I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Git, is in fact, GNU/Git, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Git. Git is not an versioning system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. It's simple to fix, you will have to commit your editor workspace settings with your code. If there's a conflict in them, you get to settle it with a trial by combat, unarmed (you can only hit each other with your legs)
