omg that part resonated with me so much too! I feel like whenever I just finish drawing something, I either love or hate it. But when I look back at it a couple of weeks or even years later, I'm glad I actually drew it.

That bit about warming up and having to get the "ugly" out of the way is so relatable in my writing. The first thing is always a weird, warped mess, but then smooths out into something I'm proud of. Also, I'm obsessed with that neon pink watercolor! Every time you used it, I was hypnotized.

I got over my fear of making crap art in my sketchbook by reminding myself I can just paint or scrapbook over it and turn it into a more art journal type page. It doesn’t have to be finished until I’m happy with it. As for repainting over canvases, if you don´t want the texture you can lightly sand it! ❤ your style is really sweet.

being a perfectionist in a sketchbook is WILD, that's like being a perfectionist in the words you silently speak to yourself, or a perfectionist in your personal journal. That's nuts hahahaha

i think the people that are perfectionists are ones that plan on showing their sketchbook to others

Yeah. I did post a sketchbook tour & it gave me a lot of unnecessary pressure to make it look aesthetically pleasing. Now I managed to fill it up halfway in about a month, which is great !! I feel like just relieving that pressure is amazing because I don’t have that stress of showing it. I’ll eventually show it when it’s done but I’m not sketching with that in mind, you know ??
@18Aleziita5 ай бұрын
You are totally right now that I'm think of it. I feel pressure to be in certain way even to myself, as I am the first and worst judge that I have 😅 I don't write diaries because I never like how my words flow through the pages.

It is always good to make these challenges or “dumps” to work out some bad energy or block within your art. You loosen up and allow yourself to play and experiment because you are not in the headspace of making a perfect piece. I always work in several sketchbooks at once so I can continue my art energy instead of waiting for one piece to dry. Your sketchbooks are great.

I absolutely loved that video. If only because watching you draw stuff without it looking so very involved with three days of planning for a drawing and carefully choosing the colors and such. My mind knows it, but still, it's very freeing to see you just draw and please yourself, even if you don't always love everything. I'm always paralyzed by the feeling that I can't draw/paint/use my sketchbooks because I can't use them for stuff that isn't great and perfect. Watching you just draw and feel in pages was very freeing and really made me want to grab one of mine and just draw too rather than fret about how/what I draw. I loved the "long long boy" art image at around 38:00 !!

I love you talking about the inspiration. I had this annoying classmate on 7th grade, who refused to draw/paint/etc at school, saying she "didn't feel inspired". Like, mam, you cannot wait for inspiration forever!! And most times inspiration comes after you start doing art. That said, I feel soooo inspired when visiting museums/art shows.

you're my fave artist on youtube right now 💜 I related so much to what you said about being so inspired as a kid and realizing it can look different in adulthood with a better understanding of emotion. For a long time I thought I'd lost my spark for writing music, but have recently realized I'm just more stable now and maybe I can write from this place.

this video was absolutely lovely to watch and I do agree with the sentiment you shared about being less inspired now as an adult and how much emotions we felt as teenagers impact our art growing up, I used to use my sketchbook as a form of escapism as well when I was a teen and I want to reconnect more with that aspect of using my sketchbook in a more therapeutic way to process emotions, thank you for sharing this video, I loved it! also, what are those brush pens that you used around the minute 11:30 and 12:30? they look so juicy and vibrant and neon, I love them!

thanks so much for sharing. I related to so much of this. From stacks of unfinished sketchbooks, to the the fear of not being good enough or not putting my work in my sketchbooks that i'm not happy with but this is a great reminder about why we make art and how important even the "ugly" art we make is. I've always known that what people portray on socials is a curated version but I forget that this applies to art too. At the end of the day I would rather have sketch books filled with diverse, some good, some bad art rather than half empty sketchbooks filled with a couple of good drawings.

Love the ideas in this video. I agree that a sketchbook should not be about making something beautiful, but rather about collecting and playing. For me, the sketchbook is the middleman before I start working on an actual piece. I make little collages of my sketches that turn into paintings and drawings. I think the idea of a perfectly curated sketchbook has come from instagram. This is why I keep my own sketchbooks sacred and I don’t share them, at least not on my permanent feed. This video reminded me that it’s just better to keep doing, even when you don’t know what to make.

What a fun video! I've recently been getting back into art and discovered that I, too, prefer sketchbooks to loose paper just so I know where everything is. It wasn't hard to keep track everything at first, but once I hit a certain point of creating I was like, okaay now this is getting overwhelming. Also...I know you mentioned the shop those awesome neon watercolors came from, but I was wondering if you could also share the name of the colors you used as well so that I can buy the right colors? I have recently become a little bit obsessed with neons! Paul Reubens makes some neon watercolors, but I'd much rather support a small shop if I can :)
