I fixed Dark Souls 3's Anti Aliasing without Reshade

Admittedly with DS3LightingEngine on the horizon at some point, this is somewhat moot, buuuut I do think there's a use in fixing the AA for the otherwise unmodded game. Maybe steamdeck users? A game like DS3 with all its gloriously detailed models having such poor aliasing treatment really was a big miss from them. Even DSR upscaling to 1440p/4k from 1080p their FXAA solution doesn't even look toggled ON.

you need to set your desktop res to your DSR res, if the game is in borderless FXAA blurry everything, so turn the game AA off. DSR 4x with 0% smoothness look so much better than this

That's because every single aspect of DS3 is a 100% intentional direct fruit of Miyazaki's transcendental vision and therefore beyond criticism. Would you like the art direction better without the endless cascade of greys and browns? You're automatically a tasteless heathen that doesn't understand DS3's "themes" and "vibes" and you WILL receive a strong worded letter about ashes and fire and entropy and curse or whatever. The shitty antialiasing is just one more way the game expresses how it is metaphysically falling apart at the seams, as it is written by Miyazaki in every redditor's dreams.

AA is why I can't stand looking at DS3 sometimes, this is awesome. Haven't played DS3 in years, would love to revisit if this becomes a thing. This is probably the main reason why BB on unstable 30fps on a PS4 looks much better than the best possible looking DS3.

You never heard or DSR from nvidia huh ? DSR 4x (0% smoothness) look so much better set your desktop res to dsr res if using borderless or use SpecialK tool to automate the switch

@@casulskrrub6423 Yeah but if your specs are decent by today's standards then you can easily run DS3 at 4k. I mean its 8 years old now. I understand if your GPU is older, but if you're rocking a GPU that cant run DS3 at 4k then here soon you're gonna have to upgrade anyway because games are getting a little too rough for a gtx 1060, or like a 1660. GPU market sucks tho Ik, I'll tell you whats kinda nice on the used market rn, the GTX 1080 ti or the Titan X pascal. Dude with the Titan you get 12 gigs of Vram and a GPU with equalish performance to a rtx 2080 for 200 bucks, the 1080ti is almost as good too for like 150. Of course no DLSS or RT, but if you're using something like a 1060, or a older lower tier GPU then they're good deals on Ebay in good condition.

@@casulskrrub6423 Even the 2080 Super you can find it for like 250ish. But that 8gb Vram limit may bite you in the butt. Still tho if you're using older hardware then Im sure you game at 1080p anyway and 8gb would be plenty for 1080p rn.

​@NielsGx Problem with it is that the HUD doesn't scale so it gets tiny... 😂 Plus, doing this at 4x DSR @ 1440P decimates performance & it looks only slightly better than DLAA / good TAA @ 1440P with a very obvious performance advantage to DLAA / good TAA.

You sir are my hero. My LITERAL biggest gripe with from games is that the AA gives me a migraine, especially Bloodborne. Now I can finally play these games in peace. And also I'm not a big fan of reshade.

The aliasing fix is called : DSR 4x (the super resolution feature of nvidia) 4K rendering on a 1080p monitor, without the game AA, looks so much better

@@The_danyoe Yeah that works for a lot of people nowadays, but you'd be surprised how many people are rocking a gtx 1060, or like a 1660 super/TI. These guys will have frame issues at 4k sadly. This is a useful mod for those people. I personally don't really mind the jaggies at 1440p, you kinda just get used to it and accept it as part of the game, I could use DLDSR cause I have a 3080, but for a game that most of us have played so many times are we really even playing it for the atmosphere anymore. Shoot I was just doing silly builds and having fun with the bosses after my first like 3 playthroughs.

I play on a 4K monitor and it’s still aliased as hell. That's not enough pixels to completely fix terrible AA implementation. And please don't tell me to play at 8K lol.

To use 4x and reach 4k which would need to be a 1080p display which is normally 24 inches, I’d say your 4k monitor is either 27 or 32 inches which would make it easier to see the jaggies. But either way 4k looks a lot better sure there’s still some jaggies but it looks a lot better than 1080p or even 1440p

while running at higher resolutions does reduce aliasing, even at 4K, I vastly prefer having edges aliased, but it'll depend on the person of course

The anti aliasing in the video is not nvidias DLAA, the game came out way before that (and doesn't have the required motion vectors). The DLAA in the text file stands for "Directionally Aligned AA, which is basically a modified version of FXAA with less blur but improved reduction of specular shimmering". I should add that this new better AA version is something else, people are suggesting some another form of fxaa/smaa

What resolution is this. I know on consoles DS3 looks absolute fucking trash because of the anti-aliasing. That version was almost unplayable to my eyes lol. On PC it was a lot cleaner with a 1440p monitor, also 60FPS helped. Probably looks real nice with this mod at 1440p+.
