I loved this arc so much. Frostdawn is top five favorite characters at this point. I really like the themes of grief and motherhood warrior cats is exploring recently. I wish more characters had died in this arc especially in Star with Splashtail's takeover.

YES Frostdawn is easily in my top five. I love how they actually treated her trauma and abuse seriously, with the park cats and nightheart telling her it wasn't her fault. I cried when she got her name and when she woke up after everyone was singing and realized people cared about her 😭 her story and POV was the best in the arc and done SO well! 👏

I think the greencough thing was a wasted opportunity. They made it seem like the worst greencough clans have ever seen, yet the only one that died was a newborn kit. They could've killed a few cats from all clans. That way, RiverClan having herbs would've been that much more of a big deal and the other clans would've openly supported Tigerstar in taking control of RiverClan. Plus, the Erins could've used this as an opportunity to get rid of some ThunderClan background cats because I doubt anyone would notice if Leafshade or Plumstone were no longer in the story

I agree, for me it's the disconnect between the narrative the authors have for him vs his objective actions. The narrative wants to villainaize everyone around him, while he is objectively impulsive and dismissive of his family's feelings for him. The narrative wants to say that he is reactive to his family's expectations and that is why he left TC, whereas the text shows that he lashes out at his family but is chill as a cucumber in front of Berryheart, who is openly aggressive towards him

I AGREE SO HARD WITH YOUR NIGHT×SUN TAKES!! Like it's sooo annoying and it feels like they would have been better off breaking up, and I think that would also have been more interesting. Like, we rarely have cats break-up because they're incompatible, the only example I can think of it Crowfeather and Nightcloud. It really felt like Nightheart was (unintentionally) using Sunbeam, and Sunbeam should have learned to stand up for herself and stop being a people pleaser. It felt like Nightheart had no consequences for coming to her Clan and declaring himself her mate without her permission, or them even officially dating, and then leaving her without warning

I always thought part of the reason Sparkpelt named Flamekit that was because it seemed like Sparkpelt and Larksong picked out kit names together before they were born (like Flickerkit). Finchkit, Flamekit, and Flickerkit were all “F” names, and perhaps after Larksong died, she wanted to use the names they picked out together, even if they didn’t “match” the kits.

Gotta say, in the Prologue of Thunder, where Thunderstar says "She was never meant to be a medicine cat," I thought it was Frostpaw, who was meant to be the next leader of RiverClan. Which would have been a very interesting thing to do, seeing as Frostpaw had little warrior training, and was still an apprentice. I thought they were setting up a King Arthur type story arch and I am SO disappointed that they didn't. Because that would have been amazing to have an inexperience young cat be selected by StarClan to be the next leader.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt Nightheart's actions were icky. I also found it kinda funny that they were like "oh let's wait to have kits!" and then by the end of Star she's pregnant lmao. Y'all didn't last very long! I started the arc with Sunbeam as my favourite, and while I still like her, Frostdawn definitely ended up taking center stage for me. Loved the badass she cats of this arc so much.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but if people finished A Starless Clan without understanding that the books *are not trying to portray NightHearts actions as good* that is kind of concerning to me. If the authors thought NightHeart lashing out and pushing others away was good or reasonable, he wouldn't have gotten an entire arc in which he learns to understand his clanmates (+ mothers!) perspective and love for him. Yes, NightHearts actions were bad, that is the point. You can't have an arc if your character starts off perfect

i haven't read a warriors arc in years but i have kept up with this one via reviews and stuff and. i think splashtail would've been such a compelling villain if his motivation came from a place of love for riverclan and wanting to see them be strong in the face of danger. he wanted riverclan to be the most powerful clan so that nothing could ever hurt them again, he wanted his loved ones to be safe no matter what, and he was willing to turn to horrible ends to get there. maybe he needed frostpaw to be a medicine cat so he could use her to fake signs or omens that would put riverclan on edge, maybe even give them a common enemy in shadowclan. maybe there could've been tension between shadowclan and riverclan, with riverclan seeing them as genuine invaders. maybe riverclan cuts itself off from the other clans after mistystar dies, and this could tie into sunbeam's arc by teaching her to put herself before others, but not at the expense of others. she could see an example of how to do this the wrong way in riverclan, and focus on putting herself first while still maintaining her compassionate nature. this could even tie into nightheart's issues with his legacy by having him be conflicted about if or not he should get involved and help (the way firestar would have) or retreat into himself and stay true to himself in the process. i don't know! take that all with a grain of salt bc again i haven't read the arc but that's just what i could come up with off the top of my head

In my opinion Frostdawn took over the whole arc for me and Nightheart and Sunbeam faded into the background. Frostdawn's POV from Thunder- Star was so much more interesting then Nightheart and Sunbeam I didnt care about their chapters at all, I think there should have been a better balance between the importance of them but I feel like especially Sunbeam didnt do much the whole arc

The last book Star was so emotional. Spoilers Riverclan cats attacking everyone but feeling so desperate and empty was sad. I cannot believe Podlight went crazy haha I completely expected Splashstar to after that prologue. It was also so sad with Berryheart dying after being gang up killed by three cats and Sunbeam borderline sobbing for her mum to stop getting hurt. And the stakes of kits potentially getting hurt. Gosh this book was so suspenseful but the saddest warrior cat book in a while. (I mean Ivypools grief and Bristlefrost sacrifice was hard to) but the whole book of Star just felt Riverclan and all their members were helpless. A chapter in and I thought we were going to lose Mothwing. Phew. Only thoughts for this book was Splashtail could have been separated from the kits a couple of times. And I was just kind of hoping Frostpaw would be called Frostriver. Just to symbolise being a significant part of riverclan.

it really would be a lot better if in the future there was some kind of novela between Sparkpelt and Finchlight where she is confronted about her feelings and it forces her to finally admit to herself that she rejected Nightheart because he looked so much like Larksong. I kept thinking she was probably glad to be away from him during her banishment and that feeling felt so reprehensible to her that she convinced herself her grief had nothing to do with it. I mean, it makes perfect sense. I think I just internally canonized it. Maybe the writing team will retcon it; it's happened before. Either way, I consider it canon.

This was the fist time reading newer warriors it almost felt like I was seeing Firestar's journey again with Frostpaw! I totally though she was develping into a young chosen leader like he was. After all Thunderclan had older more capable cats but it was his destiny. I really thought Riverstar was picking out and making a true leader through all she's been through. No one else seemed strong enough since Splashtail wouldn't have gotten as far as he did. It felt like she was the last pure soul or hope for Riverclan and driven out of it. Riverclan wasnt riverlcan till she returned. It would have been cool if she asked to be deputy first though and waits a bit to reach leaderhood to learn. But honestly I would have been fine with her being leader. We haven't had a new 'firestar' a real underdog becoming a leader in such a short time in SO long. When the first series made it out like massive deaths and role changes happened so much faster. The new leader picked *spoilers*..yes that cat is worthy but I kinda feeling like a cop out. That cat could have just been chosen right away. That cat was there all along. Frostpaw had to become and find herself, she was 'ready' when Mistystar died. The new leader picked WAS and it didnt stop what happened.. Its a let down because Frostpaw was amazing with a connection to Starclan like Firestar did. Not all the leaders are connected to Starclan like he was! It wasnt a medcine cat thing. IMO. She was the real NEW Firestar not Nightheart!

I feel like they could've kept Splashtail's motives as ambition without him feeling like a mwahaha villain also. At the point of Misty and stone's deaths, he was basically a nobody with no power and little chance of getting power. But after Frostpaw chooses him as riverclan's new deputy, he finally has a taste of what power is like, and he loves it and doesnt want to lose it while also wanting more. (This could be all wrong though cause i have not read these books myself though lol)

Splashtail wanted to be leader when Mistystar was alive and Reed whatever is name is was deputy. He believed he was helping RiverClan or something. After Tigerstar invaded or took over RiverClan. But he did want power before Tigerstar did anything.

I definitely get your opinion on Night/Sun. I was NOT on board with it for the first two books because it did seem like it was another romance used for only the male main character's development, but it grew on me. It was the way they grew closer in ShadowClan which made me more convinced that at least they COULD functionally work, and the building conflict with Sunbeam and Berryheart. I think, taking the "cross-clan relationships being metaphors for different types of relationships," angle, Night/Sun is like a cross-culture relationship where the parents don't approve for xenophobic reasons. Sunbeam's main conflict is a) being shackled to her mother's approval/expectations and b) being at a place where she can feel stable and be herself. Her going after Nightheart is actually a BIG moment for her, because this is a decision and risk she chooses to take all her own, regardless of what her parents would say and compromises the stable/secure life she desperately wants and was trying to build in ShadowClan. In the metaphor, it's when the child, who has usually relied on their parents for guidance, chooses to be with their partner and become independent from their parent's judgement. Yet Sunbeam still struggles with her mother and feeling at home. When Nightheart went on the journey, Sunbeam had to forge a home herself in ThunderClan. It was her own efforts and being able to stand up for herself that allowed her to build the confidence in her own decision. The change/contrast is more clear as in the earlier half of the series, Sunbeam often fretted if her mother was actually in the right, or if there was merit in her mother's ideas, as her mother wanted to persuade her. But in Star, Sunbeam is the one who tried to change her mother's mind. She is still a bit shackled to Berryheart, but at least this time she is willing to stand her ground and persuade her MOM to change. In the metaphor, this is the stage when the child has finally made peace with their choice and can let go of their parent's xenophobia. I kind of wish Berryheart didn't die because keeping her around could be really interesting for future series, but I guess they didn't really know what to do with her after the climax to Sunbeam's arc. Nevertheless, Sunbeam did not reach this point without her decision to go after Nightheart. Maybe she wasn't fully in love with him when she made that choice, either, despite the initial heartbreak. I think it was a case of not wanting to let something potentially good and interesting go, so she went for it. Perhaps it would have been more interesting if they didn't work out in the end, I wouldn't mind that kind of story. It definitely would be a refreshing romance plot for Warriors. However, I think the main character trio for ASC was some of the most interesting ones we've had in a while, and I'm quite happy with where all three of them have ended up. Warriors does have a misogyny issue on top of a track record of having weak romance plots, so the Night/Sun romance arc was bound to have some problems... Where it stands out is that it's got a stronger thematic core compared to other main romances we've seen in this series. So I can overlook those issues and appreciate the way their relationship had allowed both characters to grow and put forth some interesting and relevant ideas.

spoiler warning I feel like with some of the characters, such as Berryheart and Splashtail, were a bit confusing in Star. Like, I know in the other books; they might’ve hinted at the insanity of these cats but Star just goes all out with it. I did also wonder, in Star, what if Nightheart had tried to attack Splashtail away from the kit instead of having to fight off Riverclan warriors? He was literally about to attack Splashtail but then suddenly it’s about the Riverclan warriors? I was kinda expecting Nightheart to leap away from them and attack Splashtail so that at least ONE of the Riverclan warriors can get the kits away. Sure, Splashtail was ‘evil’ and whatever but Riverclan had so many Warriors and it would’ve been such a cool moment to have in the books. If all of Riverclan turned against Splashtail instead of the other clans.

I want to know more about these cats then boom they are parents, grandparents never get to know anything. TON of Firestar kin and Nightheart gets focus. A OG cat like Mothwing did alot this arc around Frostpaw, it would be great for her to go out defending her clan from its greatest threat. It was a perfect opportunity for Mothwing to have a moving death in the POV of someone who cared about her (Frostpaw) Now she'll just randomly die off between books of green cough or old age and get a mention.

I always thought Nightheart being like ‘I’m nothing like fire thooo’ was a bit silly-he was orange eyes and we know cats are named after their eye color all the time (Yellowfang for example) and I feel like if he had not been related to Firestar he wouldn’t care as much. That’s just my opinion tho

Spoilers for star To be 100% honest I was so sure they were going to kill puddleshine. He was alone in the riverclan camp, they managed to write him there without a single warrior, bodyguard, heck frostpaw wasnt even with him so he very well could have been either taken hostage or murdered as a show of power or berryheart taking revenge on puddleshine for tricking her and causing her to be exiled, however i was a bit disappointed to see nothing happened even tho I love puddleshine. I wanted more risks, stakes and more to worry about. Especially because fognose never gave up and was eventually exiled. She very well could have ordered cats to kill them so splashtail would be pleased with her. And lord they FUMBLED splashtails motivation and we definitely needed more. Sadly I think ivypools heart got in the way with pacing. Too bad because we very much needed ivypools heart.

Spoilers! . . . . . . . . . . . . . I LOVED YOUR MACBETH COMPARISON! I just recently read and performed in Macbeth, and had they gone that route with Splashtail, it would have been so powerful. I even would go so far as to put Curlfeather as his Lady Mac to give him the reigns for his powerlust and cruelty and then after her death having him go legitimately crazy would be INCREDIBLE. All of your ideas would have worked so much better for all of the characters if they had been done properly.

I'm sorry to all Nightheart fans but his character and chapters are waste of time. There's nothing in his chapters that couldn't be told for either Sunbeam or Frostpaw's point of views. The fact that his whole identity crisis is done so poorly doesn't help him and just confirms my point. Those chapters could've been given to any other character (even Flametail style) or our girls could've gotten more time. I would love to see more of ShadowClan through Sunbeam's eyes.
