy* Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior - 310 pages in, Dakar aside, I'm loving it! Imagine if Robin Hobb took a Malazan-esque approach but with a Wheel of Time type of story. John, I know you've said you plan on tackling Malazan and WoLaS in the same year, I'd really advise against it and to stick to just 1 at a time. *Horror / Thriller* Joe Ledger 1: Patient Zero - About a third of the way through, its picked. Simultaneously, Joe is a badass but also reads a bit too much like a power fantasy. *Western* Streets of Laredo / Larry McMurtry - Slowly chipping away, I'm loving catcging up with some of our returning characters from Lonesome Dove.

It's an all around 10/10 book for me, and my favorite of all time! Also, I just finished Demon in White a few days ago, and I can't decide whether I like it better than Howling Dark. I read Assasin's Apprentice last year. I want to get back into it, but I should have held off a little bit until I was read to dive into the series. It was a great read though. I just picked up Boys in the Valley for my wife's birthday last weekend. I can't wait to see what she thinks about it. The Blood Stones is my next read. I just keep hearing too many good things about it and I'm breaking the TBR for it. Man, I haven't watched any new situational comedies. I think the closest might be Fubar on Netflix. I laughed so hard with the comedy they injected into that show. We need to find out what Jakob's Parralax Effect is so he can see the evidence for the tingle.

I’m so that you loved Assassin’s Apprentice! I’m currently in the midst of my re-read of Ship of Destiny (third book of the Liveship Traders trilogy) and loving it even more. I can’t to see your journey through the Realm of the Elderlings! It may be an unpopular opinion, but I love Furiosa more than Fury Road (and I absolutely loved Fury Road to the point that my dog is named Max for Mad Max). I love how epic Furiosa is-epic in the sense of Beowulf and The Iliad where it’s about the telling and the listening (or, in the case of Furiosa, the watching) of the tale rather than the common, modern aspects of visual storytelling through film. The visuals are there of course (they do seem very anime-like in their framing now that you mention it!), but they are there to tell the story rather than be just a feast for the senses. If that makes sense.

Tawny Man brings together the first two trilogies beautifully. Adding the new elements from the Liveship books into Fitz' world and concluding with a simply epic set of reveals. If you've had enough interest to this point Theo, you'll very much enjoy Tawny Man, but if it's not rocking your world by then, don't feel you have to go into the second arc - the conclusion of Fool's Fate works as a spectacular close to a story. The next arc explains the longer origin story/prophecy stuff.
