Dang your remake looks so much better. Part of what makes a set worth buying is the visual value. So despite the increase in pieces, the downsizing puts people off because it’s not pleasing to the eye with the price it’s listed at. So keeping the original design but bulking it up making it more accurate really sells it. 👏👏👏

It's not a price increase, you have to account for inflation. The '05 set = $65~ The '10 set = $72~ The '25 set = $70~ The 2025 set also has nearly 100 pieces more than both the past sets.

The use of the machete pieces for the cannons is certainly an interesting choice. It doesn’t look bad by any means, but I do like thicker designs for those cannons better for sure.

Those cannons are designed to shred through Star craft plating which is why they’re suppose to be bulky and everything from Lego weather it be custom or official has them like that. But just like you said seeing David use the machete piece is definitely a choice. Aesthetically it looks clean but weather they should be like this is definitely a person to person thing

The unfortunate thing is the biggest mod I want to do to this set requires me to buy 3 very specific pieces because I absolutely hate the stickers on the cockpits. I wish so badly they were actually white.

Its amazing how just 2 stud length extension on the wings made such a huge difference. Love the engine upgrade as well. Lego really dropped the ball on designing this model to begin with and I am glad to see many people fixing the design.

I think I would change 2 things: 1) The length the cannon assemblies, increasing the 8 long axel to a 10 or even 12, that way cannon muzzles will be located just forward of the nose 2) I would try to extend the red on the wing tips down to the bottom side. I think you could still maintain a two-plate thickness with some tinkering and also replace those grey bumper pieces with white and dark red, although I don't I've ever seen those in white and red...

I’m right in the process of doing this modification and making the last bricklink order. Luckily was able to find everything locally which isn’t always the easiest as a Canadian. I am making a couple small tweaks to make sure I don’t need to make more orders. First, replacing the 2x4 tech brick with a 2x2 round plate with 2 1x2 plates sandwiched by 2 2x4 tech plates. Also made a small mod to avoid using the old space engine part on the guns. I’m also not using dark red round plates near the top of the engine as they weren’t in the stores m, they only had white. I don’t think it’ll affect too much and the red on the engines is a pretty small strip in universe.

Not sure if I agree with the urakai Swords but still looks cool. I think the 2005 fluted red rings should have been used as I love that detail. Looks So Much Better than Lego's final design! I also found adding another plate or height for the astromech droid helps with the look. As well as using stack 2 1x3 plates with a 1x3 tile (in white) to hide the green TECHNIC mechanism parts used for opening the wings -- exposed from a lower angle side-on.

14:57 instead of those pin‐axle pieces I would use just a 3 long black or grey axle 12:20 that red brick with axle holes I would replace with either two 2x4 plates with holes, one rounded 2x2 plate with axle hole and two 1x2 plates or one 2x4 plate with holes, two 2x2 rounded plates 2ith axle hole and four 1x2 plates

I bought the set as well and I too did my own modifications. I only did the cannons cause those were my biggest gripe with the original set but even just redoing the cannons makes the whole thing look way better

No joke I thought the wings definitely needed to be extended and I would extend it myself if I had the set and pieces but your version is 100% a massive improvement. As usual Lego has taken the cheaper route for this set by "downsizing" which I don't agree is needed. Your version is much much better

I would also like to say you all can add one plate higher to the body for the copilot and gunner area. The pilots leaning so far back always bug me, so adding just one plate and removing the slants by the arm rest help sit the pilots upright.

Even though the new arc170 is smaller but I think it’s well built. Only thing turns me off is the amount of stickers. Otherwise I would keep it as it is. Maybe adding few control panel in the cockpits. Maybe we can call it ARC-160 or ARC-150 as it is smaller

I think the lore accurate cannon tips is dark brown, I’m pretty sure LEGO doesn’t make that sword in dark brown so pearl dark grey is probably the closest you could do.

The swords on the cannons are interesting but I think I'll be sticking to a more basic design. The conical ends on the canons of the real ship are unique but trying to replicate them at minifig scale does more harm than good I think.
