After a hard fought battle, Duolingo Speedrun #40 has been completed. Fortunately, Catalan is a language I'm familiar with, so it wasn't the longest or hardest I've ever seen (that's what she said). It was a fun ride, and hopefully I gave the 6th romance language a bit of exposure to the world. Now there's only 1 language left to catch'em all, and it's a bit of a sneaky one. "Vestit" can be a dress or the outfit, the clothes in general, exactly. "Jo" in pronounced with the "j" sound, but, the "y" sound it's accepted. "Sentir" is to hear, "escoltar" is to listen. I think we say "blanc i negre" or "blanco y negro" because it's easier to pronounce the "b" word first, it makes it a bit more fluid. And maybe that's why it's "black and white" in English (the opposite order). Catalan comes from vulgar latin as well but it isn't derived from French, Spanish nor Italian, it actually derives from Occitan, that's why in old Catalan wr used to say "Oc" instead of "Sí" which is yes in Occitan.

Basically when you say in English that someone is dressed, or for example: well dressed, in Catalan we would say "vestit" or "ben vestit".

Maitei mba’éichapa! I’m a native Guarani speaker (raised trilingual; Guarani, Spanish and English, but I also speak French, Dutch and German) and I guessed it was Guarani as soon as I read the title lol. Despite being raised in Paraguay, Guarani isn’t as common amongst my peers because it’s sadly being lost by the urban youth due to lack of need to speak it , and because of it it’s pretty common practice in my city for schools (particularly those for upper-middle class families, but also schools with a lot of immigrants as well, particularly since a lot of Russians families have come here as refugees in recent years) to use Duolingo to try and teach kids Guarani. I remember when I was in high school they tried to implement it but the skill gap was real huge between kids like me who were raised by parents from the countryside and spoke Guarani daily and kids whose parents grew up in the city, so they just hired another teacher and separated the class into 2 learning groups. We did literature and stuff but the other learning group graduated on Duolingo.

Also, fun? fact; Guarani is the only language native to the Americas that has significantly grown since colonial times, the only one still growing and the only one that’s not considered endangered by UNESCO. It’s a yay for Guarani but a nay for all the other cultures being lost. With how my government and other people my age treat our language, I wouldn’t be surprised if Guarani follows the Irish Gaelic pipeline throughout the next century.

Spanish "mas" (no accent) is the same as portuguese, but it's not too commonly used. Usually we use "pero" to do the same job. "Más" (with accent) is indeed "mais" in portuguese
