I’ve mentioned it in a comment to you prior, but I’m on book 7, and loving it… you know an author is doing it right with a series when you keep thinking the last one you read was the best one, which has pretty much been the case for me. I do augment my physical reading with the audiobook version a tiny bit (driving, etc) but prefer to absorb material the old fashioned way. Did you listen to the audio books at all on your journey? The early books I found the Rosamund Pike audio version which was sooo well done. She immersed herself into them, which likely helped her performance in the show.

I'm 35% through Eye of the World. It's very good! I get why people like it! At this point I would say that its writing is better than Kingkiller, but I suspect it gets less love these days because it is more "trad". For a more modern fantasy recommendation, I still say A Song of Ice and Fire is the way to go, albeit with two caveats: 1) It gets very involved what with all the chars and subplots, so if you really want to try to keep everything straight, take notes, and 2) It isn't done, and likely won't ever be. Much like Kingkiller, I don't consider 2) to be a reason to not read it 😀 EDIT: Remember, a friend of mine has read ALL of WoT 3x, and plans to do a fourth read! I guarantee if you do this, you will enjoy it even more. Because the anticipation of knowing what happens means you will now find and appreciate all the details that get you there...details that you couldn't notice before.
@Thomas.R.Howell
@Thomas.R.Howell 15 сағат бұрын
Whoa HOT TAKE! that’s wild! I think the writing in Kingkiller is one of a kind and some of the best ever. This is still coming from a young lad who doesn’t have the years of reading you have. But I still stand by it. Name of the Wind shaped my taste in the language and type of storytelling I like. Then wheel of time is just so classic. The language is very historic and almost academic. It’s not as poetic as Kingkiller. I love how realistically paced WoT is. That is something I don’t think we will ever get in any modern books. I’m so excited for a reread. So much to pick up on and the preconceived knowledge going in will allow me to experience the world and story in a whole new light!
@glauer42
@glauer42 5 минут бұрын
@@Thomas.R.Howell Kingkiller is par for the course compared to a well written first person point of view story. I'd argue that John Irving novels that have this PoV are a step up, plus books like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which has fantastic imagery sections as well. Kingkiller (other than the prologues, epilogues, and interludes) is "stuck" with using Kvothe's voice, and while at times he can be "poetic" (when he's in an emotional or dramatic situation), most times I don't find that to be the case. His prose, however, is much better than Sanderson's. I think Eye of the World makes it a bit easier to play with the language since it uses a third party narrator voice, even though it's all from Rand's PoV. And so when it breaks into imagery and foreshadowing, I notice! But it's ok; we can have different thoughts on the same books! 🙂

@Thomas.R.Howell
@Thomas.R.Howell 15 сағат бұрын
@@Armstrongaj15 funny thing the slog was one of my favorite parts of the series. Except book 10. Truly felt like a synopsis would’ve done better. The slog was wonderful in my opinion. I love slower stories so when the series slowed down for a few books I really got to sit with the characters and really be with them in whatever situation they found themselves in. Made me appreciate the world and scope of things. My advice would be take a break after books 1-6? Maybe read a few non fantasy stand alone books then once you’re yearning for that return to WoT, you’ll approach books 7-10 with excitement!
