I fixed the low level washer fluid light issue. It was EASY.

This will probably work on most Subaru Vehicles and maybe others. My original plan was to remove the float piece from the sensor to eliminate the "low fluid" notification, but this was way easier. This is a 2017 Subaru Forester XT, and this should work from the 2014 - 2018 standard and XT models.

Fix for washer fluid sensor

I have a 2017 Forester, the light has been on for a year and just annoying. The dealer wanted $500 and the cheapest I was able to find was about $220. (on the Forester you have to buy the entire reservoir, not just the sensor. Off market reservoir is about $65 but not worth the hustle of relacing it, imo) I don't really need that indicator and I didn't wanna spend all that money. This worked! Thank you very much!

Sad part is you cannot get that sensor out it’s built into the container. When you container with the sense of built into it is about 100 bucks.

mine is a WRX STI 2018, i (and many car owers) have the same problem and was told only 2 solutions. 1 is to pull the connector (stronly recommanded by everybody even Subaru sales) 2 is to change the whole washer tank (including the sensor), later is not recommanded because the sendor is a garbage.

My 2019 WRX has this issue right now. I kept topping the resovoir to no avail. I will most likely do the same fix since I don't plan on keeping this car. I need to get rid of all little things before I trade it in.

This same thing happened to me with my 2020 wrx. Indicator came on, i filled the reservoir. Indicator did not turn off. At least not right away. About a week later it was off. So, give it a little time to reset itself before you start worrying lol

Yeah mine wasn’t resetting. What happens is the float sensor no longer floats to show full. So you either replace the unit or unplug it. Thanks for sharing this though because maybe some of you do need to give it a sec to reset

@@rywanders it literally took a week, i had started looking into a new sensor and other options. But to my surprise, it finally reset and all is good. I will just periodically fill the reservoir to avoid the low sensor

Mine's been giving a warning off and on, so i filled it up and still says low. So yeah, it's not mission critical, just gonna unplug it and put an inop. sticker on it.

I'm guessing you can probably just pull the fuse, rather than going under to disconnect it, if you want the light to be off. I'm probably gonna give that a try myself, cuz mine's been on since I bought mine as well. It's annoying and I could care less about being warned that it's low..

Apparently you can't just buy the sensor. You need to buy the entire fluid container with the sensor.

Yeah I looked that up afterwards and it appears that’s true. Screw that just unplug it lol. I’m sure Subaru will rip you $600 to put one in. Should be a recall with how common it is.

You’ll need a new sensor from where I unplugged it if you want it to work. If you break it getting it out you’ll need a whole new assembly $$ I’m not sure they sell just the sensor.

as per the service manual you'll need to replace the washer tank to fix a bad sensor. there is no reset. it's an integrated part in the tank. about $65. there also might be gunk built up on the sensor and it may need cleaning.

It's more difficult than I thought it was going to be. First, don't think you'll be able to remove just 1 or even 2 of the screws holding the shroud on, you have almost zero room to get your hand(s) in there to remove the sensor connector. Your going to need as much room as you can get to get your hand in there and remove that connector. Update: 4-6-2024: Just snipped one of the wires. The hell with removing the connector, there is just no space in there to get even one hand to pinch the connector

@@rywanders It's not your fault! It most just having the room in there. The senor is almost in a "channel" with very little room but just sniped one wire and all is good. I'm just glad that darn light is off! I'm like you, don't like those things on all the time

I unplugged mine and the light is still on, I have a 2020 outlander sport. It’s rough getting under there , I can’t actually see what you’re unplugging! Is it the piece on the bottom with a wire coming out , I’m thinking that will drain all the washer fluid out
