I was so intrigued by the trailer that I drove just over 75 miles to attend an early "fan screening" at an IMAX theater, one of the best decisions I've ever made! I was completely blown away by this movie. I usually find subtitles annoying and find that they break the immersion, but then I also feel that dubbed movies tend to do the same as the voice performances don't always sync well with the acting. The way to dialog was structured was almost created for subtitling, it was easy to quickly scan the word while still taking in the actors faces, and the tone, intensity, and other vocal nuances which were definitely a huge plus as the acting was mostly amazing. I have since also watched the dubbed version and it actually is really well done. While I still suggest that people watch the original subtitled version the dubbed version holds up really well.

The director confirmed that Noriko had Godzilla cells in her. How they affected her is a lot of speculation but it may have had a hand in her survival

One of the best: Godzilla movies ever War movies of the last 20 years And that’s not considering how wonderfully they portrayed PTSD, survivor’s guilt and sense of responsibility for a family or your duty. Truly a wonderful movie

@@ettorereventon2667 that is a good point while the film is not a straightforward war movie, technically speaking it’s still kind of is with some of its themes around the stuff of PTSD and survivors guilt like you said.

You're absolutely right about the allegory of Godzilla and WWII, and how the US used it to end the war. If they hadn't done so, the large earthquakes and tsunamis might have led to a similar sea monster attacking the country or some atomic monster based on the Fukushima disaster. It's ironic that Japan was devastated by the atomic bomb, only to later use atomic energy more than any other country to produce electricity. Now, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the country is reconsidering its approach.

I'm glad you felt the same way I did when I watched this. I hadn't seen it for such a long time until a friend was so affected that he encouraged me to watch it. Wow, this is not just another monster movie; it's a human story with a monster (Godzilla) in the background. Thanks for sharing my feelings about this movie.

Call me crazy, but the scene where our hero corrects the little girl, reminding her that he is not her father, and the look on her sweet little face, really got to me. I've become terribly soft in my old age.
