I chopped mine leaving only 2 leaf nodes at the bottom😱 Now I have 8 cuttings on the go in pots, the leader in a glass of water and I’m delighted to say that there are 2 new leaves sprouting from the original cut. Hopefully I will have a rubber tree plantation in a few months👍🏻 Thanks for the demo!

I recently did this to a very old leggy rubber plant I have. I tried to propagate the stems in water to no joy, but the two stems that I planted straight in soil rooted within two weeks. I now have loads of new growth on each stem along the various leaf nodes and it looks better than ever 😀

Hard pruning is hard not that much for the plant but for the person. Many of us, are really fearful to prune that much but it's worthy, if we have proper information.

What I do to keep my rubber trees keep growing straight up, is to keep rotating the pot every week. Plants grows towards the light, so by rotating the pot I automatically ask the plant to grow towards the other side in a natural way. This way it grows a strong stem. All my rubber trees are straight, high, have strong stems and grow faster this way. I also do this with some of my other indoor plants, but always with all my seedlings for my vegetable and fruit garden or kitchen garden if you will.

I have read in the past that you actually cannot root cuttings from a rubber tree. That you have to actually make slits, just below leaf nodes, and use some sphagnum Moss to put in the cut and close it up with Saran Wrap to root inside that, and then you can cut it off. I may try this, when i get ready to move the giant thing out, this spring!
