But they call it a death chunk for a reason, so his options would be: 1. quit the account 😭 2. ignore the task (doesn't seem ideal to me because then you get the benefits of the chunk without having to pay the cost) 3. lock the chunk until it's not a death chunk 4. Find a way to make it not a death chunk (like with his fishing trawler exploit) #4 is obviously best, but failing that, #3 seems best to me. But I'm also very much not a stickler and would enjoy the series even if he did #2. The worst outcome, in my opinion, is a grind so long we don't get videos for a very very long time.

Some hellhound math for those who are interested: Plugging Josh’s gear into the wiki’s DPS calculator, the average kill time for a hellhound at his current ranged level of 73 is around 75 seconds. Presumably he’ll reach 99 ranged doing this grind, at which point the average kills go down to just shy of 60 seconds, so we’ll go with a soft estimate of 1 minute per kill. He has a 50% chance of getting the drop in (32,768)*(1- 1/e) kills or fewer, which works out to at most 345 hours, or about 43 days of killing hellhounds 8 hours a day. If he loses this coin flip and hits the drop rate we’re looking at 546 hours, or 68 days. At 2x rate, 136 days. And if he somehow makes it all the way to 5x the drop rate, we’re looking at just shy of a year at 341 days of killing hellhounds 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. FWIW, I’m going to say that the “coin flip” kc of (32,768)*(1- 1/e)= 20,713.326 is a reasonable point to call it. ChunkYanille is honestly the series I look forward to the most on KZbin, and on top of wishing for Josh’s overall mental and physical well-being I also selfishly just want to see this series continue and thrive. I agree with the others who are saying that the 1/10k for the visage is pretty much at threshold of what is and isn’t considered a “meme grind”.

Limp and Verf both have done the visage and smoldering stone grinds (granted with way better equipment than Josh) they dont lock basically any content behind anything except actual meme grinds like the 1/1m onyx from gem sacks etc. for example Limpwurt just recently said that he would have gone for imbued heart and eternal gem with only cave crawlers lol

Saturday I started my own "one"-chunk journey myself but with 2 chunks like you did, starting in Hemenster (the ranging guild) and fishing guild chunks, which nether I can enter (meaning starting with no bank), but I rolled my first new chunk the same night, which I have been working on a single chunk task for the past 2 days, and will still be working on for at least another day or 2. Only reason that is happening really is I'm not ironman and my friend brought me a knife so that I could stop dropping logs, but now I have a level 57 fletching grind for a maple shield, as well as a rune axe so I need to reach 40 attack to equip it.

At your current combat, 71 att and 81 str with a rune battleaxe it takes you on average 93.8 seconds to kill a single hellhound, which means at 1/32768 dropchance it would take you just under 36 days of nonstop hitting hellhounds while not stopping for a single tick to do anything else. The odds of you going dry for 100+ days of ingame time spent hitting hellhounds is extremely real and even when you do complete it you have a 1/10000 visage to look forward to after, idk how you could possibly go about this grind if you plan on releasing an episode showcasing progress within at least 6 months

​@@redramone6488 Prayer flicking is a thing, I'd imagine that'd be the best option if you planned on meleeing the hellhounds as opposed to using range which would be much more afk. For what it's worth, I believe LSDbroski used mostly range when he ran into this chunk on his chunk account, before it seems like he'd ultimately given up on continuing. Just let Josh cook and we'll see what he comes up with, I'm sure he has some unique ideas of what to do for this kind of situation instead of trying to give him excuses out of this grind. Chunkers have had far more than 100+ day grinds in the past before so it's not like this is an entirely new or completely unreasonable situation. Also, he should come out of this with some pretty beefy combat stats assuming he does it conventionally.

Smouldering stone is a unique from Cerberus. It was only added to hellhounds droptable because they had nothing besides hard clues as drops and Cerberus being a hellhound made Jagex think oh yeah we might as well put it on their drop table too, for shits and gigs that someone may get lucky and obtain it via most likely through slayer. Definitely a meme drop, only go for it once Cerberus is unlocked as you can then attach it to a d axe/pick/harpoon. I would say the same for the dragonic visage as its originally dropped from KBD then further was placed in dragons droptables at a lower drop rate

Absolutely. In episode 1 a curved bone was skipped because it was over a 1/5000 droprate so these are no different. Even the KBD only has a 1/5000 drop for the visage which is way too rare to expect that you HAVE to get it.

I for one disagree. I watch different creators not for their different takes on the ruleset, but for "how does a different starting location / other random rolls influence the outcome". What kind of experiences are shared / similar on all accounts (hunter on implings, incredible smithing grinds, ...), what is different (fishing minigame, wilderness bosses, KQ, ...). Of course, some disagreement between creators about the exact rules they play by is going to happen, and I for one understand and accept Josh'es decision on Farming, but the more these happen, the less interesting it becomes to me to compare them - which is the main thing that interest me to watch multiple chunk accounts concurrently.

@@bisaVCI To be fair, in episode 1 of this series, Josh bypassed the grind for the Curved Bone at Ogres with a 1/5000 drop rate. So bypassing these drops would be in line with that decision. With the recent farming method, if Josh wanted, I could see him backgrounding these two grinds. But I also think that since neither of these objects have utility at the moment, shelving until their other parts are obtainable also seems reasonable to me. I could also see setting a min killcount for progress for these grinds (ex: 5k) where then a new chunk can be rolled, just to give the game the option to spoonfeed.

Something i considered when getting high droprate tasks is to only go to droprate killrate regardless if you get the item or not. Its a bit of a cheat to do so, but least you wont be sitting in a chunk going 3 times dry on a 1in32k droprate.

Had to do a bit more research on my previous comment - I think you're safe on the 83 crafting grind because of the lack of thread and lack of redwood to make any of the black dragon equipment, but wouldn't you need to make at minimum a Blue D'Hide Shield? Blue Dragon Leather at the Ranging guild tanner, a Yew shield (from a Yew tree seed), and mithril nails (with superheat) - that would be a 69 (Nice) Crafting grind, at least it's not 83!

Just some thoughts for the taverley chunk 1) since you have a easily obtainable way to get summer pies, you can delay the agil grind for the pipe since it is a +5 boost 2) since it is a +5 boost, do you need 80 or 75 agil for the diary chunk task? 3) if I was in your boots of lightness, I'd do hellhounds before dragons, that way you could POSSIBLY get enough hard clue steps for an MSB? Considering we are two years in the future and the series is now established, it is likely just a change in perspective. Plus a curved bone drop in a chunk with a ton of long grinds is kinda just whatever. The stone and visage are essentially the staple grinds of this current chunk and would def result in a lot of backlash if he skipped them

For the bowstring (12:00), why are you not able to barehand Young Implings? You should be able to barehand catch them at 32 hunter and these imps would be common all over the place. They drop bowstrings at a rate of 1/10.

I found out during leagues you can also get thread from implings too, it didn't help with the task because of no tanner but range armor upgrade would be helpful for these long grinds

There's already been some discussion on it, but I think you should be allowed to pause death tasks until key chunks are unlocked. I understand it damages the purity of the challenge, but I feel like that's a sacrifice that would be worth not risking gigantic gulfs of time inbetween some episodes. I understand that would be such a hard decision to make, but... perhaps you can set a new precedent for chunk challenges. You shouldn't have to put your viewership and sanity at risk just to maintain perfect purity of the challenge. We all know you CAN do the absurdly long grinds, but SHOULD you? I think it's an important question we have to ask if we ever want to see this series conclude within the decade. Anyways, love the content!

Here's a Fun Taverley Fact that I leaned myself while down there; The door to the storm cauldron has to be clicked several times to pass through. One click activates one armour, and the second activates the other, and third passes through.

Big fan of the lock and key idea. As much as chunk goals are kind of pivotal the the format of these accounts, having some allowance for sanity retention is nice. Even if there was a sort of soft lock to shelving the task until you get the key. Say 10k hellhounds without the drop let's you shelve it. It would be a massive spoon to get it that early but still keeps some of the original chunk task integrity.

so one thing that would really help you out is both of your death chunk task have an elemental weakness to water spells so even water strike would be a world more kills per hour than your current range gear
